[Note on dating: the draft warrant refers to the warrant of 30 July 1711 [see notes to MINT00563 (Mint 19/2/522)] as having been issued 'the 30th Instant', which (unless Newton had momentarily forgotten that July only has 31 days) means the draft must have been written on the 31st. NC, 5: 178, n. 1 argues that the notes (a) - (c) must predate the warrant of 30 July since they do not refer to it, but there seems no very obvious reason why they should refer to it: the fact that they are written below this draft warrant (of 31 July) suggests rather that they are either contemporary with it or later.]

Followed by:

(a) two draft clauses (one deleted) to the effect that the money due to Newton for paying off the receipts will be met from the civil list;

(b) a draft clause stating that the shortfall on coinage from premium plate will be met from coinage duty;

(c) a minute to the same effect as (a) above with the addition that at Newton's request this may be paid in the form of tin to an equivalent value.

Whereas by Warrant under orour signe manual dated the 30th day of Iuly hasbe Instant we directed you the Master & Worker of orour Mint in the Tower of London to pay unto each of the Importers of Plate whose Receipts are dated on or after the 15th day of May at the rate of five shillings per ounce for the plate Imported Our further Will & pleasure is that out of such moneys as shall remain in your hands to be imprested to you or advanced by your for this service you pay off the remainder of the [said receipts so as fully to discharge the same & take them back. And for so doing this shall be your Warrant.] moneys for wchwhich the said Receipts were given, that is to say five pence per Ounce in old standard eight pence pence per Ounce new standard & six pence per ounce uncertain standard above the aforesaid above the s 5s per ounce & take back the Receipts so discharged. And for doing so this shall be your Warrant.

Ordered that what moneys shall be advanced by SrSir I. N. Master & WrWorker of her MajtsMajestys MMint twoards discharging the Receipts given by the Officers of the said Mint for plate, be repaid to him out of the civil-list before next Christmas unless they shall be repaid by Act of Parliamtment out of the coynage moneys before that time

Agreed by my LdLord Treasurer that what moneys shall be due to SrSir Isaac Newton at Christmas next for paying off the Receipts given by the Officers of the Mint for Plate, be then paid to him out of the civil list. And that the value of his value thereof in Tin after the rate of 3li 10s per Ccwt fbe upon, th demand delivered to him or his Executors or for security thereof, to be sold after next IJanuary if the debt be not then paid.
