Petition of the tin mine owners of Devon and Cornwall to the Warden of the Stannaries, suggesting a 'Convocation or Parliament of Tynners' to arrange a renewal of their contract with the Crown, hopefully with an increase in the amount contracted for.</p>
<p>(b) 9 November 1709. Treasury to Mint. Holograph copy. Referral of the above to the Mint officers' consideration.</p>
<p>(c) 16 November 1709. Mint to Treasurer. Holograph draft reply to the above. Summary of tin trade to date and calculation of terms on which the Queen might renew the contract without losing money on the deal. Warns that she already buys considerably more tin from Devon and Cornwall than she can possibly sell, except at a loss.</p>

    <p xml:id="par2">We the Gentlemen owners of Tyn Lands &amp; Tyn bounds adventurers for Tyn <lb xml:id="l2"/>&amp; others concerned in that Commodity in the County of Cornwall</p>
    <p xml:id="par3">Humbly shew</p>
    <p rend="indent10" xml:id="par4">That we cannot but with the utmost gratitude contemplate <lb xml:id="l3"/>Her <choice><abbr>Maj<hi rend="superscript">ts</hi></abbr><expan>Majestys</expan></choice> goodness to us in making &amp; performing the present contract for our <lb xml:id="l4"/>Tyn. And being sensible now the said contract is so neare expiring, of the ill <lb xml:id="l5"/>consequences that may ensue to her <choice><abbr>Ma<hi rend="superscript">ty</hi></abbr><expan>Majesty</expan></choice> &amp; <choice><abbr>o<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>our</expan></choice> selves by its determination before <lb xml:id="l6"/>the commencement of another, take this opportunity to apply to <choice><abbr>yo<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>your</expan></choice> Honour <lb xml:id="l7"/>praying</p>

<p xml:id="par8">My Lord Treasurer Commands me to transmit to you the inclosed <lb xml:id="l15"/>Memorial of the Tynners in Cornwall, which his <choice><abbr>Lord<hi rend="superscript">p</hi></abbr><expan>Lordship</expan></choice> has lately received <lb xml:id="l16"/>from the Lord Warden of the stannarys. My Lord directs you to peruse <lb xml:id="l17"/>the same &amp; report to his <choice><abbr>Lord<hi rend="superscript">p</hi></abbr><expan>Lordship</expan></choice> what you think fit to be considered in <lb xml:id="l18"/>any future contract made with the Tynners, if her <choice><abbr>Maj<hi rend="superscript">ty</hi></abbr><expan>Majesty</expan></choice> should so <lb xml:id="l19"/>think fit to direct particularly as to the Quantity to be taken and the <lb xml:id="l20"/>price to be paid for the same, so that her <choice><abbr>Ma<hi rend="superscript">ty</hi></abbr><expan>Majesty</expan></choice> should so <lb xml:id="l21"/>think fit to direct particularly as to the Quantity to be taken and the <lb xml:id="l22"/>price to be paid for the same, so that her <choice><abbr>Ma<hi rend="superscript">ty</hi></abbr><expan>Majesty</expan></choice> may not be a <lb xml:id="l23"/>looser thereby.</p>

<p xml:id="par13">In Obedience to <choice><abbr>yo<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>your</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>Lord<hi rend="superscript">ps</hi></abbr><expan>Lordships</expan></choice> Orders of the 9<hi rend="superscript">th</hi> Instant &amp;c We <lb xml:id="l25"/>humbly represent to <choice><abbr>yo<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>your</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>Lord<hi rend="superscript">p</hi></abbr><expan>Lordship</expan></choice> that by the course of the sale of the Tyn <lb xml:id="l26"/>this &amp; the four last years there has been sold in Cornwall &amp; London <lb xml:id="l27"/>at a Medium about 1560 Tunns per an stannary <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>weight</expan></choice>. Which being <lb xml:id="l28"/>deducted from 1600 Tunns received annually from Cornwall, &amp; allowing <lb xml:id="l29"/>40 Tunns more for Devonshire, there has remained about 80 Tunns <lb xml:id="l30"/>yearly unsold: So that 1520 Tunns of Cornish Tynn has been sold <lb xml:id="l31"/>yearly, more or less. And if the same course of <del type="cancelled"><unclear reason="del" cert="medium">Ty</unclear></del> sale continues, there <lb xml:id="l32"/>will remain at the end of the present contract, so much Tyn unsold, as <lb xml:id="l33"/>at the Rate of 3<hi rend="superscript">li</hi>. 16<hi rend="superscript">s</hi> per hundred Averdupois will produce about <lb xml:id="l34"/>180000<hi rend="superscript"><hi rend="overline">li</hi></hi>. And so long as the same course of sale continues, if six <lb xml:id="l35"/><choice><abbr>p<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>per</expan></choice> cent (the interest of the moneys now advanced to the owners of the <lb xml:id="l36"/>Tyn lands) be allowed upon the said dead stock of 180000<hi rend="superscript"><hi rend="overline">li</hi></hi>, &amp; the <lb xml:id="l37"/>Coynage duty &amp; post groats be paid &amp; 1400<hi rend="superscript"><hi rend="overline">li</hi></hi> be accounted sufficient <lb xml:id="l38"/>to answer accidents &amp; unforeseen charges; her <choice><abbr>Ma<hi rend="superscript">ty</hi></abbr><expan>Majesty</expan></choice> <del type="over"><gap reason="over" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">m</add>ay without losing <lb xml:id="l39"/>by the contract, give 3<hi rend="superscript">l</hi>. 9<hi rend="superscript">s</hi>. 6<hi rend="superscript">d</hi> per hundred stannary <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>weight</expan></choice> for 1520 Tunns of <lb xml:id="l40"/>Tynn the quantity annually consumed, as will by the following <choice><abbr>Acco<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Account</expan></choice></p>

    <p rend="indent0" xml:id="par14">And if it be supposed that the consumption may carry off annually 1600 or <lb xml:id="l41"/>1800 Tunns stannary, it will appear by the like recconing upon that supposition,

But every 100 Tunns <lb xml:id="l43"/>purchased above what <del type="strikethrough">will</del> the consumption will carry off, makes a dead <lb xml:id="l44"/>stock annually increasing, the interest of which at 6 <choice><abbr>p<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>per</expan></choice> cent will in the <lb xml:id="l45"/>end of seven years will amount to about 10000<hi rend="superscript"><hi rend="overline">li</hi></hi><hi rend="superscript">*</hi> <addSpan spanTo="#addend487v-01" place="p487v-lower" startDescription="lower down f 487v" endDescription="higher up f 487v" resp="#mjh"/>* &amp; the loss by falling of the price of the Tyn at the end of <lb xml:id="l46"/>the contract will amount unto about 18 or 20 thousand pounds more<anchor xml:id="addend487v-01"/></p>
