<p xml:id="par3">I had lately an intimation from D<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Gregory, as if it were a desire of yours, <lb xml:id="l1"/>That (in a letter of M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi>. Flamstead's concerning the Parallax of the Earth's Annual <lb xml:id="l2"/>Orb, which I am about to print) I would omit a paragraph wherein you are <lb xml:id="l3"/>mentioned: It is, wherein, <add indicator="yes" place="supralinear">when</add> I had pressed his co<choice><orig>m̄</orig><reg>mm</reg></choice>unicat<del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add indicator="no" place="over">in</add>g to me and the <del type="cancelled">his o</del> publike <lb xml:id="l4"/>his obser<del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add indicator="no" place="over">v</add>ations concerning this matter; he excuseth his delay of gratifying me <lb xml:id="l5"/>therein, from his diversions by other Business; &amp; (amongst the rest) this for one: <quote><foreign xml:lang="lat">"Contraxeram etiam cum D<hi rend="superscript">o</hi> Newtono (Doctissimo tunc temporis in Aca<lb type="hyphenated" xml:id="l6"/>demia Cantabrigiensi Professore) necessitudinem, cui Lume loca ab obser<lb type="hyphenated" xml:id="l7"/>vationibus meis ante habitis deducta 150 dederam, cum locis simul è Tabu<lb type="hyphenated" xml:id="l8"/>lis meis ad ear<choice><orig>ū</orig><reg>um</reg></choice> tempora supputatis, tum similia in poster<choice><orig>ū</orig><reg>um</reg></choice> prout asse<lb type="hyphenated" xml:id="l9"/>querer promiseram, cum elementis calculi mei in ordine ad emendati<lb type="hyphenated" xml:id="l10"/>onem Theoriæ Lunaris Horroccianæ qua <supplied reason="damage" evidence="external" cert="medium">in</supplied> re spero e<choice><orig>ū</orig><reg>um</reg></choice> successus consecu<lb type="hyphenated" xml:id="l11"/>turum expectationi suæ pares. For I was not to alter his letter without his order.</p>
<p xml:id="par4">I have since an answer from him, to this purpose: That it was (he suppo<lb type="hyphenated" xml:id="l16"/>seth) rather a suggestion of D<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Gregory's own, than any order from you, to have <lb xml:id="l17"/>it left out; for that you do readyly acknowledge in all companies, that you <lb xml:id="l18"/>had from him such Observations; &amp; that upon his now writing to you <lb xml:id="l19"/>on this occasion, he hath received no answer from you to the contrary, <lb xml:id="l20"/><add indicator="yes" place="supralinear">&amp; therefore</add> he thinks that you do acquiesce, as to the publishing that paragraph with <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l21"/>rest, &amp; seems yet to adhere to it.</p>
<p xml:id="par5">For my part, I am willing to serve you both, &amp; not willing to displease <lb xml:id="l22"/>either And therefore desire you will please to acco<choice><orig>m̄</orig><reg>mm</reg></choice>odate that busy<lb type="hyphenated" xml:id="l23"/>ness between yourselves. <p xml:id="par9">I do not apprehend any prejudice to you in printing it, (being merely true ma<del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add indicator="no" place="over">tt</add>er <lb xml:id="l26"/>of fact.) And it seems of concernment to him to satisfy the world (from this &amp; other things <lb xml:id="l27"/>mentioned,) that he is not idle: though he be not yet in a readyness to publish that <lb xml:id="l28"/>whole of his Observations (for which he is frequently called upon,) it being a great <lb xml:id="l29"/>work.</p>
