    <p rend="indent0" xml:id="par1"><hi rend="largest"><hi rend="bold"><hi rend="underline">This Indenture</hi></hi></hi> made <lb xml:id="l1"/>the <space dim="horizontal" unit="chars" extent="15"/> day of <space dim="horizontal" unit="chars" extent="10"/> in the ninth <lb xml:id="l2"/>year of the reign of our Sovereign Lady Anne by the <lb xml:id="l3"/>Grace of God of Great Brittain France and Ireland <lb xml:id="l4"/>Queen Defender of the Faith <choice><orig>+<hi rend="overline">c</hi></orig><reg>&amp;c</reg></choice> And in the year of our Lord <lb xml:id="l5"/>1710 <hi rend="larger"><hi rend="bold">Between</hi></hi> our said Sovereign Lady the Queens <lb xml:id="l6"/>most Excellent Majesty of the one part + <choice><orig>I</orig><reg>J</reg></choice>ohn Montgom<add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">e</add>rie <lb xml:id="l7"/>of G<del type="cancelled"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del>iffan Esquire of the other part <hi rend="larger"><hi rend="bold">Witnesseth</hi></hi> that <lb xml:id="l8"/>whereas our said Sovereign Lady the Queen by her Letters <lb xml:id="l9"/>Patents under the Great Seale appointed by the Treaty <lb xml:id="l10"/>of Vnion to be kept in Scotland bearing date the twenty <lb xml:id="l11"/>second day of Iune 1710 for the considerations therein <lb xml:id="l12"/>mentioned <hi rend="large">Did</hi> give and grant unto the said <choice><orig>I</orig><reg>J</reg></choice>ohn <lb xml:id="l13"/>Montgom<add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">e</add>rie the Office of Master and Worker of all her <lb xml:id="l14"/><choice><abbr>Ma<hi rend="superscript">ties</hi>.</abbr><expan>Majesties</expan></choice> moneys both of Gold and Silver within her <choice><abbr>Ma<hi rend="superscript">ties</hi>.</abbr><expan>Majesties</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l15"/>Mint at Edingburgh in the room and place of George <lb xml:id="l16"/>Allardes Esquire deceased <hi rend="larger"><hi rend="bold">To hold</hi></hi> the said Office for <lb xml:id="l17"/>and during her <choice><abbr>Ma<hi rend="superscript">ties</hi>.</abbr><expan>Majesties</expan></choice> pleasure, with all wages fees salaries <lb xml:id="l18"/>allowances proffitts perquisites powers priviledges and <lb xml:id="l19"/>advantages whatsoever thereunto belonging, and in as <lb xml:id="l20"/>ample manner as the said George Allardes or any other <lb xml:id="l21"/>heretofore held and enjoyed the same.</p>
    
    <p rend="indent0" xml:id="par2"><hi rend="larger"><hi rend="bold">And whereas</hi></hi> by the Act of Vnion it is provided <lb xml:id="l22"/>that the mint in Scotland shall be under the same Rules <lb xml:id="l23"/>as the Mint in England And for that end it is necessary <lb xml:id="l24"/>that an Indenture be made and executed on his part <lb xml:id="l25"/>for and concerning the making of the several sorts of <lb xml:id="l26"/>money of Gold and Silver and for payment of the several <lb xml:id="l27"/>Officers of the Mint and for other matters and things <lb xml:id="l28"/>relating thereto and to the execution of the said Office <lb xml:id="l29"/>as are hereinafter mentioned with alterations and <lb xml:id="l30"/>additions if any shall be thought fitt and directed by her <lb xml:id="l31"/>Majesty for the better management and carrying on <lb xml:id="l32"/>of that service.</p>

