<p xml:id="par3">In obedience to <choice><abbr>yo<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>your</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>Lord<hi rend="superscript">ps</hi></abbr><expan>Lordships</expan></choice> Order of Reference of the 16th of Iune <lb xml:id="l2"/>last past upon the annext Proposal of M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Abel Slaney for himself &amp; partners <lb xml:id="l3"/>for a new Coinage of 700 Tuns of half pence &amp; farthings, We do humbly <lb xml:id="l4"/>acquaint <choice><abbr>yo<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>your</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>Lord<hi rend="superscript">p</hi></abbr><expan>Lordship</expan></choice> that We have enquired into all <unclear reason="hand"><del type="over"><gap reason="del" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">t</add></unclear>he Coinages of that sort since <lb xml:id="l5"/>the year 1672 &amp; do find that in the Reigns of K. Charles <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> 2<hi rend="superscript">d</hi> &amp; K. <choice><orig>I</orig><reg>J</reg></choice>ames <lb xml:id="l6"/>the <unclear reason="hand"><del type="over"><gap reason="del" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">2</add></unclear><hi rend="superscript">d</hi> &amp; in the beginning of the Reign of the last King &amp; Quee<del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">n</add> the <lb xml:id="l7"/>coinage of half pence &amp; farthings was performed by one or more Commissi<lb type="hyphenated" xml:id="l8"/>oners who had money imprested from the <choice><abbr>Excheq<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>Exchequer</expan></choice> to buy Copper &amp; Tin, &amp; <lb xml:id="l9"/>coined at 20<hi rend="superscript">d</hi> <choice><orig>ꝑ</orig><reg>per</reg></choice> pound Haverdupois &amp; accounted upon oath to the Government <lb xml:id="l10"/>for the produce thereof.</p>
    
<p xml:id="par4">That upon calling in the Tin half pence &amp; farthings by reason of the <lb xml:id="l11"/>complaints made against them, there was a Patent granted to the Proposer &amp; <lb xml:id="l12"/>others who contracted to change the Tin <unclear reason="hand"><del type="over"><gap reason="del" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">f</add></unclear>arthings &amp; half pence, &amp; to enable <lb xml:id="l13"/>them to bear that charge they were allowed to coin 700 Tuns at 21 pence <lb xml:id="l14"/><choice><orig>ꝑ</orig><reg>per</reg></choice> pound weight without being accountable to the Government. Which reason <lb xml:id="l15"/>now ceasing we are humbly of opinion that the former method by Commission <lb xml:id="l16"/>is most advantageous to the Government.</p>
    
<p xml:id="par5">We do not hear there is any demand of halfpence &amp; farthings at <lb xml:id="l17"/>present, &amp; tho there should be a want in some places it seems to <lb xml:id="l18"/>proceed from an unequal distribution, for we are informed they are <lb xml:id="l19"/>overstockt with them in others, a<unclear reason="hand"><del type="over"><gap reason="del" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">s</add></unclear> at <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> General Post Office, about Newcastle <lb xml:id="l20"/>&amp; at Leicester.</p>
    
<p xml:id="par6">We are further of opinion that the coynage of halfpence &amp; farthings <lb xml:id="l21"/>in this Kingdome should be to the intrinsick value, the charges of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l22"/>coynage &amp; Incidents deducted; but if that be not thought advisable at <lb xml:id="l23"/>present for fear of stopping the currency of those that are already <lb xml:id="l24"/>abroad, We humbly conceive that whenever a new Coinage shall be <lb xml:id="l25"/>thought convenient, it should be done in small quantities as her <lb xml:id="l26"/>Majesty from time to time shall appoint, to supply the decrease &amp; loss <lb xml:id="l27"/>of those already coined without danger of new complaints by over<lb type="hyphenated" xml:id="l28"/>stocking the Nation</p>
