For <lb xml:id="l5"/>if the Tin were at 3<hi rend="superscript"><hi rend="overline">li</hi></hi> 16<hi rend="superscript">s</hi> upon the wharf <del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="2"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">&amp;</add> <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">at</add> 4<hi rend="superscript">li</hi> in the store <lb xml:id="l6"/>houses, the Pewterers would attend the wharf &amp; buy <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">there</add> at 3<hi rend="superscript"><hi rend="overline">li</hi></hi> 16<hi rend="superscript">s</hi> <lb xml:id="l7"/><add place="supralinear lineBeginning" indicator="yes">when the ships come in</add> &amp; the Merchants who do not attend the Wharf would <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">afterwards be</add> obliged to <del type="strikethrough">buy</del> <lb xml:id="l8"/><del type="cancelled"><unclear reason="del" cert="low">&amp;</unclear></del> buy of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Pe<del type="over">t</del><add place="over" indicator="no">w</add>terers at 4<hi rend="superscript"><hi rend="overline">li</hi></hi>. And <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">further</add> when the Pewterers have <lb xml:id="l9"/>sold their stick, they would <choice><sic>defer</sic><corr>deferr</corr></choice> <choice><sic>buing</sic><corr>buying</corr></choice> till the next ships <lb xml:id="l10"/>come in, <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> <del type="strikethrough">would</del><add place="supralinear" indicator="no">might</add> be as much a disadvantage to the sale of the <lb xml:id="l11"/>Tin as their buying beforehand would be an advantage. <add place="inline interlinear" indicator="no">All <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> being considered <lb xml:id="l12"/>we are humbly of opinion that if the price of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Tin be raised to 4<hi rend="superscript">li</hi> <choice><abbr>p<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>per</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>C</abbr><expan>cwt</expan></choice> upon the Wharf it be also raised <lb xml:id="l13"/>to 4<hi rend="superscript">li</hi> <choice><abbr>p<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>per</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>C</abbr><expan>cwt</expan></choice> in the storehouses so that <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> advantage of raising it may go to her <choice><abbr>Maj<hi rend="superscript">ty</hi></abbr><expan>Majesty</expan></choice> &amp; not to <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Pewterers <lb xml:id="l14"/><del type="over">b</del><add place="over" indicator="no">B</add>ut we do not think it advisable to raise the price at all.</add></p>
    
    <p xml:id="par2"><del type="strikethrough">In the second year of this <del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="3"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">her</add> <choice><abbr>Ma<hi rend="superscript">ts</hi></abbr><expan>Majesty's</expan></choice> <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">present</add> contract for Tin we <unclear reason="del" cert="low">had</unclear></del> <lb xml:id="l15"/><add place="lineBeginning" indicator="no">For</add> the sale of the Tin in the two first years of the present <lb xml:id="l16"/>contract being very slow, <del type="cancelled"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="4"/></del> we had it <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes"><del type="strikethrough">then</del></add> under consideration <lb xml:id="l17"/><add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">at that time</add> whether <del type="strikethrough"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="3"/></del> the slowness of the sale might not be <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">in some measure</add> recompenced  <lb xml:id="l18"/>by raising the price. For it was represented to us with great con<lb xml:id="l19"/>fidence that <del type="strikethrough"><add place="inline" indicator="no">[</add>it might be done w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi>out danger from<add place="inline" indicator="no">]</add> the East <lb xml:id="l20"/>Indian Tin <del type="over">:</del><add place="over" indicator="no">[</add>that Tin<add place="inline" indicator="no">]</add> <del type="strikethrough">being</del><add place="supralinear" indicator="no"><del type="strikethrough">was</del></add></del><add place="supralinear" indicator="no">it might be done without danger of stocking the <del type="strikethrough">Market</del> forreign markets with East Indian Tin by <lb xml:id="l21"/>the Dutch, that Tin being <choice><sic>of</sic><corr type="noText"/></choice></add> of a bad sort of <del type="cancelled"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del> little in quantity <lb xml:id="l22"/>so that the Dutch could not bring much more of it from India <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">into Europe</add> then <lb xml:id="l23"/>they did already, <del type="strikethrough">there not being <del type="strikethrough">sufficien</del> enough for <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> uses of the Indies. <lb xml:id="l24"/>Hereupon we <del