<p xml:id="par31">Abraham spake unto <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> sons of Heth saying – give me a possession of a burying place with you, that I may bury my dead out of my sight. And they answered, hear us my <choice><abbr>L<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Lord</expan></choice>, thou art a mighty Prince among us, in the choyse of <choice><abbr>o<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>our</expan></choice> sepulchers bury thy dead, none of us shall withhold from thee his Sepulcher &amp;c. Gen 23.3.</p>
<p xml:id="par32">Isaac went unto Abimelech king of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Philistines unto Gerar – &amp; the men of the place asked him of his wife, &amp; he said, shee is my sister – for he feared least they should kill him for her sake. And when he had been there a long time, Abimelech looking out at a window saw Isaac sporting with <choice type="oldCorr"><sic>Rebeka</sic><corr>Rebecca</corr></choice> his wife, &amp; calling him said, of a surety she is thy wife – what is this that thou hast done unto us? One of the people might lightly have lien with thy wife &amp; thou shouldest have brought guiltiness upon us. And Abimelech charged all his people saying he that toucheth this man or his wife shall surely be put to death. Gen 26.2, 7, 8 &amp;c.</p>
<p xml:id="par33">Abimelech &amp; Ahuzzah one of his friends &amp; Phicol his chief captain came to Isaac, &amp; <del type="strikethrough">said</del> hee said, why come ye to me seeing ye hate me &amp; have sent me away from you? And they said, we saw <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> <hi rend="underline">Lord</hi> was with thee – let us make a covenant with the that thou wilt not hurt us — thou art now the blessed of the <hi rend="underline">Lord</hi> Gen 26.26, 27 &amp;c.</p>
<p xml:id="par34">And Pharaoh said sacrifice to <choice><abbr>yo<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>your</expan></choice> God in the Land. And Moses said it is not meet so to do. ffor we shall sacrifice – the abomination of the Egyptians before their eyes &amp; will they not stone us. Exod 8.26.</p>
<p xml:id="par35">The Egyptians might not eat bread with the Hebrews, for that is an abomination to <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Egyptians. Gen 43.32</p>

To Moses <choice><abbr>o<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>our</expan></choice> fathers would not be obedient but thrust him from them, &amp; in their hearts turned back again into Egypt, saying unto Aaron, make us Gods to go before us. Acts 7.39, 40. In the day that I lift up my hand to bring them out of Egypt, I said, Cast ye away every man the abominations of his eyes &amp; defile not <choice><abbr>yo<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>your</expan></choice> selves with the Idols of Egypt. But they — forsook not the Idols of Egypt. <del type="cancelled">Ezech</del> Then I said I will pour out my fury upon them – in the midst of the land of Egypt. Ezech 20.6. 7. 8.</p>
<p xml:id="par42">And Israel abode in Shittim, &amp; the people began to commit whoredom with <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> daughters of Moab. And they called the people unto the sacrifices of their Gods &amp; the people did eat &amp; bowed down to their Gods. And Israel joyned himself unto Baal-Peor. Numb 25.1, 2, 3. They sacrificed to <del type="cancelled"><hi rend="underline">Devils</hi> not to</del> Dæmons <del type="cancelled">not to God</del> (<foreign xml:lang="gre">δαιμονίοις, <space dim="horizontal" extent="9" unit="chars"/></foreign>) not to God, to Gods whom they knew not Deutr 32.17. Note that this Idolatry was when they grew luxurious after God had led them through <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> wilderness &amp; fed them <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> honey oyle Butter milk, wine, &amp;c vers 10, 12, 13, 14, 15. And therefore must be at Shittim.</p>
<p xml:id="par43">Moses – died according to <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> word of the Lord, &amp; he (God) buried him in a valley in the land of Moab over against Beth-Peor, but no man knoweth of his <choice><sic>sepuchre</sic><corr>sepulchre</corr></choice> unto this day. Deutr 24.6. That is for fear of Idolizing him.</p>
<p xml:id="par44">The Israelites Idolatrous, Iudges 2.11, &amp;c. Again Iudges 3.12. Again Iudges 4.1. again Iudges 6.<del type="cancelled"><gap reason="illgblDel" extent="1" unit="chars"/></del>1.</p>
