                <p xml:id="par3">In obedience to <choice><abbr>yo<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>your</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>Lord<hi rend="superscript">ps</hi></abbr><expan>Lordships</expan></choice> Order of Iune 17<hi rend="superscript">th</hi> instant, upon the <lb xml:id="l1"/>Petition of D<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Iustus Brandshagen, directing me to state the accounts of the <lb xml:id="l2"/>Doctor &amp; those of Thomas &amp; <choice><orig>I</orig><reg>J</reg></choice>ames Hamilton in relation to <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>Sir</expan></choice> John Ereskin's <lb xml:id="l3"/>Mine: I humbly represent that by the Warrant of his Royal Highness <lb xml:id="l4"/>the Doctor was allowed 60<hi rend="superscript"><hi rend="overline">li</hi></hi> &amp; <choice><orig>I</orig><reg>J</reg></choice>ames Hamilton 30<hi rend="superscript"><hi rend="overline">li</hi></hi> to enable the Doctor <lb xml:id="l5"/>to provide some things in London &amp; both of them to go down into Scotland <lb xml:id="l6"/>to view &amp; examin the said Mine; &amp; after their arrival at Edinburgh <lb xml:id="l7"/>the D<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> was to be allowed 20<hi rend="superscript">s</hi> per day &amp; <choice><orig>I</orig><reg>J</reg></choice>ames Hamilton 10<hi rend="superscript">s</hi> per day <lb xml:id="l8"/>by the said Warrant during their stay in Scotland upon the said <lb xml:id="l9"/>work, or so long as your <choice><abbr>Lord<hi rend="superscript">ps</hi></abbr><expan>Lordships</expan></choice> should see cause to pay the said <lb xml:id="l10"/>allowances. And that Thomas Hamilton was afterwards by a Warrant of <lb xml:id="l11"/>the Lords <choice><abbr>Comm<hi rend="superscript">ers</hi></abbr><expan>Commissioners</expan></choice> of the Treasury allowed also 30<hi rend="superscript"><hi rend="overline">li</hi></hi> to go to Scotland with <lb xml:id="l12"/>his brother, &amp; had a verbal promise, as I was then informed, to have the same <lb xml:id="l13"/>allowance with his brother of 10<hi rend="superscript">s</hi> per day. And that the two Hamilton's <lb xml:id="l14"/>arrived at Edinburgh Sept 14<hi rend="superscript">th</hi> &amp; the Doctor Octob. 13<hi rend="superscript">th</hi> last, &amp; the <lb xml:id="l15"/>Doctor &amp; Thomas Hamilton left Edinburgh Feb. 19<hi rend="superscript">th</hi> following to return into <lb xml:id="l16"/>England, but <choice><orig>I</orig><reg>J</reg></choice>ames Hamilton went to <del type="cancelled">Edinb</del> Alloua to watch the Mine <lb xml:id="l17"/>&amp; see that no Ore be dug &amp; carried away</p>
                
                <p xml:id="par4">By the said Warrant therefore the Doctor is to receive 129<hi rend="superscript"><hi rend="overline">li</hi></hi> for 129 days <lb xml:id="l18"/>beside 44<hi rend="superscript"><hi rend="overline">li</hi></hi> 13<hi rend="superscript">s</hi> 6<hi rend="superscript">d</hi> paid by him to the two Hamiltons, &amp; besides the charges he <lb xml:id="l19"/>hath been at in clearing the Mine of rubbish, &amp; providing iron tools <lb xml:id="l20"/>for the labourers &amp; timber to prop &amp; secure the Mine, amounting to <lb xml:id="l21"/>8<hi rend="superscript"><hi rend="overline">li</hi></hi> 12<hi rend="superscript">s</hi>. 0<hi rend="superscript">d</hi>, &amp; besides his further charge of fitting up a Laboratory <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l22"/>furnaces, an Assay Table, Mortars, Sives, Charcoal, Pitcoal, Nitre &amp; <lb xml:id="l23"/>other things necessary for making the Assays, amounting to about 10<hi rend="superscript"><hi rend="overline">li</hi></hi>; <lb xml:id="l24"/>&amp; the charge of seven fair copies of the Report on large paper for <lb xml:id="l25"/><choice><abbr>yo<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>your</expan></choice> Lordships &amp; others concerned, &amp; of providing baggs &amp; boxes for the <lb xml:id="l26"/>Ore, amounting to 6<hi rend="superscript">li</hi>. 8<hi rend="superscript">s</hi>. 0<hi rend="superscript">d</hi>. All which summs amount unto 19<del type="over"><gap reason="over" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">9</add><hi rend="superscript">li</hi>. 3<hi rend="superscript">s</hi>. 6, <lb xml:id="l27"/>whereof he hath received 150<hi rend="superscript">li</hi>. And so there remains due to him 49<hi rend="superscript">li</hi>. 3<hi rend="superscript">s</hi>. 6.</p>
                
                <p xml:id="par5">By the same Warrant <choice><orig>I</orig><reg>J</reg></choice>ames Hamilton is to receive 79<hi rend="superscript"><hi rend="overline">li</hi></hi> for 158 <lb xml:id="l28"/>days, whereof he hath received of the Doctor 21<hi rend="superscript">li</hi> 13<hi rend="superscript">s</hi>. 3<hi rend="superscript">d</hi>. And there <lb xml:id="l29"/>remains due to him 57<hi rend="superscript"><hi rend="overline">li</hi></hi>. <unclear reason="hand"><del type="over"><gap reason="over" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">6</add></unclear><hi rend="superscript">s</hi> 9<hi rend="superscript">d</hi>.</p>
                
                <p xml:id="par6">And if Thomas Hamilton be allowed equally with his brother (for <lb xml:id="l30"/>he went down upon that supposition, &amp; was the most serviceable man <lb xml:id="l31"/>of the three) there will be 79<hi rend="superscript"><hi rend="overline">li</hi></hi> due to him on that account, whereof <lb xml:id="l32"/>he hath received of the Doctor 23<hi rend="superscript"><hi rend="overline">li</hi></hi>. 3<hi rend="superscript">s</hi>. 3<hi rend="superscript">d</hi>, &amp; there remains due to <lb xml:id="l33"/>him 55<hi rend="superscript">li</hi>. 16<hi rend="superscript">s</hi>. 9<hi rend="superscript">d</hi>.</p>
                
                <p xml:id="par7">The total due to all three is 162<hi rend="superscript">li</hi>. 10<hi rend="superscript">s</hi>. 00<hi rend="superscript">d</hi>, besides what <choice><abbr>yo<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>your</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>Lord<hi rend="superscript">ps</hi></abbr><expan>Lordships</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l34"/>shall see fit to allow to <choice><orig>I</orig><reg>J</reg></choice>ames Hamilton for his attendance at the <lb xml:id="l35"/>Mine ever since Feb. 19<hi rend="superscript">th</hi> to see that no Ore be dug &amp; caried away <lb xml:id="l36"/>untill he be discharged. <add place="inline interlinear infralinear" indicator="no">For <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> service I conceive that 20<hi rend="superscript">li</hi> may be a sufficient recompence <lb xml:id="l37"/>if he be dismist immediately.</add></p>
