Ss.</add> The <choice><abbr>Exai<hi rend="overline">aio</hi>n</abbr><expan>Examination</expan></choice> of <persName>John Ryley</persName> of <placeName>billington</placeName> in this County <lb xml:id="l1"/>Blacksmith taken <date>18.<hi rend="superscript">th</hi> day of may 1<del type="over">4</del><add place="over" indicator="no">7</add>04</date>.</p>
                <p rend="indent0" xml:id="par2">Who on <choice><abbr>Exai<hi rend="overline">aio</hi>n</abbr><expan>Examination</expan></choice> Saith that on <date>monday <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> first of this instant May</date> <lb xml:id="l2"/>he this <choice><abbr>E<hi rend="overline">xai.</hi><hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Examinant</expan></choice> being at the house of <choice><abbr><hi rend="overline">Willm</hi></abbr><expan>William</expan></choice> Winleys (an Alehouse in <placeName>Billington</placeName> <choice><abbr>afores<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>aforesaid</expan></choice> <note type="editorial">See Deposition No. 481.</note>) <lb xml:id="l3"/>there he light on a man who call'd himselfe <persName>Christoꝑ Emerson</persName>, and falling <lb xml:id="l4"/>into discourse with him over a pot of Ale, he told this <choice><abbr>Exam.<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Examinant</expan></choice> he was by trade <lb xml:id="l5"/>a Whitesmith, and could also make Clocks, and enquired how far <persName>Edward Holt</persName> <lb xml:id="l6"/>liv'd from thence (with whom he <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Said</expan></choice> he was acquainted) and <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Said</expan></choice> <persName>Emerson</persName> being <lb xml:id="l7"/>Shew'd the way to his house went that night thither, and the next morning <lb xml:id="l8"/>came to this <choice><abbr>Exam.<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Examinant</expan></choice><hi rend="superscript">s</hi> shop, and stay'd not long but went out to <placeName>Hinkleys <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Alehouse</placeName> <lb xml:id="l9"/>and in the afternoon came again to this <choice><abbr>Exam.<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Examinant</expan></choice><hi rend="superscript">s</hi> shop and then desired <lb xml:id="l10"/>this <choice><abbr>Exam.<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Examinant</expan></choice> to let him file an handvice <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> he <choice><abbr>bro.<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>brought</expan></choice> with him rough and <lb xml:id="l11"/>unfinished, <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> this <choice><abbr>Exam.<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Examinant</expan></choice> consented unto, and that night <persName>Emerson</persName>, wnet <lb xml:id="l12"/>back to <persName>Holt</persName>s house to lye, <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> is <choice><abbr>ab.<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>about</expan></choice> a mile from this <choice><abbr>Exam.<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Examinant</expan></choice><hi rend="superscript">s</hi> Shop, but that <lb xml:id="l13"/>he took part of this <choice><abbr>Exam.<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Examinant</expan></choice><hi rend="superscript">s</hi> dinner, <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> was a veale pye brought to this <lb xml:id="l14"/><choice><abbr>Exam.<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Examinant</expan></choice><hi rend="superscript">s</hi> Shopp, And on <date>wednesday</date> morning he came again unto this <choice><abbr>Exam.<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Examinant</expan></choice><hi rend="superscript">s</hi> <lb xml:id="l15"/>Shop, and continued working at his hand-vice, and that night lay at <lb xml:id="l16"/>this <choice><abbr>Exam.<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Examinant</expan></choice><hi rend="superscript">s</hi> house, as he did for 7.nights then next following viz.<hi rend="superscript">t</hi> till <lb xml:id="l17"/><date>thursday the 11.<hi rend="superscript">th</hi> instant</date>, in <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> time he was till <date>fryday morning <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> 5.<hi rend="superscript"/> <choice><abbr>inst.<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>instant</expan></choice></date> <lb xml:id="l18"/>working at his hand-vice, promissing that for <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> kindness and for meat <lb xml:id="l19"/>and loging he would make this <choice><abbr>Exam.<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Examinant</expan></choice> a clock if this <choice><abbr>Exam.<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Examinant</expan></choice> would but <lb xml:id="l20"/>send for some materialls to <placeName>Wiggon</placeName>. <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> he <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Said</expan></choice> this <choice><abbr>Exam.