    <p rend="indent0" xml:id="par1"><hi rend="large">May it please your <choice><abbr>Lord<hi rend="overline">ps</hi></abbr><expan>Lordships</expan></choice></hi> <space dim="vertical" unit="lines" extent="2"/></p>
    
    <p xml:id="par2">In obedience to your <choice><abbr>Lord<hi rend="overline">ps</hi></abbr><expan>Lordships</expan></choice> commands <lb xml:id="l1"/>that I should attend at the office of his <choice><abbr>Ma<hi rend="superscript">ts</hi>.</abbr><expan>Majestys</expan></choice> Mint <lb xml:id="l2"/>within the Tower of London to see the opening of <lb xml:id="l3"/>the Pix kept for the Coynage of Copper halfpence <lb xml:id="l4"/>and farthings. <space dim="horizontal" unit="chars" extent="2"/>I went this day and saw the <lb xml:id="l5"/>Box opened, and several parcells weighed, and <lb xml:id="l6"/>found 23 pence to be full one pound weight.</p>
    
    <p xml:id="par3">I then went with Sir Isaac Newton &amp; others <lb xml:id="l7"/>into the assay office, where six  <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">of the</add> old half pence, <lb xml:id="l8"/>which were made by the former Contractors, <lb xml:id="l9"/>were put into the fire, and then tryed with a <lb xml:id="l10"/>hammer, whether they would bear beating out <lb xml:id="l11"/>but they all flew and broke in pieces.</p>
    
    <p xml:id="par4">Then six of those lately made by Sir <lb xml:id="l12"/>Isaac Newton, which have been passed in <lb xml:id="l13"/>payments abroad, were tryed, and they all bore <lb xml:id="l14"/>the Hammer when red hot without breaking <lb xml:id="l15"/>or Cracking.</p>
    
    <p xml:id="par5">Lastly Wee took out a considerable <lb xml:id="l16"/>quantity of the halfpence and farthings that <lb xml:id="l17"/>were in the Pix, and after heating them red <lb xml:id="l18"/>hot they were beaten out with a Hammer <lb xml:id="l19"/>without Breaking or Cracking.</p>