<p xml:id="par45">The Ephod <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> Gideon made &amp; placed in his city Ophrah Iudges 8.27. was doubtless intended for the worship of the true God in imitation of the high Priests Ephod. ffor Gideon had lately seen an Angel of God, &amp; was commanded by God himself to destroy the worship of Baal &amp; did accordingly, Iudges 6. Insomuch that the Israelites turned not again to go a whoring after the heathen gods &amp; to forget the Lord till after Gideons death. ffor it is said that as soon as Gideon was dead the children of Israel turned again &amp; went a whoring after Baalim &amp; made Baal-Berith their God, &amp; — <del type="cancelled">&amp;</del> remembered not the Lord their God <del type="strikethrough">who had delivered them out of the hand</del> — neither shewed kindness to the house of Gideon. Iudges 8.33, 34, 35. And yet of the Ephod it is said <del type="strikethrough">that al</del> in Gideons life time that all Israel went <choice><sic>went</sic><corr type="noText"/></choice> thither (to Ophrah) a <hi rend="underline">whoring</hi> after it, &amp; that it became a snare unto Gideon &amp; to his house. Iudges 8.27.</p>
<p xml:id="par46">Micah his Idolatry related Iudges 17 was in worshipping Images with respect to the true God. ffor of the silver of <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> the Images were made his Mother said that she had wholly dedicated it unto the <hi rend="underline">Lord</hi> from her hand for her son to make a graven Image &amp; a molten Image vers <del type="cancelled"><gap reason="illgblDel" extent="1" unit="chars"/></del> 3. And doubtless it was in imitation of the true worship at Shiloh that he also made an Ephod &amp; Teraphim &amp; consecrated one of his sons who became his Priest; vers 5. And in further imitation of it that afterward he procured a Levite to be his Priest, saying Now I know that the <hi rend="underline">Lord</hi> will do me good seing I have a Levite for my Priest, Vers 12, 13. And further the Danites when they <del type="cancelled"><gap reason="illgblDel" extent="2" unit="chars"/> going to</del> <add place="supralinear" indicator="no">coming to</add> Micahs house met with the Levite &amp; knew him to be 
<pb xml:id="p006r" n="6r"/><fw type="pag" place="topRight">VI</fw> his Priest, said, Ask counsel we pray thee of <hi rend="underline">God</hi>: chap 18. vers 5. <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">And the Priest answered, Go in peace, before the <hi rend="underline">Lord</hi> in your way wherein ye go vers 6.</add> So that doubtles<supplied reason="damage">s</supplied> the worship of the true God was intended in these Images. And yet it was Idolatry ffor the Images are termed Micahs Gods in ch 17 v 5 where tis said that Micah had a house of Gods; &amp; in ch 18 v 24 where Micah saith to the Danites, Ye have taken away my Gods <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> I made. And the story is related with this character That in those days there was no King in Israel but every man did that <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> was right in his own eyes c 17. v 6.</p>
<p xml:id="par47">And so it is not to be doubted that the Danites were Idolaters in setting up Micah's graven Image, <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> they took from him, all the time that the house of God was in Shiloh. Iudges 18.31. And yet it is most reasonable to think that they worshiped the Images <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> respect to the true God, becaus they acknowledged the true God in them Chap 18 v 5. &amp; had Micah's Priest to instruct them in his way of worship. ch. 18.30.</p>
<p xml:id="par48">It is not probable that Solomon to whome God appeared twice 1 Kings 11.9 &amp; who was the wisest of men &amp; understood the nature of all trees, beasts, foules, creeping things &amp; fishes 1 Kings 4.33 could be so little a Philosopher as to think<del type="strikethrough"><unclear reason="del" cert="low">in</unclear></del> that Images made of Gold or wood or Stone were Deities. We may rather suppose that <del type="strikethrough">when</del> he fell into Idolatry, through a perswasion that there <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">was</add> some reality in the supposed Gods Chemosh, Molech, Asterosh &amp;c to <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> the Heathen Idols were dedicated. &amp; so worshipped their Idols with respect to them. ffor if we consider <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> in <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> books of Moses &amp; <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Iudges there is frequent mention of Angels imployed on severall occasions to execute the will of God in the government of the world why might not his heathen wives &amp; concubines by telling him stories of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> works &amp; power of their Gods, perswade him to think that the supreme God had committed the government of the world to Angels &amp; such like intermediate beings &amp; that of this sort were the Heathen Deities &amp; therfore might be supplicated for their assistance &amp; worshipped as <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> superintendents of mankind. And thus notwithstanding his wisdom he might be perswaded to go a whoring after them, as he did 1 Kings 11.7, 33.</p>

