                <p xml:id="par1">The Act of Parliament Anno 2 &amp; 3 Annæ Reginæ, entituled An Act for <lb xml:id="l1"/>granting to her Majesty an additional <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">Duty</add> of Tunnage &amp; <del type="over">p</del><add place="over" indicator="no">P</add>oundage &amp;c ordeins <lb xml:id="l2"/>that the value of East India Goods <del type="strikethrough">(except Coffee)</del> according to <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> the <lb xml:id="l3"/>Duties are to be paid (except Coffee) <del type="strikethrough">that is the <del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">c</add>leare value to be taxed</del> <lb xml:id="l4"/>shall be recconed according to the gross <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">Price</add> at <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> such goods shall be sold, making <lb xml:id="l5"/>the following allowances or abatements out of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> same, viz<hi rend="superscript">t</hi> out of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l6"/>values of the said Goods ascertained <del type="over">&amp;</del><add place="over" indicator="no">b</add>y the Price at the Candle there shall <lb xml:id="l7"/>be a deduction &amp; allowance made of so much a<del type="over">t</del><add place="over" indicator="no">s</add> the Net Du<del type="over">d</del><add place="over" indicator="no">t</add>ies payable to her <lb xml:id="l8"/><choice><abbr>Ma<hi rend="superscript">ty</hi></abbr><expan>Majesty</expan></choice> for the same goods do amount unto, &amp; so much as the respective <lb xml:id="l9"/>Companies or Traders shall bona fi<del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">d</add>e allow for prompt payment to the <lb xml:id="l10"/>persons who at such sales shall b<del type="over">y</del><add place="over" indicator="no">u</add>y the said <del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">G</add>oods at Time &amp; also <lb xml:id="l11"/>six per cent upon the gross price by the candle for the charges of the <lb xml:id="l12"/><add place="lineBeginning" indicator="no"><choice><abbr>s<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>said</expan></choice></add> Companies &amp; Traders <del type="strikethrough"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del> in keeping the said goods till the time of sale. The Merchant is not to be taxed for <lb xml:id="l16"/>these <del type="cancelled">Quæ</del> three deductions because they are not his money but his debts <lb xml:id="l17"/><add place="supralinear lineBeginning" indicator="yes">charges</add> &amp; abatements <del type="cancelled">out of</del><del type="strikethrough"> <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> he pays or makes to the Queen &amp; others out of</del><add place="supralinear" indicator="no"><del type="strikethrough">to others</del> taken</add> out of the Gross price.                 <p xml:id="par3"><del type="cancelled">This</del> In <del type="cancelled">a</del> <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">a <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">small</add> Treatise printed at Paris 1<del type="over">5</del><add place="over" indicator="no">6</add>89 &amp; entituled <choice><orig>A</orig><reg>a</reg></choice>n<del type="cancelled">d</del> historical</add> dissertation upon some coins of Charles the great Ludo<lb type="hyphenated" xml:id="l20"/>vicus Pius, Lotharius &amp; their successors stamped at Rome there is a <del type="strikethrough">cut</del><add place="supralinear" indicator="no">draught</add> <lb xml:id="l21"/>of a <del type="strikethrough">Mosaic</del> piece of <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">Mosaic</add> work <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> Leo the III caused to be made in <lb xml:id="l22"/>his Palace neare the Church of <choice><orig>I</orig><reg>J</reg></choice>ohn Lateran in memory of his sending <lb xml:id="l23"/>the standard of the city of Rome to Charles <del type="over">I</del><add place="over" indicator="no">t</add>he great, &amp; <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> remained <lb xml:id="l24"/>there till the publishing of the said <del type="over">t</del><add place="over" indicator="no">T</add>reatise &amp; may still be there. <del type="cancelled">It</del> <lb xml:id="l25"/>In this <del type="strikethrough">piece of</del><add place="supralinear" indicator="no">mosaic</add> work there appears Peter <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> three keys lying in his lap <lb xml:id="l26"/>&amp; <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes"><del type="strikethrough">with his right hand</del></add> riching the Pallium to the Pope<del type="cancelled">, &amp;</del> <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> his right hand &amp; the Banner of <lb xml:id="l27"/>the city to <del type="strikethrough"><choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Emperor</del> <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">Charles <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> great</add> <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> his left. By the Pope is this inscription <lb xml:id="l28"/><del type="strikethrough">&amp; by the Emperor this</del> <foreign xml:lang="lat">SCSSIMVS D. M. <del type="cancelled">Leo</del> LEO PP</foreign>; by the King this <lb xml:id="l29"/><foreign xml:lang="lat">D. N. CARVLO REGI</foreign>: &amp; under the feet of Peter this, <foreign xml:lang="lat">BEATE PETRE <lb xml:id="l30"/>dona vitam Leoni PP, ET BICTORIAM CAROLO REGI DONA</foreign>. <lb xml:id="l31"/>By the inscriptions it appears that this piece of Mosaic work was <lb xml:id="l32"/>made before Charles was Emperor <del type="strikethrough"><del type="cancelled">supp</del> &amp; by consequence upon th</del> <lb xml:id="l33"/>suppose in the year 796 or 797<add place="inline" indicator="no">.</add> <del type="strikethrough">when the Banner was f<gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/>r &amp; <del type="cancelled">by</del></del> The <lb xml:id="l34"/>three keys in the lap of Peter signify the keys of <del type="strikethrough">his Patrimony</del> the <lb xml:id="l35"/><choice><sic>thre</sic><corr>three</corr></choice> parts of his patrimony, <del type="cancelled"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del> viz Rome <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> its Dutchy, Ravenna <lb xml:id="l36"/><choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> the Exarchate &amp; the <del type="cancelled"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="5"/></del> territor<del type="over">ie</del><add place="over" indicator="no">y</add><del type="cancelled">s</del> taken from <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Lombards. <lb xml:id="l37"/>These were the three dominions whose keys were in <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> lap of Peter &amp; <lb xml:id="l38"/>whose crowns are still worn by the Pope.</p>
