The manner of the Tryall of the Pix.

His Majesty or his Councill appoints the time and place for yethe Tryall of yethe monys in yethe Pix: the time is usually about a month after 'tis ordered, & yethe Place in or near yethe Star chamber.

The Ld.Lord High Chancellr.our sends his Letter to the Wardens & Company of Goldsmiths to return, to returne him yethe names of an able Iury for that Tryall

The returne of yethe names being made to his LopLordship he sends his Warrant by his Serjeant at Arms, or Serjeants deputy to summon yethe Iury by their names, to meet at the time & place appointed for yethe Tryall.

On the day appointed, the Pix-boxes are brought and plac'd on a Table, about nine in yethe morning, by yethe care of the Officers of the Mint.

About tenn, the King if he pleases, & the Ld.Lord Chancelr.Chancellour & other Lds.Lords of the Councill appointed by yethe King, take their places at yethe table aforesaid, the Officer of the Mint, Exchequr.er & the Iury of Goldsmiths attending.

Then the Ld.Lord Chancellr.our calls to his Serjeant at Arms for his Warrant for summoning yethe Iury, & appoints the same to be deliverd to the Remembrancers deputy, who attends with a Copy of an Oath to be given to yethe Iury

The Pix-boxes are opened by yethe Officers of the Mint and yethe Gold & Silver monys therein poured upon the Table

Then the LdLord Chancelr.lour causeth the said Oath to be administred to the Iury: Which being done

The LdLord Treasurer or Lds.Lords Commissrs.ioners of the TreryTreasury or Chancellour of yethe Excheqruer appoint the standd.standard Troy weights, & the Indented tryall-pieces of His MajtysMajestys Crown Gold monys, & standd.standard sivler monys kept in the TreryTreasury of the Exchecqr.uer to be deliverd for yethe use of yethe Iury: And the Ld.Lord Chancellr.our examines yethe Tryall-pieces, by yethe like Indented tryall pieces, kept by yethe Warden of yethe Mint.

Then the Ld.Lord Chancellr.our or in his Absence yethe Chanclr.Chancellour of yethe Exchecqr.uer gives yethe Iury in charge to make tryall of yethe Gold & Silver monys in yethe Pix by yethe standds.standards of his MajtysMajestys TreryTreasury, according to yethe Rules sett-down in yethe Indenture of yethe Mint; which are to doe it carefull by fire, by water, by touch, or by weight, or by all, or by some of them, after yethe most just & exact manner that can be; it being a Business of a very publick concern.

Then the Ld.Lord Chancellr.our appoints yethe Iury, when & where to attend his Lop.Lordship wth.with their Verdict, And then he departs with yethe rest of yethe Lords.

When yethe Iury present their Verdict, the depty.deputy of the Remembrancer attends to read it, and keeps it, when tis read.
