N.<hi rend="superscript">s</hi> paper books <lb xml:id="l1"/>near some annotations of D<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Wallis’s <lb xml:id="l2"/>Arithmetica Infinitorum – There is <lb xml:id="l3"/>the following <choice><abbr>Mem<hi rend="superscript"><hi rend="underline">m</hi></hi></abbr><expan>Memorandum</expan></choice> in <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>Sir</expan></choice> Isaac’s hand <lb xml:id="l4"/>writing</p>
<p rend="indent5" xml:id="par2">Iuly - 4 -1699 – By consulting an <lb xml:id="l5"/>account of my expenses at Cambridge in <lb xml:id="l6"/>the years 1663 – &amp; 1664 I find that in the <lb xml:id="l7"/>year 1664 a little before <choice><abbr>X<hi rend="superscript">mas</hi></abbr><expan>Christmas</expan></choice> I being <lb xml:id="l8"/>then Senior Sophister I bought Schooten’s <lb xml:id="l9"/>Miscellanies &amp; Cartes’s Geometry (having <lb xml:id="l10"/>read this Geometry &amp; Oughtred’s clavis <lb xml:id="l11"/>above half a year before) &amp; borrowed <lb xml:id="l12"/>Wallis’s works &amp; by consequence made <lb xml:id="l13"/>these annotations out of Schooten &amp; <lb xml:id="l14"/>Wallis in winter between the years <lb xml:id="l15"/>1664 &amp; 1665 – At <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> time I found the <lb xml:id="l16"/>method of infinite series &amp; in su<choice><orig>m̄</orig><reg>mm</reg></choice>er <lb xml:id="l17"/>1665 being forced from Cambridge by the <lb xml:id="l18"/>plague I computed the Area of the <lb xml:id="l19"/>Hyperbola at Boothby in Lincolnshire to <lb xml:id="l20"/>two &amp; fifty figures by the same method –</p>

<p rend="indent0" xml:id="par5">By another book it appears he bought <lb xml:id="l23"/>in 1667 the History of the Royal Society <lb xml:id="l24"/>three Prisms — &amp; also Bacon’s Miscellanies <add place="infralinear" indicator="no">pret – 1.6</add></p>

<p rend="indent0" xml:id="par6">In another paper book – <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>Sir</expan></choice> I has writt <lb xml:id="l25"/>in his own hand that <choice><abbr>Dec<hi rend="superscript">r</hi>.</abbr><expan>December</expan></choice> 20<hi rend="superscript">th</hi> 1664 &amp; <lb xml:id="l26"/><choice type="oldCorr"><sic><gap reason="illgbl" extent="1" unit="words"/></sic><corr>on</corr></choice> Saturday <choice><abbr>Dec<hi rend="superscript">r</hi>.</abbr><expan>December</expan></choice> 27. 1664</p>

<p rend="indent0" xml:id="par9"><handShift new="#cc" scribe="Catherine_Conduitt"/>M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Oughtred Clavis being one of the best as well as <lb xml:id="l27"/>one of the first Essays for reviving the Art of Geometrical <lb xml:id="l28"/>Resolution &amp; Composition I agree with the Oxford <lb xml:id="l29"/>Professors that a Correct Edition thereof to make it <lb xml:id="l30"/>more usefull &amp; bring it into more hands will be both <lb xml:id="l31"/>for the honour of our nation and advantage of <lb xml:id="l32"/>mathematicks</p>

<p rend="indent0" xml:id="par11"><handShift new="#jc" scribe="John_Conduitt"/>I find in a paper book of his <lb xml:id="l33"/>to <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> he has put his name &amp; <lb xml:id="l34"/>1659 – Rules for drawing &amp; making <lb xml:id="l35"/>colours – <del type="strikethrough">copied</del></p>
<p rend="indent0" xml:id="par12">&amp; in another of the same year <lb xml:id="l36"/>a Prosodia writt out</p>

<p rend="indent0" xml:id="par13">In a letter to the Lord Provost of <lb xml:id="l37"/>Edinburg offers to allow Maclaurin <lb xml:id="l38"/>£20 <choice><abbr>pr an<hi rend="superscript">m</hi></abbr><expan>per annum</expan></choice> till Gregory’s place <lb xml:id="l39"/>falls</p>