    <p rend="indent0" xml:id="par3"><hi rend="larger"><hi rend="bold">Now this Indenture witnesseth</hi></hi> <lb xml:id="l33"/>that for and in consideration of the <choice><abbr>Coven<hi rend="superscript">ts</hi>.</abbr><expan>Covenants</expan></choice> + <choice><abbr>agreem<hi rend="superscript">ts</hi>.</abbr><expan>agreements</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l34"/>hereinafter contained on the part of the <choice><abbr>s<hi rend="superscript">d</hi>.</abbr><expan>said</expan></choice> <choice><orig>I</orig><reg>J</reg></choice>ohn Montgom<add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">e</add>rie <lb xml:id="l35"/>Our said Sovereign Lady the Queen of her especial grace <lb xml:id="l36"/>certain knowledge and meer motion <hi rend="large">Hath</hi> given granted <lb xml:id="l37"/>ratified and confirmed, and doth by these presents give <lb xml:id="l38"/>grant ratifie and confirm unto the <choice><abbr>s<hi rend="superscript">d</hi>.</abbr><expan>said</expan></choice> <choice><orig>I</orig><reg>J</reg></choice>ohn Montgom<choice><orig/><reg>e</reg></choice>rie <lb xml:id="l39"/>the said Office of Master and Worker of all her <choice><abbr>Ma<hi rend="superscript">ties</hi>.</abbr><expan>Majesties</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l40"/>moneys both of Gold and Silver within her <choice><abbr>Ma<hi rend="superscript">ties</hi>.</abbr><expan>Majesties</expan></choice> Mint <lb xml:id="l41"/>in the city of Edinburgh and elsewhere in that part of her <lb xml:id="l42"/><choice><abbr>Ma<hi rend="superscript">ties</hi>.</abbr><expan>Majesties</expan></choice> said Kingdome of Great Brittain called Scotland <lb xml:id="l43"/>together with the Fee or yearly <choice><sic>pention</sic><corr>pension</corr></choice> of <space dim="horizontal" unit="chars" extent="15"/> <lb xml:id="l44"/>sterling to be paid by quarterly payments at four Terms <lb xml:id="l45"/>in the year Candlemas Whitsonday Lammas + Martinmas <lb xml:id="l46"/>yearly by even and equal portions out of such moneys as <lb xml:id="l47"/>(in and by an Act of Parliament made in England in the <lb xml:id="l48"/>eighteenth year of the Reign of his late <choice><abbr>Ma<hi rend="superscript">tie</hi>.</abbr><expan>Majestie</expan></choice> King <lb xml:id="l49"/>Charles the second and continued by another Act made in <lb xml:id="l50"/>the twenty fifth year of his <choice><abbr>s<hi rend="superscript">d</hi>.</abbr><expan>said</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>Ma<hi rend="superscript">ties</hi>.</abbr><expan>Majesties</expan></choice> reign. Both which <lb xml:id="l51"/>were revived and continued by an Act made in the first <lb xml:id="l52"/>year of his late <choice><abbr>Ma<hi rend="superscript">tie</hi>.</abbr><expan>Majestie</expan></choice> King <choice><orig>I</orig><reg>J</reg></choice>ames the seconds reigne <lb xml:id="l53"/>and again by another Act made in the fourth year of his <lb xml:id="l54"/>late <choice><abbr>Ma<hi rend="superscript">tie</hi>.</abbr><expan>Majestie</expan></choice> King William and the late Queen Mary, and <lb xml:id="l55"/>after by an Act made in the twelfth year of the reign of the <lb xml:id="l56"/>said late King William, and further continued by an Act <lb xml:id="l57"/>made in the seventh year of her present <choice><abbr>Ma<hi rend="superscript">tie</hi>.</abbr><expan>Majestie</expan></choice> Queen Anne <lb xml:id="l58"/>intituled an Act for continuing the former Acts for <choice><abbr>incouragem<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>incouragement</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l59"/>of the Coinage <choice><orig>+<hi rend="overline">c</hi></orig><reg>&amp;c</reg></choice> and for making provision for the Mints <lb xml:id="l60"/>in Scotland) are allowed to be issued yearly out of her said <lb xml:id="l61"/><choice><abbr>Ma<hi rend="superscript">ties</hi>.</abbr><expan>Majesties</expan></choice> Exchequer for the Fees or salaries of the Officers <lb xml:id="l62"/>of the Mint or Mints, and towards the providing maintaining <lb xml:id="l63"/>and repairing of the Houses Offices and Buildings and <lb xml:id="l64"/>other necessaries for assaying melting down and coining <lb xml:id="l65"/>during so long time as the <choice><abbr>s<hi rend="superscript">d</hi>.</abbr><expan>said</expan></choice> Acts of <choice><abbr>Parliam<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>Parliament</expan></choice> shall bee + continue <lb xml:id="l66"/>in force.</p>

    <p rend="indent0" xml:id="par4"><hi rend="larger"><hi rend="bold">And</hi></hi> after the said Acts of <choice><abbr>Parliam<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>Parliament</expan></choice> shall cease and <lb xml:id="l67"/>be void, then the said Fee or yearly <choice><sic>pention</sic><corr>pension</corr></choice> to be paid out <lb xml:id="l68"/>of such other moneys + in such other manner as <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">shall</add> by any <lb xml:id="l69"/>Act or Acts of Parliament hereafter to be made <del type="cancelled">to</del> be <choice><abbr>app<hi rend="superscript">d</hi>.</abbr><expan>applied</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l70"/>or allowed to be issued out for the Fees or salaries of the <lb xml:id="l71"/>officers of the Mint or Mints, and in default of any such <lb xml:id="l72"/>allowance or <choice><abbr>appointm<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>appointment</expan></choice> to be hereafter made by <choice><abbr>Parliam<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Parliament</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l73"/>and during such time or times as there shall hereafter <lb xml:id="l74"/>happen to be no such allowance or <choice><abbr>appointm<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>appointment</expan></choice> made by <lb xml:id="l75"/>authority of Parliament, the said Fee or yearly <choice><sic>pention</sic><corr>pension</corr></choice> <lb xml:id="l76"/>of <space dim="horizontal" unit="chars" extent="15"/> sterling to be paid unto the said <choice><orig>I</orig><reg>J</reg></choice>ohn <lb xml:id="l77"/>Montgom<choice><orig/><reg>e</reg></choice>rie out of her <choice><abbr>Ma<hi rend="superscript">ties</hi>.</abbr><expan>Majesties</expan></choice> allowance for Coinage of <lb xml:id="l78"/>gold or silver moneys or other her <choice><abbr>Ma<hi rend="superscript">ties</hi>.</abbr><expan>Majesties</expan></choice> proffitts of the <lb xml:id="l79"/>Mint or Mints or such other part of her <choice><abbr>Ma<hi rend="superscript">ties</hi>.</abbr><expan>Majesties</expan></choice> Revenue <lb xml:id="l80"/>as her <choice><abbr>Ma<hi rend="superscript">tie</hi>.</abbr><expan>Majestie</expan></choice> shall direct.</p>
    
