                <p rend="indent10" xml:id="par1"><add place="marginLeft" indicator="no">Com Lancast<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Ss.</add>The <choice><abbr>Inform<hi rend="overline">aio</hi>n</abbr><expan>Information</expan></choice> of <persName>Christopher Emmerson <choice><abbr><hi rend="overline">als</hi></abbr><expan>alias</expan></choice> Burrows</persName> taken <lb xml:id="l1"/> upon Oath before <persName>Cha: Rigby</persName> <choice><abbr>Esq<hi rend="superscript">r</hi>.</abbr><expan>Esquire</expan></choice> &amp;c.<hi rend="superscript">t</hi> <date>May 15.<hi rend="superscript">th</hi> 1704.</date></p>
                <p rend="indent0" xml:id="par2">Who Informeth and saith <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> about 6. or 7. Years agoe this Informant <lb xml:id="l2"/>became acquainted with <persName>Edw.<hi rend="superscript">d</hi> Yeats</persName> of <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes"><placeName>Lock</placeName> in</add> this County Stapler, <persName>Humphrey Henman</persName> <lb xml:id="l3"/>and <persName>W<hi rend="overline">illm</hi> Thomson</persName> Smith of the same place Shortly after which this <lb xml:id="l4"/><choice><abbr>Depon.<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Deponent</expan></choice> was imploy'd by them from <choice><abbr>Mich<hi rend="overline">h</hi>mas</abbr><expan>Michaelmas</expan></choice> till Midsum̄er following in <lb xml:id="l5"/>casting counterfeit Crowns halfe Crownes &amp; shillings, <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> this <choice><abbr>Inform:<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Informant</expan></choice> cast in <lb xml:id="l6"/>the p<hi rend="superscript">re</hi>sence of and with the Assistance of the 3. persons beforenamed <lb xml:id="l7"/>in very considerable summs, to the vallue of 5.<hi rend="superscript">£</hi> or more sometimes <lb xml:id="l8"/>in a day, in the whole to a very great summ, all in the similitude of <lb xml:id="l9"/><choice><sic>of</sic><corr type="noText"/></choice> the then new coyn'd Mill'd mony, <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> they the <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Said</expan></choice> <persName>Yeates</persName> <persName>Henman</persName> &amp; <lb xml:id="l10"/><persName>Thompson</persName>, put of at <placeName>Kirkby Launsdale Market in Com Westm.<hi rend="superscript">er</hi></placeName> and other places very currently, as they frequently told this <choice><abbr>Inform:<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Informant</expan></choice> but about <choice><abbr>Midsum<hi rend="superscript">er</hi></abbr><expan>Midsummer</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l11"/>after this <choice><abbr>Inform:<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Informant</expan></choice> being chased from <placeName>Lock</placeName> by M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Justice <persName>Wilson</persName>, he went <lb xml:id="l12"/><choice><sic>he went</sic><corr type="noText"/></choice> into the <placeName>Bishoprick of Durham</placeName>, to which Goale he was (about <lb xml:id="l13"/><choice><abbr>Mi<hi rend="overline">ch</hi>mas</abbr><expan>Michaelmas</expan></choice> after) com̄ited, and there lay untill the sum̄er Assizes then next <lb xml:id="l14"/>following when this <choice><abbr>Depon.<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Deponent</expan></choice> was discharged; and thence removeing to <placeName>Wigden <lb xml:id="l15"/>in Cumberland</placeName>, this Informant was suspected for conveying away a <lb xml:id="l16"/>Silver Tumbler, from the house of one <persName>W<hi rend="overline">ill</hi> Goldsmith</persName>, (<placeName>the sign of <lb xml:id="l17"/><choice><sic>of</sic><corr type="noText"/></choice> the halfe moon in Wigdon</placeName>) And on search of the same there were <lb xml:id="l18"/>found about this <choice><abbr>Inform:<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Informant</expan></choice><hi rend="superscript">s</hi> was com̄ited to <placeName>Carlisle Goale</placeName> by M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> <lb xml:id="l19"/>Justice <persName>Briscoe</persName>, where after he had layn a <choice><abbr>Prisn.<hi rend="superscript">er</hi></abbr><expan>prisoner</expan></choice> near two Years <lb xml:id="l20"/>he was discharged without any <choice><abbr>Indictm.<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Indictment</expan></choice> being found <choice><abbr>ag.<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>against</expan></choice> him, But <lb xml:id="l21"/>this <choice><abbr>Inform:<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Informant</expan></choice> can depose nothing that may be of Service to <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>Governm.<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Government</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l22"/>at any facts com̄ited either in <placeName>Durham</placeName> or <placeName>Cumberland.</placeName></p>
                <p xml:id="par3">From <placeName>Carlisle</placeName> this <choice><abbr>Inform:<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Informant</expan></choice> repaired to the house of <persName>Ric<hi rend="overline">hd</hi> Fleming</persName>, in <lb xml:id="l23"/>the <placeName>County of <choice><abbr>Westmor<hi rend="overline">ld</hi></abbr><expan>Westmorland</expan></choice></placeName> (who haveing before used the art of makeing Counter<lb type="hyphenated" xml:id="l24"/>feit money) this <choice><abbr>Inform:<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Informant</expan></choice> work'd with him <choice><abbr>ab.<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>about</expan></choice> a fortnight, and in that <lb xml:id="l25"/>time made for him (and Instructed him in casting) counterfeit Crown peices <lb xml:id="l26"/>and halfe Crowns: and being told that he this <choice><abbr>Inform:<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Informant</expan></choice> was discovered there, he fled into <lb xml:id="l27"/>the <placeName>County of Lancaster near penny bridge in Cartmell parish</placeName> where being <fw type="catch" place="bottomRight">app<hi rend="superscript">re</hi>hended</fw>
