                <p rend="indent15" xml:id="par1"><add place="marginLeft" indicator="no"><hi rend="overline">Middx</hi> Ss</add> The <choice><abbr>Examin<hi rend="overline">aio</hi>n</abbr><expan>Examination</expan></choice> of <persName>James Mace</persName> of <placeName>St. Martins <lb xml:id="l1"/>Street near Leicester feilds</placeName> taken <date>Janrij 21. 1700</date>

                <p xml:id="par2">This Examinant being duely <choice><abbr>Ex<hi rend="overline">aied</hi>d</abbr><expan>Examined</expan></choice> saith &amp; Confesseth that <lb xml:id="l2"/>about 14. months agoe, he came from <placeName>France</placeName> into <placeName>England</placeName>, <lb xml:id="l3"/>in order to Embrace the Protestant Religion <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> accordingly he has <lb xml:id="l4"/>done, And about 6. months Since he became acquainted <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> one <persName>Mazey</persName> <lb xml:id="l5"/>who keeps a Coffee house in <placeName>George Inn in <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Strand</placeName>, And after <lb xml:id="l6"/>some little acquaintance, he gave him a false &amp; Counterfeit <lb xml:id="l7"/>pistole to change for him, <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> he refused to change, and return'd <lb xml:id="l8"/>the same back again to the said <persName>Maizey</persName>, And after <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> becoming <lb xml:id="l9"/>very familiar togeather, the said <persName>Maizey</persName> carryed this Examinant <lb xml:id="l10"/>up 3. pair of Staires, and Shew'd him his work roome, where he did <lb xml:id="l11"/>see the said <persName>Maizey</persName> make severall peices, of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> English Stamps or <lb xml:id="l12"/>Coyn as also Severall out-Landish counterfeit peices of Money of <lb xml:id="l13"/>the coyns of France and Spaine, And afterwards <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> said <persName>Maizey</persName> <lb xml:id="l14"/>and he this <choice><abbr>Exam.<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Examinant</expan></choice> did endeavour to put off one this day and <lb xml:id="l15"/>never before, And further saith, that he haveing but some <lb xml:id="l16"/>Money to the said <persName>Maizey</persName> to <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> vallue of 3. Huineas he <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Said</expan></choice> <persName>Maizey</persName> <lb xml:id="l17"/>left in his hands as a Security, the Severall peices of false &amp; <lb xml:id="l18"/><supplied reason="omitted" cert="medium">Counterfeit</supplied> coyn now produced and taken in his Lodgings alleageing that <lb xml:id="l19"/>they were halfe Gold. <space dim="horizontal" unit="chars" extent="15"/><hi rend="large"><persName>J Mace</persName></hi> <lb xml:id="l20"/><foreign xml:lang="lat">Cap.<hi rend="superscript">t</hi> coram me</foreign> <lb xml:id="l21"/><persName>Jos.