    <p rend="indent0" xml:id="par5"><hi rend="larger"><hi rend="bold">And</hi></hi> our Sovereign Lady the Queen for <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>consid<hi rend="superscript">r</hi>a<hi rend="overline">co</hi>ns</abbr><expan>considerations</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l81"/>afore<choice><abbr>s<hi rend="superscript">d</hi>.</abbr><expan>said</expan></choice> <hi rend="large">hath</hi> also given granted and confirmed, and <lb xml:id="l82"/>by these presents doth give grant and confirm unto the <lb xml:id="l83"/>said <choice><orig>I</orig><reg>J</reg></choice>ohn Montgom<choice><orig/><reg>e</reg></choice>rie all Edifices Buildings gardens <lb xml:id="l84"/>and other proffitts priviledges Franchises + immunities <lb xml:id="l85"/>belonging to the afore<choice><abbr>s<hi rend="superscript">d</hi>.</abbr><expan>said</expan></choice> Office <hi rend="large">To have hold</hi> and enjoy <lb xml:id="l86"/>the said Office of Master and Worker unto the <choice><abbr>s<hi rend="superscript">d</hi>.</abbr><expan>said</expan></choice> <choice><orig>I</orig><reg>J</reg></choice>ohn <lb xml:id="l87"/>Montgom<choice><orig/><reg>e</reg></choice>rie, and to exercise the same by himself or <lb xml:id="l88"/>his sufficient Deputy or Deputies for whom he will <lb xml:id="l89"/>answer, And also to hold and enjoy the said Fee or yearly <lb xml:id="l90"/><choice><sic>pention</sic><corr>pension</corr></choice> or sume of <space dim="horizontal" unit="chars" extent="20"/> sterling together <lb xml:id="l91"/>with the said Houses Edifices buildings gardens profitts <lb xml:id="l92"/>advantages priviledges, Franchises Liberties and <lb xml:id="l93"/>immunities for and during her <choice><abbr>s<hi rend="superscript">d</hi>.</abbr><expan>said</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>Ma<hi rend="superscript">ties</hi>.</abbr><expan>Majesties</expan></choice> pleasure in as <lb xml:id="l94"/>full and amply manner to all intents and purposes, as <lb xml:id="l95"/>the said George Allardes <choice><abbr>d<hi rend="overline">ece</hi>d</abbr><expan>deceased</expan></choice> or any other person or <lb xml:id="l96"/>persons did or at any time heretofore might or ought to <lb xml:id="l97"/>hold and enjoy the same.</p>
    
    <p rend="indent0" xml:id="par6"><hi rend="larger"><hi rend="bold">And</hi></hi> whereas by the aforesaid Acts of Parliament <lb xml:id="l98"/>it is amongst other things provided that no moneys <lb xml:id="l99"/>leviable or payable by the same shall be applied or converted

<choice><orig><hi rend="larger"><hi rend="bold">to</hi></hi></orig><reg>to</reg></choice> any <del type="strikethrough">other</del> use or uses whatsoever other than <lb xml:id="l100"/>defraying the charge or expence of the Mint or Mints <lb xml:id="l101"/>and of the assaying melting down wast + Coinage of <lb xml:id="l102"/>Gold and Silver and the <choice><abbr>encouragem<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>encouragement</expan></choice> of the bringing in <lb xml:id="l103"/>of Gold and Silver into the <choice><abbr>s<hi rend="superscript">d</hi>.</abbr><expan>said</expan></choice> Mint or Mints there to be <lb xml:id="l104"/>coined into the currant Coins of this Kingdome Nor <lb xml:id="l105"/>should any of the <choice><abbr>s<hi rend="superscript">d</hi>.</abbr><expan>said</expan></choice> moneys be issued out of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Exchequer <lb xml:id="l106"/>but by order or warrant of the Lord Treasurer + Vnder-<lb xml:id="l107"/>Treasurer or <choice><abbr>Commission<hi rend="superscript">rs</hi>.</abbr><expan>Commissioners</expan></choice> of the Treasury for the time <lb xml:id="l108"/>being, to the Master + Worker or Masters + Workers <lb xml:id="l109"/>of her <choice><abbr>Ma<hi rend="superscript">ties</hi>.</abbr><expan>Majesties</expan></choice> Mint or Mints for the time being, and <lb xml:id="l110"/>mentioning that they are for the use + service afore<choice><abbr>s<hi rend="superscript">d</hi>.</abbr><expan>said</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l111"/>to be kept in her <choice><abbr>Ma<hi rend="superscript">ties</hi>.</abbr><expan>Majesties</expan></choice> Office of Receipt in the <choice><abbr>s<hi rend="superscript">d</hi>.</abbr><expan>said</expan></choice> Mint <lb xml:id="l112"/>or Mints under the Keys of the Master + Worker <lb xml:id="l113"/>Warden and Comptroller for the time being + issued <lb xml:id="l114"/>out thence from time to time according to the manner <lb xml:id="l115"/>and course of the Mint or Mints respectively.</p>
    
