<p rend="indent0" xml:id="par2">May it please <choice><abbr>yo<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>your</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>Lord<hi rend="superscript">ps</hi></abbr><expan>Lordships</expan></choice> <space dim="vertical" unit="lines" extent="1"/></p>
    
<p xml:id="par3">According to <choice><abbr>yo<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>your</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>Lord<hi rend="superscript">ps</hi></abbr><expan>Lordships</expan></choice> Order signified to us by M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> <lb xml:id="l2"/>Lowndes his Letter of 28 October last, We humbly lay before <lb xml:id="l3"/><choice><abbr>yo<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>your</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>Lord<hi rend="superscript">ps</hi></abbr><expan>Lordships</expan></choice> the following method of coyning copper money, viz<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></p>
    
<p xml:id="par4">That it be made of fine English Copper malleable <lb xml:id="l4"/>under the hammer without cracking when red hot. For such <lb xml:id="l5"/>Copper is free from mixture &amp; is of about the same degree <lb xml:id="l6"/>of fineness with the Swedish copper money &amp; with copper <lb xml:id="l7"/>vessels made at the battering mills.</p>
    
<p xml:id="par5">That such copper be made into Fillets or Barrs of a due <lb xml:id="l8"/>breadth &amp; thickness either at the battering mills or at the <lb xml:id="l9"/>drawing Mills &amp; be received at the Mint upon the Master &amp; <lb xml:id="l10"/>Workers Note expressing the weight thereof: &amp; that the Master <lb xml:id="l11"/>&amp; Worker upon delivering back to the Importer the same <lb xml:id="l12"/>weight <unclear reason="hand"><del type="over"><gap reason="over" unit="chars" extent="2"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">of</add></unclear> copper in Scissel &amp; Money together be discharged <lb xml:id="l13"/>of his Receipt; the Importer at the same time paying the <lb xml:id="l14"/>Master a certain seigniorage for bearing the charges of <lb xml:id="l15"/>the Mint &amp; Coynage, &amp; the Master &amp; Worker being account<lb xml:id="l16"/>able for the Seigniorage alone.</p>
    
<p xml:id="par6">The Fillets imported may be assayed by heating a few <lb xml:id="l17"/>of them <del type="cancelled"><unclear reason="del" cert="high">when</unclear></del> red hot at one end &amp; trying if they will <lb xml:id="l18"/>beare the hammer without cracking. The Assays may be <lb xml:id="l19"/>made by the Kings Assay-master or his Clerk or by the <lb xml:id="l20"/>Smith, &amp; all persons concerned may be present if they please.</p>
    
<p xml:id="par7">The moneys may be assayed before delivery in the <lb xml:id="l21"/>following manner. Let a Tunn of copper money (more or less) <lb xml:id="l22"/>be very well mixed together, &amp; at each of the four sides of <lb xml:id="l23"/>the heap let so much copper money be counted out for a <lb xml:id="l24"/>trial as should make a pound weight. And if each of the <lb xml:id="l25"/>parcells counted out, makes a pound weight without the <lb xml:id="l26"/>error of the weight of an halfpenny, &amp; one or two pieces <lb xml:id="l27"/>taken out of each parcel endures the assay by the hammer, <lb xml:id="l28"/>then the money to be deliverable; otherwise to be returned <lb xml:id="l29"/>to the Moneyers.</p>
    
<p xml:id="par8">If the said four parcells differ not in weight from one <lb xml:id="l30"/>another, above the weight of a farthing, the tale of the whol<supplied reason="copy">e</supplied> <lb xml:id="l31"/>Tunn to be estimated in proportion to its weight, as the tale <lb xml:id="l32"/>of all the four parcells is to their weight. And these four <lb xml:id="l33"/>assays with the weight &amp; tale of every Tunn of copper money <fw type="catch" place="bottomRight">to</fw><fw type="pag" place="bottomLeft" hand="#unknown">363</fw><fw type="pag" place="bottomRight" hand="#unknown1">33<hi rend="subscript">∟</hi>3</fw>to be entred in books. And if the money prove at any time <lb xml:id="l34"/>too light or too heavy, the weight may be corrected in the <del type="strikethrough">next</del> <lb xml:id="l35"/>coynage of the next copper imported, so as to make the whole <lb xml:id="l36"/>tale of all the copper money <del type="cancelled"><unclear reason="del" cert="medium">imported</unclear></del> beare a just proportion to <lb xml:id="l37"/>the weight.</p>
    
<p xml:id="par9">Two or more pieces of money may be taken out of every <lb xml:id="l38"/>Tunn &amp; put into a Pix &amp; tried yearly by such person or persons <lb xml:id="l39"/>as the Lord High Treasurer or Lords Commissioners of the Treasury <lb xml:id="l40"/>shall appoint.</p>

