<p rend="indent0" xml:id="par2">I received sometime since a letter from you with an inclosed paper <lb xml:id="l1"/>containing several Quæres relating to <del type="strikethrough">your Mint &amp; the charges <lb xml:id="l2"/>of making up the <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes"><del type="strikethrough">late</del></add> Coynage &amp; <choice><unclear reason="del">another</unclear><unclear reason="del"><gap reason="del" unit="chars" extent="1"/> make</unclear></choice> way of</del><add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">the buisines of your Mint.</add> I have been slow to <lb xml:id="l3"/>return an answer for fear that some of those things may be referred <lb xml:id="l4"/>to the officers of <choice><abbr>o<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>our</expan></choice> Mint with whom I find it sometimes difficult to agree <lb xml:id="l5"/>&amp; therefore what I now write to you <del type="cancelled"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del> is to be looked upon <del type="strikethrough">not</del> as <lb xml:id="l6"/>coming <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">not</add> from an Officer of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Mint but from a private friend.</p>
    
<p xml:id="par3">I am of opinion that the Officers of <choice><abbr>yo<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>your</expan></choice> Mint should<del type="cancelled"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del> sollicit <lb xml:id="l7"/>the Barons of the <choice><abbr>Excheq<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>Exchequer</expan></choice> to get the Bullion in the hands of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l8"/><del type="strikethrough">Barons of the Exchequer</del> Executors of M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Stewar<unclear reason="hand"><del type="over"><unclear reason="over">d</unclear></del><add place="over" indicator="no">t</add></unclear> &amp; the under <lb xml:id="l9"/>collectors to be <del type="cancelled"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del>paid into <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Mint with all convenient speed &amp; <lb xml:id="l10"/>that as it comes in you <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">should</add> pay it in <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">due</add> course <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">&amp; order <del type="strikethrough">as it became due</del></add> discharging those debts <lb xml:id="l11"/>first <del type="strikethrough">to whome it became first due. <del type="cancelled"><unclear reason="del" cert="low">&amp;</unclear></del></del> which were first owing <lb xml:id="l12"/>And when you have cleared all debts <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">&amp; accounts</add> to any certain time <del type="strikethrough">you</del>(suppo<supplied reason="copy">se</supplied> <lb xml:id="l13"/>to <del type="strikethrough">Christmas or</del><add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">Christmas or</add> Lad<unclear reason="hand"><del type="over"><gap reason="over" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">y</add></unclear> was a twelvemonth or Midsummer last, <del type="strikethrough">you <lb xml:id="l14"/>may then</del> or <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">to</add> any later time,) you may then make up <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">&amp; pass</add> <choice><abbr>yo<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>your</expan></choice> accounts <lb xml:id="l15"/>to th<unclear reason="hand"><del type="over"><unclear reason="over" cert="low">e</unclear></del><add place="over" indicator="no">at</add></unclear> time <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">if you think fit,</add> &amp; afterwards <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">you may</add> pass your accounts annually according <lb xml:id="l16"/>to the <del type="cancelled"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="2"/></del> course of the Mint in the Tower <del type="strikethrough">expressed in the Indentur<supplied reason="copy">e</supplied> <lb xml:id="l17"/>of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Mint</del> taking care to clear all the acc<del type="over"><gap reason="over" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">o</add>unts of every year <lb xml:id="l18"/>before you make oath to them &amp; pass them, because by passing them <lb xml:id="l19"/>you are d<unclear reason="hand"><del type="over"><gap reason="over" unit="chars" extent="2"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">is</add></unclear>charged of all accounts till that time.</p>
    