    <p rend="indent0" xml:id="par7"><hi rend="larger"><hi rend="bold">And</hi></hi> in regard the payments + <choice><abbr>disbursem<hi rend="superscript">ts</hi>.</abbr><expan>disbursements</expan></choice> of the <lb xml:id="l116"/>said Mint formerly paid out of the Duties arising by <lb xml:id="l117"/>the twenty fourth Act in the 2<hi rend="superscript">d</hi>. session of <choice><abbr>Parliam<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>Parliament</expan></choice> in <lb xml:id="l118"/>the first of his <choice><abbr>s<hi rend="superscript">d</hi>.</abbr><expan>said</expan></choice> late <choice><abbr>Ma<hi rend="superscript">tie</hi>.</abbr><expan>Majestie</expan></choice> King <choice><orig>I</orig><reg>J</reg></choice>ames the seventh<del type="cancelled"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del> <lb xml:id="l119"/>made in Scotland dated the fourteenth day of Iune 1686 <lb xml:id="l120"/>are by the afore<choice><abbr>s<hi rend="superscript">d</hi>.</abbr><expan>said</expan></choice> Acts of Parliament appointed to <lb xml:id="l121"/>be paid out of the moneys arising by the same Acts of <lb xml:id="l122"/><choice><abbr>Parliam<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Parliament</expan></choice>. <hi rend="large">Wherefore</hi> our said Sovereign Lady the <lb xml:id="l123"/>Queen doth by these presents ordain + appoint that the <lb xml:id="l124"/><choice><abbr>s<hi rend="superscript">d</hi>.</abbr><expan>said</expan></choice> Master and Worker shall receive out of her <choice><abbr>Ma<hi rend="superscript">ties</hi>.</abbr><expan>Majesties</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l125"/>Exchequer from time to time all such moneys as are <lb xml:id="l126"/>appointed to be paid unto him by the said Acts of <lb xml:id="l127"/><choice><abbr>Parliam<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>Parliament</expan></choice> for defraying the charges or expences of the <lb xml:id="l128"/>Mint or Mints, and of the assaying, melting down, wast <lb xml:id="l129"/>and coinage of Gold and Silver, and the <choice><abbr>encouragem<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>encouragement</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l130"/>of bringing in of Gold and Silver into the said Mint <lb xml:id="l131"/>there to bee coined into the Current Coines of the <lb xml:id="l132"/>Kingdome of Great Brittain</p>

    <p rend="indent0" xml:id="par8"><hi rend="larger"><hi rend="bold">And</hi></hi> that the said Master and Worker shall upon <lb xml:id="l133"/>his Accompt yearly to be made of his Receipts, <choice><abbr>paym<hi rend="superscript">ts</hi>.</abbr><expan>payments</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l134"/>charges and disbursements before the Barons of the <lb xml:id="l135"/>Exche<choice><orig><hi rend="underline"></hi></orig><reg>quer</reg></choice> for the time being, have full allowance and <lb xml:id="l136"/>defalcation and discharge of and for all such su<choice><orig><hi rend="overline">m</hi>e</orig><reg>summe</reg></choice> and <lb xml:id="l137"/>su<choice><orig>m</orig><reg>mm</reg></choice>es of moneys as he shall truly pay and disburse <lb xml:id="l138"/>according to the directions hereafter in these p<choice><orig><hi rend="superscript">r</hi></orig><reg>re</reg></choice>sents express'd</p>
    
    <p rend="indent0" xml:id="par9"><hi rend="larger"><hi rend="bold">And</hi></hi> the said <choice><orig>I</orig><reg>J</reg></choice>ohn Montgom<choice><orig/><reg>e</reg></choice>rie doth by these presents <lb xml:id="l139"/>covenant undertake and agree to and with our Sovereign <lb xml:id="l140"/>Lady the Queen to make her <choice><abbr>Ma<hi rend="superscript">ties</hi>.</abbr><expan>Majesties</expan></choice> money in manner + <lb xml:id="l141"/>form following That is to say to make four sorts of <lb xml:id="l142"/>money of Crown Gold.</p>

