                <p rend="center" xml:id="par1">The Deposi<choice><orig><hi rend="overline">c</hi></orig><reg>ti</reg></choice>on of Rebecca Berry the wife of Edward <lb xml:id="l1"/>Berry taken this 11<hi rend="superscript">th</hi>. day of aug<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>. 1698</p>
                
                <p rend="indent0" xml:id="par2">She sayth That <choice><abbr>abo<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>about</expan></choice> a year ago m<hi rend="superscript">r</hi>. Rob<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>. Lacy and his wife <lb xml:id="l2"/>Mary went into Wales with the Royall Oak Lottery by a Pattent <lb xml:id="l3"/>which they had for it in 4 Counties and at their returns they <lb xml:id="l4"/>both and their servant Thomas Read told the <choice><abbr>Inform<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>Informant</expan></choice> severall <lb xml:id="l5"/>tymes <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">h</hi>.</abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> had passed there an <choice><orig>ꝑ</orig><reg>par</reg></choice>ticularly how they coyned money <lb xml:id="l6"/>there to put off and that the Spaud with which they cast it <lb xml:id="l7"/>was very fine and how they could have made much more but <lb xml:id="l8"/>that the woman of the house where they lodged was very prying <lb xml:id="l9"/>and inquisitive and how at length the people began to <lb xml:id="l10"/>suspect that they made Counterfeit money, and how M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> <lb xml:id="l11"/><unclear reason="hand" cert="high">Irelon</unclear> sent down to the Mayor of Carmarthen before <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l12"/>Condemna<choice><orig><hi rend="overline">c</hi></orig><reg>ti</reg></choice>on of I Gregory to let him know <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> Lacy's <lb xml:id="l13"/>wife was taken in putting off Counterfeit money, and thereupon <lb xml:id="l14"/>the Mayor of Carmarthen putt the said Lacy into prison <lb xml:id="l15"/>till the assizes <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">n</hi>.</abbr><expan>when</expan></choice> he was acquitted And how afterwards <lb xml:id="l16"/>they went down togeather into Wales as is above men<choice><orig><hi rend="overline">c</hi></orig><reg>ti</reg></choice>oned untill <lb xml:id="l17"/>they began to talk of their being Coyners and how they came away <lb xml:id="l18"/>and left the Oak and board <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">for <choice><orig><hi rend="overline">c</hi></orig><reg>ti</reg></choice>on Lottery</add> behind him. She sayth also <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>abo<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>about</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l19"/>a year and a half ago or above one Solomon Hewett workt in <lb xml:id="l20"/>Moorfields for the said Mary Lacy as she hath heard <lb xml:id="l21"/>and there Mary Lacy learnt of him and while they <lb xml:id="l22"/>workt there the house was searcht and the Tooles taken <lb xml:id="l23"/>and Hewit fled and Mary Lacy was taken by Saker <lb xml:id="l24"/>in Bedd with <choice><abbr>abo<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>about</expan></choice> 4<hi rend="superscript"><hi rend="overline">ll</hi></hi>. Counterfeit money in Bed <lb xml:id="l25"/>with her, And that by the means of Dun and S<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>. <lb xml:id="l26"/>Leger she was made an Evidence and acccused the said <lb xml:id="l27"/>Solomon Hewet and his brother David <lb xml:id="l28"/>Hewet and David's wife and Sarah

                    Adams the M<hi rend="superscript">rs</hi>. of Solomon Hewet but none of them were taken as <lb xml:id="l29"/>Solomon Hewett who made his escape. And that she hath heard <unclear reason="damage" cert="high"><choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice></unclear> <lb xml:id="l30"/>Ioseph Brooker taught Solomon Hewet to coyn. She saith also tha<supplied reason="damage">t</supplied> <lb xml:id="l31"/>last spring the said Lacy and his wife took a house (as she thinks) in <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript"><supplied reason="damage">e</supplied></hi></abbr><expan>th<supplied reason="damage">e</supplied></expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l32"/>City For coyning but the woman of the house dyeing they did not go into <lb xml:id="l33"/>that house. She saith that they dessigned to coyn <choice><sic>Gineas</sic><corr>Guineas</corr></choice> in that ho<supplied reason="damage">use</supplied> <lb xml:id="l34"/>but being <choice><sic>dissapointed</sic><corr>disappointed</corr></choice> by the death of the woman of that house the said <lb xml:id="l35"/>Lacy afterwards tryed in another house to coyn <choice><sic>Gineas</sic><corr>Guineas</corr></choice> of Copper wy<gap reason="damage" unit="chars" extent="2"/> <lb xml:id="l36"/>but could not make it run and then sent the <choice><abbr>Depon<hi rend="superscript">ts</hi>.</abbr><expan>Deponents</expan></choice> Husband to <unclear reason="damage" cert="medium">Ke</unclear><supplied reason="damage" cert="medium">yes</supplied> <lb xml:id="l37"/>to get <choice><abbr>ym</abbr><expan>them</expan></choice> done, and thereupon Keyes got <choice><orig>I</orig><reg>J</reg></choice>ohn Smith to make them <lb xml:id="l38"/>She sayth also that <choice><abbr>abo<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>about</expan></choice> 3 months ago Thomas Read the servant of M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Lacy <lb xml:id="l39"/>brought to the <choice><abbr>Depon<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>Deponent</expan></choice> 6 shillings in counterfeit Mill'd shillings made <lb xml:id="l40"/>of block Tinn, and not long after M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi>. Lacy above men<choice><orig><hi rend="overline">c</hi></orig><reg>ti</reg></choice>oned brought to <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript"><supplied reason="damage">e</supplied></hi></abbr><expan>th<supplied reason="damage">e</supplied></expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l41"/><choice><abbr>Depon<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>Deponent</expan></choice> six shillings more in like shillings and sixpences. Some of <lb xml:id="l42"/>which are now produced by the <choice><abbr>Depon<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>Deponent</expan></choice> she saith also that she <lb xml:id="l43"/>heard M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi>. Lacy say that he had order<choice><orig><hi rend="superscript">d</hi></orig><reg>ed</reg></choice> Thomas Read to <lb xml:id="l44"/>make no more of that money, and that the Tools were all remove<supplied reason="damage">d</supplied> <lb xml:id="l45"/>away but a <choice><sic>litle</sic><corr>little</corr></choice> pair of Flasks which he had left <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> Mrs Read</p>