                    <pb xml:id="p001v" n="1v"/>app<hi rend="superscript">re</hi>hended was carryed before M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Justice <persName>Sandys</persName> &amp; by him com̄itted to <placeName>Lancast<hi rend="superscript">er</hi> Castle</placeName> <lb xml:id="l28"/>where being try'd there <date>last lent Assizes</date> was 3. Years for carrying away the <lb xml:id="l29"/>Coat of the <choice><abbr>afores<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>aforesaid</expan></choice> <persName>Richard Fleming</persName>, this <choice><abbr>Inform:<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Informant</expan></choice> was burnt in the Cheek for the <lb xml:id="l30"/>same and there upon discharged from <placeName>Lancaster Goale</placeName>, but dureing the <lb xml:id="l31"/>time of his <choice><abbr>confinem<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>confinement</expan></choice> in the <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Said</expan></choice> Goale one <persName>Anthony Richardson</persName> of <lb xml:id="l32"/><placeName>Wyersdale</placeName> in this County, brought unto this <choice><abbr>Inform:<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Informant</expan></choice> 2. broad Peices of <lb xml:id="l33"/>Copper coyn'd or stampt after the likeness of broad peices of Gold, (<choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> the <lb xml:id="l34"/><choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Said</expan></choice> <persName>Richardson</persName> said he made himself) desireing this <choice><abbr>Inform:<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Informant</expan></choice> to Gild them <lb xml:id="l35"/>for him, and for that purpose he left them with this <choice><abbr>Inform:<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Informant</expan></choice> but he <lb xml:id="l36"/>never came again for them. - This <choice><abbr>Inform:<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Informant</expan></choice> further saith that after <lb xml:id="l37"/>his discharge from <placeName>Lancaster Castle</placeName>, he went to <placeName>Fewley near Beedall in <lb xml:id="l38"/>Yorkshire</placeName>, where this <choice><abbr>Inform:<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Informant</expan></choice> lived for about one Year, and then was <lb xml:id="l39"/>again com̄ited to <placeName>York Goale</placeName>, and at <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> last sum̄er Assizes there, being <lb xml:id="l40"/>Indicted for a com̄on Cheat or some other misdemeanour, upon which <lb xml:id="l41"/>bein fined, this <choice><abbr>Inform:<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Informant</expan></choice> was continued in that prison, till <date>last Easter <lb xml:id="l42"/>Monday</date> - This <choice><abbr>Inform:<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Informant</expan></choice> further saith that on <date>Munday the 1.<hi rend="superscript">st</hi> of this <lb xml:id="l43"/>Instant may</date> he went to the house of <persName>Thomas Holt</persName> near <placeName>Whaley in <lb xml:id="l44"/>this County of Lancast.<hi rend="superscript">er</hi></placeName> whence the <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Said</expan></choice> <persName>Thomas Holt</persName> and <persName>Edward Holt</persName> <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> father <lb xml:id="l45"/>sent this Informant to the house of <persName>John Ryley</persName> a blacksmith about a <lb xml:id="l46"/>mile off, to make tooles to coyn and counterfeit money. this <choice><abbr>Inform:<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Informant</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l47"/>did there make Moulds for casting money (Viz) Crowns and halfe Crown <lb xml:id="l48"/>peices, and on <date>Thursday tje 4. of this Instant May</date> this Informant <lb xml:id="l49"/>did (in the p<hi rend="superscript">re</hi>sence of the <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Said</expan></choice> <persName>Thomas Holt</persName>, <persName>Edward Holt</persName> <persName>John Ryley and his <lb xml:id="l50"/>wife and Judith their Daughter</persName>, togeather with <persName>Samuel Fletcher</persName> &amp; <persName><hi rend="overline">Alexan <lb xml:id="l51"/>Fletcher</hi></persName> and with their Assistance) Actually cast and coyn the sum̄e <lb xml:id="l52"/>of 15.<hi rend="superscript">£</hi> of those counterfeit Crowns &amp; halfe Crowns: All which sum̄ the <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Said</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l53"/><persName>Thomas Holt</persName> tooke into his custody, in order to pay or put of the same <lb xml:id="l54"/>to a man near <placeName>settle in the County of York</placeName>, which he had by the consent <lb xml:id="l55"/>of the rest of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> company beforenamed, And on <date>fryday last</date> this <choice><abbr>Inform:<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Informant</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l56"/>carryed the <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Said</expan></choice> Coyning tooles (as namely) Six Iron hoopes fill'd <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> Lead &amp;