    <p rend="indent0" xml:id="par16"><hi rend="larger"><hi rend="bold">But</hi></hi> because the said moneys of Gold may not continually <lb xml:id="l168"/>be made according in all things to the right standard But <lb xml:id="l169"/>per adventure in default of the said Master + Worker <lb xml:id="l170"/>it shall be found sometimes to<add place="inline" indicator="no">o</add> strong or too feeble by too <lb xml:id="l171"/>much or too little in weight or in fineness or in both Our <lb xml:id="l172"/>sovereign Lady the Queen doth will and command that <lb xml:id="l173"/>when the <choice><abbr>s<hi rend="superscript">d</hi>.</abbr><expan>said</expan></choice> moneys of Gold shall be found at the assay <lb xml:id="l174"/>before the deliverance too strong or too feeble all only <lb xml:id="l175"/>in weight or all only in fineness or on both the sixth part <lb xml:id="l176"/>of a Carrat in the pound weight of Gold and no more, the <lb xml:id="l177"/>which sixth part in that one or the sixth part in that <lb xml:id="l178"/>other or the sixth part in them both shall bee called <lb xml:id="l179"/><hi rend="large">Remedy</hi> for the said Master That then that money <lb xml:id="l180"/>shall be delivered for good, so always that the same default <lb xml:id="l181"/>happen by Casualty otherways not But if default bee <lb xml:id="l182"/>found in the same money in weight or in fineness or in <lb xml:id="l183"/>both over the sixth part of a Carratt which is called <lb xml:id="l184"/>Remedy as aforesaid, then the deliverance shall cease <lb xml:id="l185"/>and that money shall be challenged + adjudged less <lb xml:id="l186"/>than good and to be new molten and recoined at the <lb xml:id="l187"/>cost of the <choice><abbr>s<hi rend="superscript">d</hi>.</abbr><expan>said</expan></choice> Master till be it put to point as money <lb xml:id="l188"/>deliverable.</p>

    <p rend="indent0" xml:id="par32"><hi rend="larger"><hi rend="bold">And</hi></hi> our Sovereign Lady the Queen doth will <lb xml:id="l299"/>and command by this Indenture that the <choice><abbr>s<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>said</expan></choice> Warden <lb xml:id="l300"/>and the Counterwarden or Comptroller of her <choice><abbr>Ma<hi rend="superscript">ties</hi>.</abbr><expan>Majesties</expan></choice> Chief Clerk + Clerk <lb xml:id="l301"/>of the papers for the time being shall enter and record <lb xml:id="l302"/>in several Leidger Books all such Bullion of Gold + <lb xml:id="l303"/>silver as from time to time shall be brought into the <lb xml:id="l304"/><choice><abbr>s<hi rend="superscript">d</hi>.</abbr><expan>said</expan></choice> Mint, The which Entry shall comprehend <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> weight <lb xml:id="l305"/>fineness + value of the said Bullion, the parties <lb xml:id="l306"/>name that brought it, and what day, And after the <lb xml:id="l307"/><choice><abbr>s<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>said</expan></choice> Bullion of gold + silver shall be received + the assays <lb xml:id="l308"/>thereof made reported + entered into the <choice><abbr>s<hi rend="superscript">d</hi>.</abbr><expan>said</expan></choice> Leidger <lb xml:id="l309"/>Books, the same Bullion shall be forthwith put into <lb xml:id="l310"/>a Chest or Room, and the Chest or Room shall bee <lb xml:id="l311"/>locked with three keys, Whereof one Key shall <lb xml:id="l312"/>remain with the <choice><abbr>s<hi rend="superscript">d</hi>.</abbr><expan>said</expan></choice> Master or Worker, + one other <lb xml:id="l313"/>of the Keys shall remain with the said Warden or <lb xml:id="l314"/>Wardens or one of them for the time being And <lb xml:id="l315"/>one other of the said Keys shall remain with the <choice><abbr>s<hi rend="superscript">d</hi>.</abbr><expan>said</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l316"/>Counterwarden for the time being and there shall <lb xml:id="l317"/>continue untill such time as the same de deliver'd <lb xml:id="l318"/>to the making of moneys</p>
    
    <p rend="indent0" xml:id="par33"><hi rend="larger"><hi rend="bold">And</hi></hi> the said Warden and Counter Warden + <lb xml:id="l319"/>likewise her <choice><abbr>Ma<hi rend="superscript">ties</hi>.</abbr><expan>Majesties</expan></choice> Clerk shall also keep<del type="cancelled">ing</del> <lb xml:id="l320"/>severall Books of melting, Declaring in the same <lb xml:id="l321"/>the Quantity and fineness of all manner of gold <lb xml:id="l322"/>and silver + allay put into the melting <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> the report

