    <p xml:id="par2">The french <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">are poor &amp;</add> work cheaper then the English &amp; therefore will <lb xml:id="l1"/>not buy much of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> English manufactures where they can have a <lb xml:id="l2"/>good of their own. But the English will <choice><sic>by</sic><corr>buy</corr></choice> much of the French ma<lb type="hyphenated" xml:id="l3"/>nufactures because of their cheapness &amp; must pay the ballance <del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="2"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">of</add> trade <lb xml:id="l4"/>in money. The case is much the same as that of <choice><abbr>o<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>our</expan></choice> trade <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> India <lb xml:id="l5"/>whose manufactures by reason of their ch<add place="inline" indicator="no">e</add>apness carry away our silver <lb xml:id="l6"/>&amp; hinder the consumption of <choice><abbr>o<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>our</expan></choice> own manufactures. <space dim="vertical" unit="lines" extent="2"/></p>
    
    <p xml:id="par3">We can have no bullion but from the West Indies belonging <lb xml:id="l7"/>to Spain &amp; Portugal. The question is whether <del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">w</add>e shall trade <lb xml:id="l8"/>with those nations immediately for bullion, or by the mediation of <lb xml:id="l9"/>France. <space dim="vertical" unit="lines" extent="3"/></p>
    
    <p xml:id="par4">In the reign of <choice><abbr>K.</abbr><expan>King</expan></choice> Cha I, while England furnished the Spaniards in <lb xml:id="l10"/>their warrs in Flanders the c<del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">o</add>inage was very great amounting to <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">about</add> 8 millions <lb xml:id="l11"/>In the twelve years between <del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">th</add>e death of <choice><abbr>K.</abbr><expan>King</expan></choice> Cha: I &amp; the return of <choice><abbr>K.</abbr><expan>King</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l12"/>Cha: II the cross &amp; Harp money amounted not to more then <del type="over"><unclear reason="del" cert="low">6</unclear></del><add place="over" indicator="no">8</add>00,000<hi rend="superscript">li</hi> <lb xml:id="l13"/><choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> is less then 70,000<hi rend="superscript">li</hi> <choice><abbr>p<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>per</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>a<hi rend="overline">n</hi></abbr><expan>annum</expan></choice> at a medium. Then by <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> French war it fell to <del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">2</add>00,000<hi rend="superscript">li</hi> <lb xml:id="l16"/>per <choice><abbr>a<hi rend="overline">n</hi></abbr><expan>annum</expan></choice> in gold at a medium. In <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> four years between <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> first <lb xml:id="l17"/>&amp; second French wars it amounted to 450,000<hi rend="superscript">li</hi> <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">per <choice><abbr>a<hi rend="overline">n</hi></abbr><expan>annum</expan></choice></add> at a medium. In <lb xml:id="l18"/>the first s<del type="over">e</del><add place="over" indicator="no">i</add>x years of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> 2<hi rend="superscript">d</hi> French war by the want of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Spanish <lb xml:id="l19"/>trade it fell to about 24,000<hi rend="superscript">li</hi> <choice><abbr>p<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>per</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>a<hi rend="overline">n</hi></abbr><expan>annum</expan></choice>, &amp; afterwards by the Portugal &amp; <lb xml:id="l20"/>Iamaica trade increased so as at p<choice><orig><hi rend="superscript">r</hi></orig><reg>re</reg></choice>sent to be abo<del type="over">ve</del><add place="over" indicator="no">ut</add> <del type="over">2</del><add place="over" indicator="no">3</add>00,000 <choice><abbr>p<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>per</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l21"/><choice><abbr>a<hi rend="overline">n</hi></abbr><expan>annum</expan></choice>, &amp; therefore is as good as ever, &amp; by the addition of the <lb xml:id="l22"/>Spanish trade will be better then ever if the French trade do not <lb xml:id="l23"/>abate it. <space dim="vertical" unit="lines" extent="2"/></p>
    
    <p xml:id="par5">The French manufactures of Linnen &amp; Silk have formerly <lb xml:id="l24"/>amounted to above 800,000<hi rend="superscript">li</hi> <choice><abbr>p<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>per</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>a<hi rend="overline">n</hi></abbr><expan>annum</expan></choice>, their <del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">w</add>ines &amp; Brandies to above <lb xml:id="l25"/>200,000<hi rend="superscript"><hi rend="overline">li</hi></hi> <del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="4"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">their</add> <del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="5"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">other</add> <del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="6"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">commod</add>ities to above 100,000<hi rend="superscript"><hi rend="overline">li</hi></hi>. Where <lb xml:id="l26"/>shall we have manufactures &amp; other commodities to ballance <lb xml:id="l27"/>this trade, over &amp; above what will be necessary to carry on <choice><abbr>o<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>our</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l28"/>trade <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> P<del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">o</add>rtugal Spain &amp; the West Indies for Bullion. <space dim="vertical" unit="lines" extent="2"/></p>
    
    <p xml:id="par6">What need is there of a trade between England &amp; France for <lb xml:id="l29"/>manufactures of Silk &amp; wo<add place="supralinear" indicator="no">o</add>llen. Abate this trade &amp; the rest will not <lb xml:id="l30"/>must hurt us.</p>
