<p rend="indent0" xml:id="par2">May it please <choice><abbr>yo<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>your</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>Lord<hi rend="superscript">p</hi></abbr><expan>Lordship</expan></choice> <space dim="vertical" unit="lines" extent="2"/></p>
    
<p xml:id="par3">In obedience to <choice><abbr>yo<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>your</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>Lord<hi rend="superscript">ps</hi></abbr><expan>Lordships</expan></choice> Order of Reference upon the Bills of <lb xml:id="l2"/>M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Rob<hi rend="superscript">t</hi> Weddel for prosecuting coyners during the space of nineteen <lb xml:id="l3"/>months ending last Christmas was a twelve-month, &amp; upon the Memorial <lb xml:id="l4"/>of the Warden of the Mint concerning the same: We have considered the <lb xml:id="l5"/>services alledged to be done &amp; examined the reasonableness of the said <lb xml:id="l6"/>Bills, &amp; humbly represent to <choice><abbr>yo<hi rend="superscript">R</hi></abbr><expan>your</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>Lord<hi rend="superscript">p</hi></abbr><expan>Lordship</expan></choice> that the services so far as We <lb xml:id="l7"/>can find, were done; &amp; allowing to M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Weddel for travelling <supplied reason="damage">charges</supplied> <lb xml:id="l8"/>6<hi rend="superscript">d</hi> per mile, 2<hi rend="superscript">s</hi> per post stage &amp; 15<hi rend="superscript">s</hi> per day abroad (as was <del type="strikethrough"><supplied reason="damage" source="Mint 19/1/473">allowed</supplied></del><add place="supralinear" indicator="no"><supplied reason="damage" source="Newton Correspondence">setled</supplied></add> <lb xml:id="l9"/>by the late Lord Treasurer &amp; <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">allowed also</add> by the late Lords Commissioners of the <choice><abbr>Tr<hi rend="overline">eary</hi></abbr><expan>Treasury</expan></choice>) <lb xml:id="l10"/>&amp; to the men who assisted him in apprehending &amp; prosecuting criminals, <lb xml:id="l11"/>6<hi rend="superscript">s</hi> 6<hi rend="superscript">d</hi> per day for each man &amp; horse during their journeys: the travelling <lb xml:id="l12"/>charges amount unto 186<hi rend="superscript">li</hi>. 12<hi rend="superscript">s</hi>. 6<hi rend="superscript">d</hi>, <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Weddels salary, a <lb xml:id="l13"/>Bill of M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Fords, the fees of receiving the money allowed upon <lb xml:id="l14"/>the last account, &amp; the charges of a law suit <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> a coyner upon the <lb xml:id="l15"/>Privy Seal, make up the summ of 337<hi rend="superscript"><hi rend="overline">li</hi></hi>. 1<hi rend="superscript">s</hi>. 6<hi rend="superscript">d</hi>, <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> we humbly think <lb xml:id="l16"/>reasonable to be allowed.</p>
    
<p xml:id="par4">That there <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">are</add> other charges <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> admitt of no vouchers or <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">strickt</add> exami<lb xml:id="l17"/>nation, whereof the fees of Council &amp; other Court Charges upon the <lb xml:id="l18"/>trials of persons (viz<hi rend="superscript">t</hi> for <choice><abbr>Indictm<hi rend="superscript">ts</hi></abbr><expan>Indictments</expan></choice>, swearing of witnesses, attending <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l19"/>Records, &amp;c) amount unto 62<hi rend="superscript">li</hi>. 10<hi rend="superscript">s</hi>. And these charges being necessa<lb xml:id="l20"/>ry for carrying on the prosecutions, We are humbly of opinion that the <lb xml:id="l21"/>Prosecutors account of them, where nothing appears false or unreasonable, <lb xml:id="l22"/>s<add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">h</add>ould be accepted.</p>
    
<p xml:id="par5">And the maintainance of witnesses during their attendance on courts <lb xml:id="l23"/>of justice, &amp; pocket expenses in apprehending &amp; examining people <lb xml:id="l24"/>accused &amp; in attending on Iudges &amp; Iustices of the Peace &amp; paying for <lb xml:id="l25"/>their Warrants &amp; for stationery ware &amp; Post Letters, amount further to <lb xml:id="l26"/>about 68<hi rend="superscript"><hi rend="overline">li</hi></hi>. <space dim="vertical" unit="lines" extent="4"/></p>

    <p xml:id="par6">But considering that about one half of the money set down in <lb xml:id="l27"/>M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Weddels Account hath been advanced by him <del type="strikethrough">for car</del> without interest for <lb xml:id="l28"/>carrying on the prosecutions, &amp; that the charges of receiving the money due <lb xml:id="l29"/>upon th<del type="over">e</del><add place="over" indicator="no">i</add><add place="inline" indicator="no">s</add> <del type="cancelled">B<gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del> Account are not set down therein; both <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> may amount <lb xml:id="l30"/>to above 40<hi rend="superscript"><hi rend="overline">li</hi></hi>, &amp; that M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Weddel was a very good prosecutor &amp; if <lb xml:id="l31"/>prosecutors be discouraged they may be induced to pay themselves by <lb xml:id="l32"/>taking money for favouring or protecting coyners: We are humbly of <lb xml:id="l33"/>opinion that the Bills of M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Weddel amounting in the whole to <lb xml:id="l34"/>467<hi rend="superscript"><hi rend="overline">li</hi></hi>. 15<hi rend="superscript">s</hi>. 2<hi rend="superscript">d</hi>, be allowed.</p>