<p xml:id="par10">M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Thomas Eyres a Refiner of Copper proposes to make <lb xml:id="l41"/>&amp; size the fillets by a drawing Mill <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">for</add> fifteen pence per pound <lb xml:id="l42"/>weight of the blanks cut out of them, whenever the price of fine <lb xml:id="l43"/>copper in the market is no higher then at present, viz<hi rend="superscript">t</hi> 100<hi rend="superscript">li</hi> <choice><abbr>p<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>per</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l44"/>Tunn. And if a penny more be allowed to him for putting <lb xml:id="l45"/>away the copper money, &amp; four pence be added for seigniorag<supplied reason="copy">e</supplied> <lb xml:id="l46"/>the whole will be answered by cutting a pound weight of <lb xml:id="l47"/>copper into twenty pence. If the price of fine copper in the <lb xml:id="l48"/>market rises or falls, then the price of the fillets to rise or <lb xml:id="l49"/><del type="cancelled">&amp;</del>fall <del type="cancelled">in proportion</del> as much.</p>
    
<p xml:id="par11">Out of the Seigniorage the Master &amp; Worker may <lb xml:id="l50"/>have for himself the Graver &amp; Smith one penny per  <lb xml:id="l51"/>pound weight &amp; for the Moneyers two pence, &amp; the <lb xml:id="l52"/>remaining penny may be for bearing the charges of weigh<lb type="hyphenated" xml:id="l53"/>ing, assaying, entring in books, making a Controllment Roll <lb xml:id="l54"/>repairing the building buying coyning tools &amp; putting <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">the<add place="inline infralinear" indicator="no">m</add> <del type="strikethrough">buildings</del></add> into <lb xml:id="l55"/>repairs &amp; buying barrells boxes &amp; baggs to put the money <lb xml:id="l56"/>into, &amp;c.</p>
    
<p xml:id="par12">After the coyning tools are once put into repairs <lb xml:id="l57"/>the Moneyers are to keep them in repairs.</p>
    
<p xml:id="par13">M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Eyres hath not yet erected a drawing Mill <lb xml:id="l58"/>but proposes that he can do it &amp; be ready to deliver <lb xml:id="l59"/>Fillets of Copper within the space of two months</p>
    
<p xml:id="par14">The charge of making the Fillets at the Battering <lb xml:id="l60"/>Mills <add place="supralinear" indicator="no">&amp; sizing them</add> will be more then at the drawing Mills by three <lb xml:id="l61"/>half pence per pound weight of the blancks <add place="lineEnd interlinear infralinear" indicator="no">besides the charge <lb xml:id="l62"/>of erecting sizing Mills: <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> charges make us prefer the other method.</add></p>
    
<p xml:id="par15">The buildings in the Mint where the coynage is <lb xml:id="l63"/>to be performed are out of repairs.</p>
    
    <p xml:id="par16">The Proposalls of M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Eyres &amp; the Moneyers are <lb xml:id="l64"/>hereunto annexed. The Moneyers demand 1<formula><math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mfrac><mn>1</mn><mn>2</mn></mfrac></math></formula><tei:hi xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" rend="superscript">d</tei:hi> per <tei:choice xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0"><tei:abbr>Lw<tei:hi rend="superscript">t</tei:hi></tei:abbr><tei:expan>poundweight</tei:expan></tei:choice> <tei:lb xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" xml:id="l65"/>for coyining the Blancks, but in the reign of King Charles <tei:lb xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" xml:id="l66"/><tei:choice xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0"><tei:abbr>y<tei:hi rend="superscript">e</tei:hi></tei:abbr><tei:expan>the</tei:expan></tei:choice> 2<tei:hi xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" rend="superscript">d</tei:hi> had only 1<tei:hi xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" rend="superscript">d</tei:hi> per <tei:choice xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0"><tei:abbr>Lw<tei:hi rend="superscript">t</tei:hi></tei:abbr><tei:expan>poundweight</tei:expan></tei:choice>. M<tei:hi xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" rend="superscript">r</tei:hi> Eyres demands 7 per cent <tei:lb xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" xml:id="l67"/>for putting off the copper money, but is willing to abate so<tei:unclear xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" reason="hand"><tei:del type="over"><tei:gap reason="over" unit="chars" extent="1"/></tei:del><tei:add place="over" indicator="no">m</tei:add></tei:unclear>e <tei:lb xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" xml:id="l68"/>thing; &amp; we think 5 per cent, or 1<tei:hi xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" rend="superscript">d</tei:hi> per <tei:choice xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0"><tei:abbr>Lw<tei:hi rend="superscript">t</tei:hi></tei:abbr><tei:expan>poundweight</tei:expan></tei:choice> sufficient.</p>
