<p rend="indent0" xml:id="par2">May it please your Lords <space dim="vertical" unit="lines" extent="2"/></p>
    
<p xml:id="par3">I have perused the Memorial <del type="strikethrough">of the</del> concerning the Mint <lb xml:id="l1"/>in Scotland &amp; humbly represent that D<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Gregory was sent down into <lb xml:id="l2"/>Scotland to assist in regulating that Mint during the time of the Recoinage <lb xml:id="l3"/>only as appears by his Report annexed to the Memorial, &amp; that the three <lb xml:id="l4"/>new Clerks were proposed by me to assist the Officers <del type="strikethrough">o<unclear reason="del" cert="low">n</unclear></del> during that service <lb xml:id="l5"/><add place="lineBeginning supralinear" indicator="yes">&amp; no longer</add> &amp; are now superfluous, <add place="inline" indicator="no">&amp;</add> <del type="strikethrough">And <unclear reason="hand">t</unclear></del> in the copy of Mr Montgomeries Indenture<del type="strikethrough"><unclear reason="del" cert="low">were</unclear></del> <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">in the Treasury <del type="over"><unclear reason="over" cert="low">wer</unclear></del><add place="over" indicator="no">ar</add>e</add> <lb xml:id="l6"/>omitted, <del type="strikethrough">&amp; that some other salaries to <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> value of 400<hi rend="superscript">li</hi> per an are <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes"><del type="strikethrough">also</del></add> superfluous.</del></p>
    
<p xml:id="par4">That the estimate of the charge of Salaries Repairs &amp; Incidents given in <lb xml:id="l7"/>to Parli<unclear reason="hand"><del type="over"><gap reason="over" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">a</add></unclear>ament by M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Allardice then the Master &amp; Worker of that Mint, <lb xml:id="l8"/>am<del type="over"><gap reason="over" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">o</add>unting to 1200 pounds, <del type="strikethrough"><unclear reason="del" cert="medium">are</unclear></del> conteined <del type="strikethrough"><del type="cancelled">the</del> all</del> the Salaries of the said three <lb xml:id="l9"/>Clerks amounting to 120<del type="cancelled">0</del> pounds per an, and the <del type="strikethrough">salary of the</del><add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">pension of 50 per ano to the</add> Clerk of the Bulli<lb xml:id="l10"/>on <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> is to cease &amp; <del type="cancelled"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del> 50<hi rend="superscript"><hi rend="overline">li</hi></hi> per an given to M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Drummond the Warden of <lb xml:id="l11"/>that Mint <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> is also to cease, &amp; the salary of the Generall of the Mint <lb xml:id="l12"/>whose Office is useless<del type="strikethrough">, <del type="cancelled">&amp; <gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del> &amp; that the 1200<hi rend="superscript">li</hi> was</del></p>
    
<p xml:id="par5">That <del type="cancelled">sin</del><del type="strikethrough">the Act of free</del><add place="supralinear" indicator="no">the first</add> Parliament <del type="strikethrough">in the <unclear reason="del" cert="medium">re</unclear></del> of <choice><abbr>K.</abbr><expan>King</expan></choice> <choice><orig>I</orig><reg>J</reg></choice>ames VII<hi rend="superscript">th</hi> <lb xml:id="l13"/><del type="strikethrough">setled</del> allowed for salaries repairs <del type="strikethrough">&amp; Inci</del> new Tools &amp; Incidents only 12000 <lb xml:id="l14"/>pounds Scots <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> answers to 900<hi rend="superscript">l</hi> English recconing a 60 pound peece Scots at <lb xml:id="l15"/>4<hi rend="superscript">s</hi> 6<hi rend="superscript">d</hi> English, &amp; that the coinage then amounted only to about 300<hi rend="superscript">li</hi> per an <lb xml:id="l16"/>more, so that 1200<hi rend="superscript">li</hi> p<del type="over"><gap reason="over" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">o</add>unds per an (<choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> is <del type="strikethrough">sufficient for</del> allready allowed) <lb xml:id="l17"/>is sufficient for all the charges of that Mint, especially if the Generalls <lb xml:id="l18"/>Office upon the next voidance of that place, should cease <add place="lineEnd" indicator="no">pursuant to <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Act of</add> <add place="lineBeginning infralinear" indicator="no">Vnion.</add></p>
    
<p xml:id="par6">That the Coinage <del type="over"><gap reason="over" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">A</add>cts <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">before the Vnion,</add> ordered that all the moneys arising by those <lb xml:id="l19"/>Acts should be issued to the Master &amp; Worker of the Mint in England for <lb xml:id="l20"/>the use &amp; service of that Mint in general without distinguishing (in the War<lb type="hyphenated" xml:id="l21"/>rants) between the moneys issued for salaries &amp; repairs &amp; those issued for <lb xml:id="l22"/>coinage; &amp; by the Act of Vnion the coinage monies ought to be issued in <lb xml:id="l23"/>the same manner to <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Master <del type="strikethrough">&amp; Wor</del> of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Mint in Scotland, &amp; there<lb xml:id="l24"/>fore the clause <del type="strikethrough">propo</del> annexed to <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Memorial &amp; propose<del type="over"><unclear reason="over" cert="low">s</unclear></del><add place="over" indicator="no">d</add> to be added to <lb xml:id="l25"/>the Bill is <del type="strikethrough">irregular</del> inconsistent with the Act of Vnion, <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> Ordeins that <lb xml:id="l26"/>the Mint in Scotland be under the same Rules as the Mint in England. <lb xml:id="l27"/>And for the same reason the clause in <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Act of the 7<hi rend="superscript">th</hi> of the late <lb xml:id="l28"/>Queen concerning the Mint in <del type="strikethrough">England</del> Scotland ought not to be <lb xml:id="l29"/><choice><sic>restained</sic><corr>restrained</corr></choice> to salaries repairs &amp; necessaries of the Mint by to extend <lb xml:id="l30"/>also to <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> charge of coinage, &amp; be issued out of the Exchequer of great <lb xml:id="l31"/>Britain for the use &amp; service of the Mint in general. And when the <lb xml:id="l32"/>moneys are in the Exchequer of the Mint, the Officers of the <lb xml:id="l33"/>Mint are to <del type="over"><gap reason="over" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">i</add>ssue them out thence for particular services &amp; see that <lb xml:id="l34"/>no more be issued for salaries &amp; repairs then are allowed by Act <unclear reason="hand"><del type="over"><gap reason="del" unit="chars" extent="2"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">of</add></unclear>of Par<lb xml:id="l35"/>liament.</p>