        <choice><orig><hi rend="larger"><hi rend="bold">Of</hi></hi></orig><reg>of</reg></choice> every assay called the Pott assay, and the same <lb xml:id="l323"/>Books shall remain in their several Custodies to charge <lb xml:id="l324"/>the Master with all And the said Books shall monthly be <lb xml:id="l325"/>subscribed + figured by the <choice><abbr>s<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>said</expan></choice> Wardens or one of them <lb xml:id="l326"/>and the Master and Counterwarden. And the said <lb xml:id="l327"/>Assaymaster of our Sovereign Lady the Queen shall <lb xml:id="l328"/>keep one Book of all such Bullion of Gold + silver as <lb xml:id="l329"/>shall be brought into the said Mint whereby the <lb xml:id="l330"/>quantity and fineness may appear with the report also <lb xml:id="l331"/>of the assay of every several pot <choice><abbr>com<hi rend="overline">on</hi>ly</abbr><expan>commonly</expan></choice> called the <lb xml:id="l332"/>pott assay Which pott assay shall be made of some <lb xml:id="l333"/>Ingott of the said Bullion to be taken by <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>s<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>said</expan></choice> Warden <lb xml:id="l334"/>Counterwarden + Assaymaster or any two of them <lb xml:id="l335"/>after the pot is cast out.</p>
    
    <p rend="indent0" xml:id="par34"><hi rend="larger"><hi rend="bold">And</hi></hi> if any person or persons happen to bring into the <lb xml:id="l336"/>Mint any manner of gold or silver nigh to the Standard <lb xml:id="l337"/>afore<choice><abbr>s<hi rend="superscript">d</hi>.</abbr><expan>said</expan></choice> then the Master shall receive it for the value <lb xml:id="l338"/>accordingly, so as the charges to make it agreable in <lb xml:id="l339"/>fineness to the several standards afore<choice><abbr>s<hi rend="superscript">d</hi>.</abbr><expan>said</expan></choice> be born + <lb xml:id="l340"/>sustained out of the revenue arising to her <choice><abbr>Ma<hi rend="superscript">tie</hi>.</abbr><expan>Majestie</expan></choice> by <lb xml:id="l341"/>vertue of the afore<choice><abbr>s<hi rend="superscript">d</hi>.</abbr><expan>said</expan></choice> Acts of <choice><abbr>Parliam<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Parliament</expan></choice>.</p>
    
    <p rend="indent0" xml:id="par35"><hi rend="larger"><hi rend="bold">And</hi></hi> our said Sovereign Lady the Queen doth by these <lb xml:id="l342"/>presents give full power and authority unto the <choice><abbr>s<hi rend="superscript">d</hi>.</abbr><expan>said</expan></choice> Master <lb xml:id="l343"/>+ Worker from time to time to put such privy Mark or <lb xml:id="l344"/>Marks upon the Edges or Flatt sides of the <choice><abbr>s<hi rend="superscript">d</hi>.</abbr><expan>said</expan></choice> gold and <lb xml:id="l345"/>silver moneys to be coined as afore<choice><abbr>s<hi rend="superscript">d</hi>.</abbr><expan>said</expan></choice> as he the <choice><abbr>s<hi rend="superscript">d</hi>.</abbr><expan>said</expan></choice> Master <lb xml:id="l346"/>shall judge most safe + convenient for the <choice><abbr>s<hi rend="superscript">d</hi>.</abbr><expan>said</expan></choice> moneys + <lb xml:id="l347"/>from time to time to alter + change such privy mar<del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">k</add> <lb xml:id="l348"/>or marks according as he shall judge the same most <lb xml:id="l349"/>convenient and necessary so that the <choice><abbr>s<hi rend="superscript">d</hi>.</abbr><expan>said</expan></choice> Mast<choice><orig><hi rend="superscript">r</hi>.</orig><reg>er</reg></choice> + Worker <lb xml:id="l350"/>may from time to time know and discover which of gold <lb xml:id="l351"/>+ silver amongst other be made by him + which not.</p>
    
    <p rend="indent0" xml:id="par36"><hi rend="larger"><hi rend="bold">And</hi></hi> the <choice><abbr>s<hi rend="superscript">d</hi>.</abbr><expan>said</expan></choice> Warden or Wardens + Counter Warden <lb xml:id="l352"/>or Comptroller or their Deputy or Deputies shall oversee <lb xml:id="l353"/>and survey the said assaying melting sizing + making <lb xml:id="l354"/>of the said moneys of gold and silver at all times + <lb xml:id="l355"/>in all places, and shall indeavour and procure that <lb xml:id="l356"/>the <choice><abbr>s<hi rend="superscript">d</hi>.</abbr><expan>said</expan></choice> moneys and every of them be made and perfected