<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Examinant</expan></choice> might buy for 10<hi rend="superscript">s</hi> <lb xml:id="l21"/>and on <date>Fryday the 5<hi rend="superscript">th</hi> Instant</date>, the <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Said</expan></choice> <persName>Emerson</persName> (out of this <choice><abbr>Exam.<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Examinant</expan></choice><hi rend="superscript">s</hi> Iron) forged <lb xml:id="l22"/>Six hoops or rings in this <choice><abbr>Exam.<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Examinant</expan></choice><hi rend="superscript">s</hi> Shop, <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> he <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Said</expan></choice> were for some <choice><abbr>ꝑts</abbr><expan>parts</expan></choice> of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Clock <lb xml:id="l23"/>this <choice><abbr>Exam.<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Examinant</expan></choice> helping him to cut the same out of the barr of Iron, &amp; on <date>Thursday <lb xml:id="l24"/>the 11.<hi rend="superscript">th</hi> instant</date> the <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Said</expan></choice> <persName>Emerson</persName> took out of this <choice><abbr>Exam.<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Examinant</expan></choice><hi rend="superscript">s</hi> shop without this <choice><abbr>Exam.<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Examinant</expan></choice><hi rend="superscript">s</hi> <lb xml:id="l25"/>consent or knowledge the <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Said</expan></choice> Six hoops as also a melting pan or Iron of this <lb xml:id="l26"/><choice><abbr>Exam.<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Examinant</expan></choice><hi rend="superscript">s</hi> and from that time this <choice><abbr>Exam.<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Examinant</expan></choice> never saw <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Said</expan></choice> <persName>Emerson</persName>, till <date>last Tuesday</date> <lb xml:id="l27"/>that he came with a <choice><abbr>Warr.<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Warrant</expan></choice> in company of <persName>Henry Bracken</persName> and others to <lb xml:id="l28"/>apprehend this <choice><abbr>Exam.<hi                 <p xml:id="par3">This <choice><abbr>Exam.<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Examinant</expan></choice> denyeth <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> ever the <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Said</expan></choice> <persName>Emerson</persName> <choice><abbr>ꝑposed</abbr><expan>proposed</expan></choice> any thing to this <lb xml:id="l29"/><choice><abbr>Exam.<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Examinant</expan></choice> concerning coyning o makeing counterfeit money or any Tools <lb xml:id="l30"/>or <choice><abbr>Instrum.<hi rend="superscript">ts</hi></abbr><expan>Instruments</expan></choice> for that purpose nor never app<hi rend="superscript">re</hi>hended <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Said</expan></choice> Six hoops to be of <lb xml:id="l31"/>use, or intended to be used in or about makeing or casting money nor for <lb xml:id="l32"/>any other use than for the clock aforemention'd.</p>
                <p xml:id="par4">This <choice><abbr>Exam.<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Examinant</expan></choice> also denyeth that <persName>Edw.<hi rend="superscript">d</hi> Holt</persName> &amp; <persName>Tho.<hi rend="superscript">s</hi> Holt</persName> his son (whome this <lb xml:id="l33"/><choice><abbr>Exam.<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Examinant</expan></choice> doth very well know) or either of them, or <persName>Sam.<hi rend="superscript overline">ll</hi> Fletcher</persName> <persName>John Fletcher</persName> <lb xml:id="l34"/>or <persName>Alexand<hi rend="superscript">er</hi> Fletcher</persName> or any of them were ever at this <choice><abbr>Exam.<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Examinant</expan></choice><hi rend="superscript">s</hi> house as <choice><abbr>afores<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>aforesaid</expan></choice><note type="editorial">See Deposition No. 481.</note> but <lb xml:id="l35"/>beleives the <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Said</expan></choice> <persName>Fletchers</persName> might come sometimes to this <choice><abbr>Exam.<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Examinant</expan></choice><hi rend="superscript">s</hi> Shop (<choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l36"/>is halfe a mile distant from the house) whilst <persName>Emerson</persName> was working <lb xml:id="l37"/>in the shop, they the said <persName>Fletchers</persName> being Customers to this <choice><abbr>Exam.<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Examinant</expan></choice> in his <lb xml:id="l38"/>trade of a smith.