type="cancelled"><del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="4"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">made</add></del> made</del>  <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">And this representation was backt with a better <unclear reason="hand" cert="low">intended</unclear> to be writ by a Dutch <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes"><del type="strikethrough">East India</del></add> Merchant, <del type="strikethrough">who</del> who having <lb xml:id="l25"/>been concerned in East Indian Tin was better able to give us an account of it then our own Merchants <lb xml:id="l26"/>could do who trade not in that commodity. Vpon <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> we took time</add> <add place="supralinear" indicator="no">but upon making</add> <add place="inline" indicator="no">to</add> enquire into the nature &amp; quantity of East <lb xml:id="l27"/>Indian Tin <del type="strikethrough">&amp; finding</del><add place="supralinear" indicator="no">we found</add> that some of it was <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">very</add> <del type="strikethrough">bright &amp; good</del><add place="supralinear" indicator="no">good &amp; bright</add> &amp; fitter for <lb xml:id="l28"/>some uses then our own <del type="strikethrough">we were</del><add place="supralinear" indicator="no">Tin</add> &amp; that <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Dutch might have it <lb xml:id="l29"/>in as great a <choice><sic>quanty</sic><corr>quantity</corr></choice> as <del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="2"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">th</add>ey pleased, <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">&amp; thereupon</add> we came to a resolution <lb xml:id="l30"/>that <del type="cancelled"><choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> <unclear reason="hand" cert="low">Tin</unclear></del> it was not ad<del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="3"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">vis</add>able to raise the price of her <choice><abbr>Maj<hi rend="superscript">ts</hi></abbr><expan>Majestys</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l31"/>Tin, &amp; we have since met with no reasons to change <choice><abbr>o<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>our</expan></choice> opinion.</p>
    
    <p xml:id="par3">In the beginning of the present contract for Tin the Merchants had <lb xml:id="l32"/>stored the Markets ab<del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">r</add>oad &amp; the Pewterers had <del type="cancelled">p<gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="2"/></del> provided a stock of their <lb xml:id="l33"/>own <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> they suppl<del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">i</add>ed the Merchants <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">at home</add> above a year <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">&amp; a quarter</add> longer. And these <lb xml:id="l34"/>things made her <choice><abbr>Maj<hi rend="superscript">ties</hi></abbr><expan>Majesties</expan></choice> Tin sell very slowly during the two first years <lb xml:id="l35"/>of the contract, so that <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">at Christmas</add> in the end of those two years there remained in the <lb xml:id="l36"/>Tower <space dim="horizontal" unit="chars" extent="8"/> Tunns of Tin stannary weight. In the end of the third year <lb xml:id="l37"/>there remain<del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">e</add>d in the Tower <space dim="horizontal" unit="chars" extent="8"/> Tunns. In <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> end of the fourth year <lb xml:id="l38"/><choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> was last Christmas, there remained <space dim="horizontal" unit="chars" extent="8"/> Tuns. And at present there <lb xml:id="l39"/><del type="cancelled"><unclear reason="del" cert="low">is</unclear></del> <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">remains</add> a<del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="2"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">bo</add>ut <space dim="horizontal" unit="chars" extent="8"/> <del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">T</add>unns <del type="strikethrough">remaining in the Tower</del> whereof we expect that about <lb xml:id="l40"/><space dim="horizontal" unit="chars" extent="6"/> or <space dim="horizontal" unit="chars" extent="8"/> Tunns will be shop of f<del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="3"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">or</add> the Straits within a few days. <lb xml:id="l41"/><del type="strikethrough">And when the war w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi> France sh</del> so that the consumption has been continually <lb xml:id="l42"/>upon the improvement <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">&amp; the quantity remaining in the Tower has increased but little during the two last years</add>. And when the present war with France ceases we exprest <lb xml:id="l43"/>that the quantity remaining in the Tower will decrease provided the Merchants <lb xml:id="l44"/>be not amused &amp; dissatisfied by <del type="strikethrough">raising</del><add place="supralinear" indicator="no">altering</add> the price</p>