<p xml:id="par49">We know <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> an Idol is nothing in <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> world, &amp; that there is none other God but one, For though there be <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> are called Gods whether in heaven or in earth (as there be Gods many &amp; Lords many) yet to us there is but one God, the Father of whom are all things &amp; one lord Iesus Christ by whom are all things &amp; we <app type="authorial"><rdg place="inline">by</rdg> <rdg place="supralinear">through</rdg></app> him 1 Cor 8.6.</p>
<p xml:id="par50">This is life eternal that they might know the <choice><sic>the</sic><corr type="noText"/></choice> onely true God, &amp; Iesus Christ whom thou hast sent. Iohn 17.3.</p>
<p xml:id="par51">There is one God &amp; one Mediator between God &amp; Man <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Man Christ Iesus. 1 Tim. 2.5.</p>

<p xml:id="par55">Then said they unto him we be not born of fornication, we have one Father even God. <p xml:id="par80">No man hath seen God at any time, <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> only begotten son <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> is in <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> bosom of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Father he hath declared him (<foreign xml:lang="gre">ὁ ὤν ἐις τὸν κόλπον</foreign>) Iohn 1.18.</p>
<p xml:id="par81">Iesus said, before <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> Philip called thee when thou wast under <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> figtree I saw thee Iohn 1.48.</p>
<p xml:id="par82">No man hath ascended up to heaven but he <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> came down fr<choice><orig>ō</orig><reg>om</reg></choice> heaven, even <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> son of man <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> is in heaven. The father loveth <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> son &amp; hath given all things into his hand. Iohn 3.30.</p>
<p xml:id="par85">Iesus answered, my Father worketh hitherto, &amp; I work. Therefore <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Iews sought <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> more to kill him becaus – he said <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> God was his Father, making himself equall <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> God. Then answered Iesus – the son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Father do: for whatsoever he doth these also doth <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> son likewise. For <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Father loveth <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> son &amp; sheweth him all things that himself doth, &amp; he will shew him greater works then these that ye may marvel. <p xml:id="par87">When ye have lift up <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> son of man <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">n</hi></abbr><expan>then</expan></choice> shall ye know <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> I am he &amp; <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> I do nothing of my self, but as my Father hath taught me I speak these things – for I do always <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> things that pleas him Iohn 8.28. <p xml:id="par88">Therefore doth my Father love me becaus I lay down my life <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> I might take it again. No man taketh it from me but I lay it down of my self. I have power to lay it down &amp; I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father Iohn 10.17</p>
<p xml:id="par89">My sheep hear my voice &amp; I know <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">m</hi></abbr><expan>them</expan></choice> &amp; they follow me, &amp; I give unto them eternall life, &amp; they shall never perish neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My father <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> gave me them is greater then all, &amp; no man is able to pluck them out of my Fathers hand. I &amp; the Father are one. Then <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Iews took up stones – &amp; said – For a good work we stone the not but for blasphemy &amp; becaus thou being a man makest thy self God. Iesus answered them: Is it not written in your law: I said ye are Gods. If he called them Gods unto whom <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> word of God came, &amp; <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> scripture canot be broken: say ye of him whom <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Father hath sanctified &amp; sent into <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> world; Thou blasphemest: becaus I said I am <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Son of God? Iohn 10.27.</p>

