                <p xml:id="par3">In obedience to <choice><abbr>yo<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>your</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>Lord<hi rend="superscript">ps</hi></abbr><expan>Lordships</expan></choice> Order of <del type="cancelled"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del> Iune <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">17<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></add> instant, upon the Petition <lb xml:id="l1"/>of D<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Iustus Brandshagen, directing me to state the accounts of the Doctor &amp; <lb xml:id="l2"/><add place="lineBeginning supralinear" indicator="yes">those</add> of Thomas Hamilton &amp; <choice><orig>I</orig><reg>J</reg></choice>ames Hamilton in relation to <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>Sir</expan></choice> <choice><orig>I</orig><reg>J</reg></choice>ohn Ereskins Mine: <lb xml:id="l3"/>I humbly represent that by the Warrant of his Royal Highness the Doctor <lb xml:id="l4"/>was allowed 60<hi rend="superscript"><hi rend="overline">li</hi></hi> &amp; <choice><orig>I</orig><reg>J</reg></choice>ames Hamilton 30<hi rend="superscript"><hi rend="overline">li</hi></hi> to enable the D<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> to provide some <lb xml:id="l5"/>things &amp; both of them to go down into Scotland to examin the said Mine; &amp; <lb xml:id="l6"/>after their arrival at Edinburgh the Doctor was to be allowed 20<hi rend="superscript">s</hi> per day <lb xml:id="l7"/>&amp; <choice><orig>I</orig><reg>J</reg></choice>ames Hamilton 10<hi rend="superscript">s</hi> per day by the same Warrant during their stay in <lb xml:id="l8"/>Scotland upon the said work, or so long as <choice><abbr>yo<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>your</expan></choice> Lordships should see cause to <lb xml:id="l9"/>pay the said allowances. And that Thomas Hamilton was afterwards by a <lb xml:id="l10"/>Warrant of the Lord Commissioners of the Treasury allowed also 30<hi rend="superscript"><hi rend="overline">li</hi></hi> <lb xml:id="l11"/>&amp; had a verbal promise, as I am informed, to have the same allowance <lb xml:id="l12"/>with his brother of 10<hi rend="superscript">s</hi> per day. And that the two Hamiltons arrived at <lb xml:id="l13"/>Edinburgh Sept 14 &amp; the Doctor Octob. 13<hi rend="superscript">th</hi> last, &amp; the Doctor &amp; Tho Hamilton <lb xml:id="l14"/>left Edinburgh Feb 19<hi rend="superscript">th</hi> following to return into England, but <choice><orig>I</orig><reg>J</reg></choice>ames Hamilton <lb xml:id="l15"/>went to Allowa to watch the Mine &amp; see that no O<unclear reason="hand"><del type="over"><gap reason="over" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">r</add></unclear>e be dug &amp; carried away.</p>
                
                <p xml:id="par4">By the said Warrant therefore the Doctor is to receive 129<hi rend="superscript"><hi rend="overline">li</hi></hi> for 129 <lb xml:id="l16"/>days, besides 44<hi rend="superscript"><hi rend="overline">li</hi></hi>. 13<hi rend="superscript">s</hi>. 6<hi rend="superscript">d</hi> paid by him to the two Hamiltons, &amp; besides the charges <lb xml:id="l17"/>he hath been at in clearing the Mine of rubbish, &amp; providing iron tools for <lb xml:id="l18"/>the labourers &amp; timber to prop &amp; secure the Mine, amounting to <unclear reason="hand"><del type="over"><gap reason="over" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">8</add></unclear><hi rend="superscript">li</hi>. 12<hi rend="superscript">s</hi>. 0<hi rend="superscript">d</hi>; &amp; besides <lb xml:id="l19"/>his further ch<unclear reason="hand"><del type="over"><gap reason="over" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">a</add></unclear>rge of fitting up a Laboratory with Furnaces, an Assay Table, <lb xml:id="l20"/>Mortars, Sives, Charcoal, Pit-coal, Nitre, &amp; other things necessary for making <lb xml:id="l21"/>the Assays, amounting to about 10<hi rend="superscript"><hi rend="overline">li</hi></hi>, &amp; his charge of seven faire copies of the <lb xml:id="l22"/>Report on large paper for <choice><abbr>yo<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>your</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>Lord<hi rend="superscript">ps</hi></abbr><expan>Lordships</expan></choice> &amp; others concerned &amp; of providing baggs &amp; <lb xml:id="l23"/>boxes for the Ore, amounting to 6<hi rend="superscript"><hi rend="overline">li</hi></hi> 8<hi rend="superscript">s</hi>. 0<hi rend="superscript">d</hi>. All which summs amount unto ~ 199<hi rend="superscript"><hi rend="overline">li</hi></hi>. 3<hi rend="superscript">s</hi>. 6<hi rend="superscript">d</hi>, whereof he hath received 150<hi rend="superscript">li</hi>. And so there remains due to him <lb xml:id="l24"/>49<hi rend="superscript"><hi rend="overline">li</hi></hi> 3<hi rend="superscript">s</hi>. 6<hi rend="superscript">d</hi>.</p>
                
                <p xml:id="par5">By the same Warrant <choice><orig>I</orig><reg>J</reg></choice>ames Hamilton is to receive 79<hi rend="superscript"><hi rend="overline">li</hi></hi> for 158 days, <lb xml:id="l25"/>whereof he hath received of the Doctor 21<hi rend="superscript"><hi rend="overline">li</hi></hi>. 13<hi rend="superscript">s</hi>. 3<hi rend="superscript">d</hi>. And there remains due <lb xml:id="l26"/>to him 5<unclear reason="hand"><del type="over"><gap reason="over" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">7</add></unclear><hi rend="superscript">li</hi> 9<hi rend="superscript">s</hi> 9<hi rend="superscript">d</hi>.</p>
                
                <p xml:id="par6">And if Tho. Hamilton be allowed equally with his brother (for he <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">went down upon that supposition <lb xml:id="l27"/>&amp;</add> was the <lb xml:id="l28"/>most serviceable man of the three) there will be 79<hi rend="superscript"><hi rend="overline">li</hi></hi> due to him on that account <lb xml:id="l29"/>whereof he hath received of the D<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> 23<hi rend="superscript"><hi rend="overline">li</hi></hi>. 3<hi rend="superscript">s</hi>. 3<hi rend="superscript">d</hi>. And so there will remain due to <lb xml:id="l30"/>him 55<hi rend="superscript"><hi rend="overline">li</hi></hi>. 16<hi rend="superscript">s</hi>. 9<hi rend="superscript">d</hi>.</p>
                
                <p xml:id="par7">The total due to all three is 162<hi rend="superscript"><hi rend="overline">li</hi></hi>. 10<hi rend="superscript">s</hi>. 00<hi rend="superscript">d</hi>, besides what <choice><abbr>yo<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>your</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>Lord<hi rend="superscript">ps</hi></abbr><expan>Lordships</expan></choice> shall <lb xml:id="l31"/>think fit to allow to <choice><orig>I</orig><reg>J</reg></choice>ames Hamilton for his attendance at the Mine ever <lb xml:id="l32"/>since Feb. 19<hi rend="superscript">th</hi> to see that no O<del type="over"><gap reason="over" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">r</add>e<del type="cancelled"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del> be dug &amp; caried away, untill he be <lb xml:id="l33"/>disch<unclear reason="hand"><del type="over"><gap reason="over" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">1</add></unclear>rged.</p>