    <p rend="indent0" xml:id="par37"><hi rend="larger"><hi rend="bold">And</hi></hi> whereas two Piles of Standard english weights <lb xml:id="l362"/>lately made and printed with a Rose Crown'd + Thistle <lb xml:id="l363"/>Crown'd whereof twelve Ounces English do equal twelve <lb xml:id="l364"/>Ounces four penny<choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ts</hi>.</abbr><expan>weights</expan></choice> and nine grains Scottish do remain <lb xml:id="l365"/>the one of them by Bill indented in the hands of the <lb xml:id="l366"/>General of the <choice><abbr>s<hi rend="superscript">d</hi>.</abbr><expan>said</expan></choice> Mint and the other with the Warden of <lb xml:id="l367"/>her <choice><abbr>Ma<hi rend="superscript">ties</hi>.</abbr><expan>Majesties</expan></choice> Mint in the Tower of London; The <choice><abbr>s<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>said</expan></choice> General <lb xml:id="l368"/>shall produce the <choice><abbr>s<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>said</expan></choice> Pile in his custody and make it forth <lb xml:id="l369"/>coming to the <choice><abbr>s<hi rend="superscript">d</hi>.</abbr><expan>said</expan></choice> Master Warden + Counter Warden or <choice><abbr>Comptrol<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>Comptroller</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l370"/>at all times and on all occasions as they shall require it + <lb xml:id="l371"/>have use for the same.<choice><orig><add place="inline" indicator="no" hand="#in">]</add></orig><reg/></choice></p>

    <p rend="indent0" xml:id="par44"><hi rend="larger"><hi rend="bold">And</hi></hi> be the said Master or Worker Warden or <lb xml:id="l493"/>Wardens and Comptroller held and bound to give their <lb xml:id="l494"/>attendance at the said Mint, every Wednesday in the <lb xml:id="l495"/>week, and such other days as shall be by <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">m</hi></abbr><expan>them</expan></choice> appointed <lb xml:id="l496"/>and agreed on for the receipt of all such Bullion as <lb xml:id="l497"/>shall be brought into the <choice><abbr>s<hi rend="superscript">d</hi>.</abbr><expan>said</expan></choice> Mint + for the delivery <lb xml:id="l498"/>out of the coined moneys.</p>

    <p rend="indent0" xml:id="par53"><hi rend="larger"><hi rend="bold">And</hi></hi> her said <choice><abbr>Ma<hi rend="superscript">tie</hi>.</abbr><expan>Majestie</expan></choice> doth by these presents also <lb xml:id="l629"/>will and ordain That the Counterwarden or Comptroll<choice><orig><hi rend="superscript">r</hi>.</orig><reg>er</reg></choice> <lb xml:id="l630"/>of the Mint for the time being shall deliver upon Oath <lb xml:id="l631"/>taken before one of the Barons of the Exch<choice><orig><hi rend="underline">e</hi></orig><reg>equer</reg></choice> a Roll <lb xml:id="l632"/>which shall be called the Counter Wardens or <choice><abbr>Comptr<hi rend="superscript">rs</hi>.</abbr><expan>Comptrollers</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l633"/>Roll containing an Accompt of all the gold + silver <lb xml:id="l634"/>Bullion and allay melted And of all the Gold and <lb xml:id="l635"/>silver moneys coined monthly in the said Mint.</p>
    
    <p rend="indent0" xml:id="par54"><hi rend="larger"><hi rend="bold">And</hi></hi> the said Master or his Deputy shall pay unto <lb xml:id="l636"/>such Officers or Workmen that shall be employed in <lb xml:id="l637"/>making of several gold and silver <choice><sic>peices</sic><corr>pieces</corr></choice> round before <lb xml:id="l638"/>they are sized and for the marking the edges of them <lb xml:id="l639"/>with Letters or Grainings the su<choice><orig><hi rend="overline">m</hi></orig><reg>mm</reg></choice>e of <space dim="horizontal" unit="chars" extent="15"/> <lb xml:id="l640"/>for every pound weight Troy of gold moneys, and <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l641"/>s<choice><orig><hi rend="overline">um</hi></orig><reg>umm</reg></choice>e of <space dim="horizontal" unit="chars" extent="8"/> in every pound weight Troy of the <lb xml:id="l642"/>said silver moneys as also for the making labour <lb xml:id="l643"/>and expences therein.</p>
    
    <p rend="indent0" xml:id="par55"><hi rend="larger"><hi rend="bold">And</hi></hi> further more
        <del type="blockStrikethrough"><add place="inline" indicator="no">[</add>because the Provost + Company <lb xml:id="l644"/>of Moniers and Workers of the money may bee <lb xml:id="l645"/>encouraged to do their Duties well in the making sizing <lb xml:id="l646"/>blanching and coining of the gold and silver moneys as <lb xml:id="l647"/>also for the making<add place="inline" indicator="no">]</add></del> 
        upon every hundred pounds weight <lb xml:id="l648"/>of silver moneys hereafter to be coined, <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">the said Master shall make</add> one pound weight <lb xml:id="l649"/>and a half or eighteen Ounces in the Quantities or <lb xml:id="l650"/>species following viz<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>. in pence half an Ounce, in two<lb type="hyphenated" xml:id="l651"/>pences three Ounces, in threepences six Ounces + <lb xml:id="l652"/>in Groats eight Ounces and a half<choice><sic>,</sic><corr><del type="over">,</del><add place="over" indicator="no">.</add></corr></choice>

