    <p xml:id="par3">I humbly beg leave to lay before <choice><abbr>yo<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>your</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>Lord<hi rend="superscript">p</hi></abbr><expan>Lordship</expan></choice> that the Master &amp; <lb xml:id="l2"/>Worker of her <choice><abbr>Maj<hi rend="superscript">ts</hi></abbr><expan>Majestys</expan></choice> Mint is not obliged to receive all the Gold &amp; Silver <lb xml:id="l3"/>brought into her <choice><abbr>Ma<hi rend="superscript">ts</hi></abbr><expan>Majestys</expan></choice> <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">Mint</add> to be coyned. If any gold be brought in which is <lb xml:id="l4"/>not tough, he returns it back to be toughne<del type="over"><gap reason="over" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">d</add> at the Importers charge <lb xml:id="l5"/>tho it be standard. If any gold <del type="over"><gap reason="over" unit="chars" extent="2"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">or</add> silver be not eavenly mixed he <lb xml:id="l6"/>returns it back to be remelted at the Importers charge. If it be not <lb xml:id="l7"/>neare to standar<del type="over"><unclear reason="hand" cert="low">t</unclear></del><add place="over" indicator="no">d</add> he returns it back to be refined at the Importers <lb xml:id="l8"/>charge. And to judg whether it be fit to be received or returned back <lb xml:id="l9"/>is left to his discretion. And by parity of reason he should not be obliged <lb xml:id="l10"/>to receive all sorts of copper to be coyned. If it be not fine or not <lb xml:id="l11"/>tough &amp; malleable or ill coloured or otherwise faulty, he should be <lb xml:id="l12"/>at liberty to return it back to be made fit for the Mint at the <lb xml:id="l13"/>Importers charge. Otherwise it will be difficult <del type="over"><unclear reason="del" cert="medium">to</unclear></del><add place="over" indicator="no">&amp;</add> scarce practi<lb type="hyphenated" xml:id="l14"/>cable to coyn the money of good malleable copper without allow<lb type="hyphenated" xml:id="l15"/>ing for the charge hazzards &amp; loss attending such an undertaking.</p>
    
    <p xml:id="par4">There is an assay of copper by refining a small parcel &amp; <lb xml:id="l16"/>then recconing what will be the wast charges &amp; trouble in refining <lb xml:id="l17"/>a Tunn of <del type="over"><gap reason="over" unit="chars" extent="2"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">su</add>ch copper. And such an assay is usefull in buying <del type="cancelled"><unclear reason="del" cert="medium">f</unclear></del> <lb xml:id="l18"/>coarse copper to be refined but is of little or no use in buying fine <lb xml:id="l19"/>copper, nor proper for the Mint. The price of fine copper depends <lb xml:id="l20"/>upon the malleability, &amp; two parcels of <del type="strikethrough">fine</del> copper equally fine, may <lb xml:id="l21"/>differ very much in their malleability &amp; by consequence in their price. <lb xml:id="l22"/>Copper refined to that degree &amp; in that manner as to be malleable <lb xml:id="l23"/>without cracking when red hot is the fittest material for manufac<lb type="hyphenated" xml:id="l24"/>turing into all sorts of copper vessels &amp; by consequence for money. <lb xml:id="l25"/>The Swedish copper money is of this standard; And such copper is <lb xml:id="l26"/>usually valued at about 11<formula><math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mfrac><mn>1</mn><mn>2</mn></mfrac></math></formula><tei:hi xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" rend="superscript">d</tei:hi> per <tei:choice xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0"><tei:abbr>lw<tei:hi rend="superscript">t</tei:hi></tei:abbr><tei:expan>poundweight</tei:expan></tei:choice>. And if it be made still more <tei:lb xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" xml:id="l27"/>soft &amp; malleable the wire-drawer may value it at two or three <tei:lb xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" xml:id="l28"/>shillings per <tei:choice xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0"><tei:abbr>lw<tei:hi rend="superscript">t</tei:hi></tei:abbr><tei:expan>pound weight</tei:expan></tei:choice> because of its fitness for his use. Tis the ductility <tei:lb xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" xml:id="l29"/>that makes it usefull &amp; the usefulness that sets a price upon it &amp; <tei:lb xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" xml:id="l30"/>the trial by hammering &amp; bending hot &amp; cold that determins the ducti<tei:lb xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" xml:id="l31"/>lity. This is the assay by which Refiners of Copper know when <tei:lb xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" xml:id="l32"/>their Copper is fully fine &amp; ready to vitrify &amp; by consequence the proper <tei:lb xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" xml:id="l33"/>assay for receiving fine copper into the Mint. For it determins the <tei:lb xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" xml:id="l34"/>fineness &amp; the malleability at once, no coarse copper being malleable.</p>
    
    <tei:p xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" xml:id="par5">By the estimates of Workmen the charges of repairing &amp; fitting <tei:lb xml:id="l35"/>up the houses in the Irish Mint for a coynage of copper, will amount <tei:lb xml:id="l36"/>to about 146<tei:hi rend="superscript"><tei:hi rend="overline">li</tei:hi></tei:hi>. And the putting up a furnace in the melting house <tei:lb xml:id="l37"/>with all things answerable for making an experiment by casting <tei:lb xml:id="l38"/>will cost about 32<tei:hi rend="superscript"><tei:hi rend="overline">li</tei:hi></tei:hi> more. And a small parcel of copper for making an <tei:lb xml:id="l39"/>experiment may cost about 20<tei:hi rend="superscript">li</tei:hi> more. If <tei:choice><tei:abbr>yo<tei:hi rend="superscript">r</tei:hi></tei:abbr><tei:expan>your</tei:expan></tei:choice> <tei:choice><tei:abbr>Lord<tei:hi rend="superscript">p</tei:hi></tei:abbr><tei:expan>Lordship</tei:expan></tei:choice> please to impress <tei:lb xml:id="l40"/>200<tei:hi rend="superscript"><tei:hi rend="overline">li</tei:hi></tei:hi> to me for this service <tei:add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">upon accompt</tei:add> it may be repaid out of the copper coynage</tei:p>