The time cometh when I shall no more speak unto you in Proverbs (Parables) but I shall shew you plainly of the Father. — I came forth from <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Father &amp; am come into <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> world: again I leave <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> world &amp; go to <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Father. His disciples said unto him, Lo now speakest thou plainly, – now we are sure that thou knowest all things &amp; needest not that any man should ask thee. By this we beleive <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> thou camest from God. Iohn 16.25.</p>
<p xml:id="par99">All <del type="strikethrough">that are</del> mine are thine, &amp; thine are mine – Holy Father keep through thine own name those whome thou hast given me, that they may be one <app type="authorial"><rdg place="inline">as</rdg> <rdg place="supralinear"><foreign xml:lang="gre">καθὼς</foreign></rdg></app> we are. – Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> shall beleive on me through their word, that they all may be one <app type="authorial"><rdg place="inline">as</rdg> <rdg place="supralinear"><foreign xml:lang="gre">καθὼς</foreign></rdg></app> thou Father art in me &amp; I in thee, that they also may be one in us that <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> world may beleive that thou hast sent me. And <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> glory <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> thou gavest me I have given them, that they may be one <app type="authorial"><rdg place="inline">even as</rdg> <rdg place="supralinear"><foreign xml:lang="gre">καθὼς</foreign></rdg></app> we are one. I in them &amp; thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one, &amp; that <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> world may know that thou hast sent me, &amp; hast loved them <app type="authorial"><rdg place="inline">as</rdg> <rdg place="supralinear"><foreign xml:lang="gre">καθὼς</foreign></rdg></app> thou hast loved me. &amp;c Iohn 17.10.</p>
<p xml:id="par100">Then said he unto them, my <hi rend="underline">soul</hi> is exceeding sorrowfull even unto death – And he went a little further &amp; prayed, saying, O my Father if it be possible let this cup pass from <choice><sic>nevertheless</sic><corr>me nevertheless</corr></choice> not as I <hi rend="underline">will</hi> but as thou wilt. Mat 26.38. Mark 14.34. Luke 22.42, 44.</p>
<p xml:id="par101">Thinkest thou <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> I cannot now pray to my Father &amp; he shall give me more then twelve legions of angels. Matt 26.53.</p>
<p xml:id="par102">And there appeared an Angel unto him from heaven strengthening him. Luke 22.43.</p>
<p xml:id="par103">And when Iesus had cryed <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> a loud voyce, he said, Father into thy hands I commend my spirit, &amp; when he had said thus he gave up <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> ghost. Luke 23.46.</p>
<p xml:id="par104">When he had fasted 40 days &amp; 40 nights he was afterwards an hungred Matt 4.2.</p>
<p xml:id="par105">The holy ghost shall come upon thee &amp; <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> power of the highest shall overshaddow thee therefore also <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> holy thing <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> shall be born of the shall be called <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> son of God. Luke 1.35.</p>
<p xml:id="par106">And Iesus increased in wisdom &amp; stature, &amp; in favour with God &amp; men Luke 2.40, 52.</p>
<p xml:id="par107">Iesus also being baptised &amp; praying, the heaven was opened, &amp; <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> holy ghost descended <del type="strikethrough">like</del> in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, &amp; a voyce came from heaven <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> said thou art my beloved son, in the I am well pleased. — And Iesus being full of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> holy ghost returned from Iordan &amp; was led by <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> spirit into <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> wilderness, being 40 days tempted of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> devil. And in those days he did eat nothing &amp; when they were ended he was afterward an hungred. Luke 3.21 &amp; 4.1.</p>
<p xml:id="par108">The Lord possessed me in <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> beginning of his ways before his works of old, I was set up from everlasting (<foreign xml:lang="gre">κύριος ἔκτισέ με αρχην ὡδων ἀυτου, εἰς ἔργα ἀυτου, Πρὸ του ἀιωνος ἐθεμελίωσέ με</foreign>) or ever the earth was. When there was no depths I was brought forth (<foreign xml:lang="gre">ἐν ἀρχη πρὸ του τηνο γην ποιησαι, καὶ πρὸ του τὰς ἀβύσσοις ποιησαι</foreign>) — When he prepared <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> heavens I was there &amp;c – Then was I by him <del type="strikethrough">rejoycing with him</del> as one <choice><sic>brough</sic><corr>brought</corr></choice> up with him (<foreign xml:lang="gre">Ἤμην παρ᾽ ἀυτω ἁρμόζουσα ἐγὼ ἤμην καὶ προσέχαιρε καθ᾽ ἡμέραν δὲ ἐυφραννόμην ἐν προσώπω ἀυτου ἐν παντὶ καιρω</foreign>) and I was dayly his delight; rejoycing always before him. Prov 8.22. Wisdom hath built her a hous Prov 9.1.</p>
