<p>Reports on the quantities coined, with a breakdown of the sources of the silver, and on progress with making puncheons and dies for the new copper coinage. Some experimentation is still needed to determine the best way of preparing the copper now to be used, as the workers are only used to dealing with coarser varieties which require less sophisticated treatment.</p>

And that part of this silver amounting to 143086 pound <tei:lb xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" xml:id="l11"/>sterling was coyned out of English Plate imported by Acts of <tei:lb xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" xml:id="l12"/>Parliament in the years 1709 &amp; 1711, &amp; another part amounting <tei:lb xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" xml:id="l13"/>to 13342<tei:hi xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" rend="superscript"><tei:hi rend="overline">li</tei:hi></tei:hi> was coyned out of Vigo Plate in the years 1703 &amp; <tei:lb xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" xml:id="l14"/>1704, &amp; another part amounting to 45732<tei:hi xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" rend="superscript"><tei:hi rend="overline">li</tei:hi></tei:hi> was coined out of <tei:lb xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" xml:id="l15"/>silver extracted from our own Lead Ore, &amp; the rest amount<tei:lb xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" type="hyphenated" xml:id="l16"/>ing to 21220<tei:hi xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" rend="superscript"><tei:hi rend="overline">li</tei:hi></tei:hi> was coyned chiefly out of <tei:gap xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" reason="blotDel" unit="chars" extent="2"/>old Plate melted <tei:lb xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" xml:id="l17"/>down &amp; some of it out of Pieces of Eight.</p>
    
    <tei:p xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" xml:id="par4">The Graver of the Mint hath been hard at work ever <tei:lb xml:id="l18"/>since the last session of Parliament in making the Em<tei:del type="over"><tei:gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="3"/></tei:del><tei:add place="over" indicator="no">boss</tei:add>m<tei:del type="over"><tei:gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></tei:del><tei:add place="over" indicator="no">e</tei:add>nts <tei:lb xml:id="l19"/>&amp; Puncheons for the half pence &amp; farthings &amp; taking off a few <tei:lb xml:id="l20"/>Dyes from them. The making of an Embossment &amp; Puncheon for <tei:lb xml:id="l21"/>an half penny takes up the time of about six weeks &amp; there have <tei:lb xml:id="l22"/>been two embossments &amp; two Puncheons made for the half pence &amp; one <tei:lb xml:id="l23"/>for the farthings. And now these are finished &amp; some Dyes are made <tei:lb xml:id="l24"/>from the Puncheons, it will take up a little time to examin the <tei:lb xml:id="l25"/>copper &amp; settle the best method of preparing sizing nealing &amp; <tei:lb xml:id="l26"/>cleaning it, &amp; making it fit for the Mint: this being a manufac<tei:lb xml:id="l27"/>ture different from that of coarse copper, &amp; more difficult, &amp; not <tei:lb xml:id="l28"/>yet practised in England. And as soon as this method is fixed, w<tei:del type="over"><tei:gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></tei:del><tei:add place="over" indicator="no">e</tei:add> shall <tei:lb xml:id="l29"/>begin to coine in quantity.</tei:p>