    <p rend="indent0" xml:id="par56"><hi rend="larger"><hi rend="bold">And</hi></hi> our sovereign Lady the Queen doth hereby will <lb xml:id="l673"/>and command that the Queens Clerk, as Clerk of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Irons <lb xml:id="l674"/>for the time being do keep a true accompt of all the blank <lb xml:id="l675"/>Dyes for the coining of the gold and silver moneys, which <lb xml:id="l676"/>shall from time to time be delivered to the Chief Ingraver <lb xml:id="l677"/>or Ingravers of her <choice><abbr>Ma<hi rend="superscript">ties</hi>.</abbr><expan>Majesties</expan></choice> Mint for the time being And <lb xml:id="l678"/>also fo all the blank Dyes which shall be sunk or stamped <lb xml:id="l679"/>by the said Graver or Gravers, and of all the Dyes <lb xml:id="l680"/>which after sinking shall be made fit for use + hardned. <lb xml:id="l681"/>And the said Graver and Gravers is and are hereby <lb xml:id="l682"/>likewise injoined monthly to return unto the said Queens <lb xml:id="l683"/>Clerk as Clerk of the Irons all Dyes as shall from time <lb xml:id="l684"/>to time be faulty and worn by using in the said Mint or <lb xml:id="l685"/>otherways to be defaced in the presence of the Master <lb xml:id="l686"/>Warden and Comptroller of the said Mint and not <lb xml:id="l687"/>otherwise And the said Queens Clerk as Clerk of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Irons <lb xml:id="l688"/>is hereby further enjoyned to give an Accompt to the <choice><abbr>s<hi rend="superscript">d</hi>.</abbr><expan>said</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l689"/>Master and Warden and Counter Warden as he shall <lb xml:id="l690"/>thereunto be required by them of what blank Dyes have <lb xml:id="l691"/>been delivered unto the said Graver or Gravers or sunk <lb xml:id="l692"/>by them or hardened by the Smith And what faulty <lb xml:id="l693"/>and worn out Dyes have been returned by them to be <lb xml:id="l694"/>defaced, as also what others are remaining in <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>their</expan></choice> hands <lb xml:id="l695"/>that a just accompt may be kept of the same.</p>

    <p rend="indent0" xml:id="par58"><hi rend="larger"><hi rend="bold">And</hi></hi> for the more exact sizing of Gold and silver <lb xml:id="l700"/>Coins to be made by the Mill and Press + reducing of <lb xml:id="l701"/>them to a greater exactness and equality in weight <choice><orig>I</orig><reg>i</reg></choice>t <lb xml:id="l702"/>is hereby ordered commanded and appointed by her <lb xml:id="l703"/><choice><abbr>Ma<hi rend="superscript">tie</hi>.</abbr><expan>Majestie</expan></choice> That the Counterpoises of the several + respective <lb xml:id="l704"/>gold and silver herein mentioned be made lighter <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">n</hi></abbr><expan>then</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l705"/>their just weight according to their proportions <choice><abbr>fo<hi rend="overline">ll</hi></abbr><expan>following</expan></choice>. <lb xml:id="l706"/>That is to say that two grains be taken from the <lb xml:id="l707"/>Counterpoise of the Crown, one grain from the <lb xml:id="l708"/>half Crown, half a grain from the shilling and a <lb xml:id="l709"/>quarter of a grain to be taken from the Counterpoise <lb xml:id="l710"/>of the sixpence of silver moneys And that two grains <lb xml:id="l711"/>be taken from the Counterpoise of the five pound <choice><sic>peice</sic><corr>piece</corr></choice> <lb xml:id="l712"/>one grain from the Forty shillings <choice><sic>peice</sic><corr>piece</corr></choice>, half a grain <lb xml:id="l713"/>from the twenty shilling <choice><sic>peice</sic><corr>piece</corr></choice> and a quarter of a grain <lb xml:id="l714"/>from the Counterpoise of the ten shilling <choice><sic>peice</sic><corr>piece</corr></choice> of gold <lb xml:id="l715"/>And her <choice><abbr>Ma<hi rend="superscript">tie</hi>.</abbr><expan>Majestie</expan></choice> ordains that no <choice><sic>peice</sic><corr>piece</corr></choice> or <choice><sic>peices</sic><corr>pieces</corr></choice> of the <lb xml:id="l716"/>said species be made lighter <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">n</hi></abbr><expan>then</expan></choice> their Counterpoises.</p>
