In obedience to yryour LdpLordships order of Reference of yethe 15th of march last, upon yethe memoriall of mr Wm Shepard mr N: Shepard; & mr George Freeman, wherein they desire to have a patent for coyning 40 or 50 tunns per anannum of copper half pence or farthings, for yethe space of eight or ten years, of equall weight & fineness wthwith those now currt.current as also yryour LdpLordships order of Reference of yethe 22d of march last upon yethe petiction of yethe Provost & monyers of yethe mint, wherein they pray for a License to coyn 30 tunns of copper money a year of yethe same value, under yethe direction of yethe officers of yethe mint, & under such restrictions as yryour LdpLordship shall think fit, to relieve ymthem under yethe great straits they are in for want of employmtent in yethe mint, they being allow'd no salarys

We humbly take leave to remind yryour LdpLordship of a report we made yethe 1st of Iuly last upon a petiction of mr Abell Slaney to coin half pence & farthings, wherein we acquainted yryour LdpLordship, ytthat of ytthat coinages of copper money in ytthat reigns of K.King Charles yethe 2d, King IJames yethe 2d & in yethe beginning of yethe reign of yethe late King & Queen, had been carried on at yethe charge of yethe Crown, under yethe care & direction of yethe Principall officers of yethe mint, who kept due Entrys thereof in Books, & yethe whole profit & advantage thereof was accounted for up upon oath to yethe Crown, wchwhich we then thought yethe fittestbest & safest method to be followed

wEe have not heard any reasons since to alter our opinions, & therefore humbly propose to yryour LdpLordship, ytthat whenever her matiemajestie shall think fit to order copper money shouldto be coined, ytthat it may be performed as near as may be according to yethe method of yethe mint, ytthat yethe master worker of yethe mint may have money imprest to him out of yethe Excheqr to buy copper to be coined into halfpence & farthings of equall value wth these now currant, & to be subject tounder yethe same cheques that are observed for yethe coinage of gold & silver & to be coined by small quantitys, sufficient only to answer yethe demands of persons, without danger of complaints by overstocking yethe nation. oOut of yethe clear profits whereof, her matiemajestie may have it in her power either to brelieve yethe wants of yethe monyers of yethe mint many of whom we must inform yryour LdpLordship are in a starving condition, or to gratify any other persons All wchwhich is humbly submitted to yryour LdpsLordships great wisdom