<p xml:id="par4">As for the Moneyers, <del type="over"><gap reason="over" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">I</add><del type="cancelled"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del> am of opi<unclear reason="hand"><del type="over"><gap reason="over" unit="chars" extent="2"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">ni</add></unclear>on that the nine pence <lb xml:id="l20"/>per pound weight <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">should</add> be paid them in course as money comes into <choice><abbr>yo<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>your</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l21"/>hands &amp; that in your accounts the penny per pound weight above <lb xml:id="l22"/>the 8<hi rend="superscript">d</hi> be set down in your accounts, &amp; if the <del type="cancelled"><unclear reason="del" cert="medium">Ba</unclear></del> Auditor or <lb xml:id="l23"/>Barons of the Exchequer scruple it, you may petition my Lord <choice><abbr>Tre<hi rend="overline">ar</hi></abbr><expan>Treasurer</expan></choice>. <lb xml:id="l24"/><del type="strikethrough">to have <unclear reason="del" cert="low">it</unclear></del><unclear reason="hand" cert="low"><del type="cancelled">T</del></unclear> What <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">else</add> is due to the Moneyers on account of your coyn<lb xml:id="l25"/>age <del type="cancelled"><unclear reason="del" cert="low">as</unclear></del> they must petition my Lord Treasurer to be allowed. I <lb xml:id="l26"/>beleive my Lord will scarce pay any thing <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">to them</add> at London, b<del type="over">ut</del><add place="over" indicator="no">ec</add>ause <del type="cancelled">it</del> <lb xml:id="l27"/><del type="strikethrough"><unclear reason="del" cert="low">was</unclear> proper<choice><unclear reason="hand" cert="high">l</unclear><unclear reason="hand" cert="low">t</unclear></choice>y belongs to your account</del> what is due to them can scarce <lb xml:id="l28"/>come into any other account then <choice><abbr>yo<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>your</expan></choice>s</p>
    
<p xml:id="par5">The Pix &amp; Assay pieces you are to <del type="strikethrough">receive &amp;</del> have &amp; place <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">m</hi></abbr><expan>them</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l29"/>in your account as so much money received, &amp; to bring in a bill <lb xml:id="l30"/>of the loss of Assays. The Bill must be examined allowed &amp; <lb xml:id="l31"/>signed by the Warden &amp; Counter-Warden.</p>
    
<p xml:id="par6">You should also according to the best of your <del type="strikethrough">judgment</del><add place="supralinear" indicator="no">memory</add> &amp; <lb xml:id="l32"/>knowledge bring in <del type="over">a</del><add place="over" indicator="yes">one or more</add> Bills of charges for the Miln horses &amp; their <lb xml:id="l33"/>maintenance &amp; servants, &amp; for furnishing Rollers, upholding the files <lb xml:id="l34"/>cutters &amp; tumblers, <del type="strikethrough">or th</del> &amp; fire candles &amp; allome &amp; other necessaries for <lb xml:id="l35"/>the moneyers. And this bill <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">also</add> should be examined &amp; signed by the Warden <lb xml:id="l36"/>&amp; Counter Warden. And so should all the Bills of <del type="cancelled">B<unclear reason="del" cert="medium">r</unclear></del> Carpenters Brick laye<supplied reason="copy">rs</supplied> <lb xml:id="l37"/><del type="strikethrough">stone</del> Masons Pairers Glasiers Smiths <del type="cancelled"><unclear reason="del" cert="low">&amp;c</unclear></del><add place="supralinear" indicator="no"><del type="strikethrough"><unclear reason="del" cert="low">Plaisters</unclear></del></add> Plaisterers &amp;c</p>
    
<p xml:id="par7">I pay to <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Smith of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Mint a farthing per pound weight <del type="cancelled"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="2"/></del> <lb xml:id="l38"/>of all the <del type="strikethrough"><unclear reason="del" cert="low">mo</unclear></del> silver moneys coyned, for his making the Dyes, &amp; wheth<supplied reason="copy">er</supplied> <lb xml:id="l39"/>the like allowance should be made by you towards <unclear reason="hand"><del type="over"><gap reason="over" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">d</add></unclear>efraying the incident <lb xml:id="l40"/>charges of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> coynage I <del type="strikethrough">leave <unclear reason="del" cert="low">to</unclear></del><add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">must</add> leave to <del type="strikethrough">be</del> consider<del type="over">ed</del><add place="over" indicator="no">ation</add></p>