<p xml:id="par109">Out of thee shall come forth unto me <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> is to be ruler in Israel, whose goings forth have been from of old from everlasting. (<foreign xml:lang="gre">ἀπ᾽ ἀρχης ἐξ ἡμερων ἀιωνος</foreign>.) Mica 5.2.</p>

<p xml:id="par111">The lord appeared unto Abraham in <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> plains of Mamre, – &amp; he looked, &amp; lo three men stood by him — And <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> lord went his way as soon as he had left communing with Abraham – &amp; there came 2 Angels to Sodom at even – and when <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> morning arose the angels hastened Lot — the Lord being mercifull to him – &amp; when they had brought <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">m</hi></abbr><expan>them</expan></choice> <pb xml:id="p013v" n="13v"/> forth he said escape to <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> mountain lest thou be consumed. And Lot said unto them, O not so my Lord – Behold this city is near to fly unto. And he said unto him, See, I have accepted thee. — Then <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> <hi rend="underline">Lord</hi> raigned upon Sodom &amp; upon Gomorrah brimstone &amp; fire from <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Lord out of heaven. <p xml:id="par112">The Angell of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Lord called unto Abraham out of heaven &amp; said – Now I know that thou fearest God seeing thou hast not withheld thy son thine onely son from me, Gen 22.11.</p>
<p xml:id="par113">Iacob dreamed &amp; behold a ladder – and <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> lord stood above it &amp; said, I am the <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">Lord</add> God of Abraham thy Father &amp; of Isaac, &amp;c Gen 28.12 — The angel of God spake unto me in a dream <del type="cancelled">&amp; said</del> saying Iacob – I am <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> God of Bethel, <choice type="oldCorr"><sic><gap reason="illgbl" extent="1" unit="words"/></sic><corr>where</corr></choice> thou annoyntedst <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Pillar &amp; vowedst a vow unto me. <p xml:id="par114">Iacob was left alone &amp; there wrastled a man with him — &amp; he said thy name shall be called no more Iacob but Israel, for as a Prince hast thou power <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> God &amp; <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> men. – And Iacob called <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> name of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Place Peniel, for I have seen God face to face &amp; my life is preserved. Gen 32.24 see also Gen 35.9, viz: God appeared unto Iacob when he came out of Padan-aram, &amp; blessed him &amp; said – thy name shall not be called any more Iacob, but Israel – &amp; God said unto him I am <hi rend="underline">God Almighty</hi> – &amp; God went up from him <add place="inline interlinear" indicator="no">– Also Hos. 12.4 He [Iacob] had power over the Angel &amp; prevailed he – made supplication to him he found him in Bethel &amp; there he spake <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> us.</add></p>
<p xml:id="par115">And when Abram was 99 years old, <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Lord appeared to Abram &amp; said unto him I am the <hi rend="underline">Almighty God</hi> — I will give unto thee &amp; to thy seed after thee, the land wherin thou art a stranger, all <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> land of Canaan for an everlasting possession, &amp; I will be their God. — And he left talking <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> him, &amp; God went up from Abram. Gen 17.1.</p>

<p xml:id="par135">God sending his own son in <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> likeness of sinfull flesh, &amp; for sin, condemned sin in the flesh. Rom 8.3. He was made of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> seed of David according to <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> flesh. Rom. 1.3. Of the Iews as concerning <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> flesh, Christ came Rom 9.5</p>

<p xml:id="par137">Every spirit that confesseth that Iesus Christ is come in <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> flesh is of God, &amp; every spirit that confesseth not <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> Iesus Christ <choice><sic>is not</sic><corr>is</corr></choice> in <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> flesh is not of God. And this is that spirit of Antichrist whereof ye have heard that it should come, &amp; even now already is it in <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> world. 1 Iohn 4.3. Many deceivers are entered into <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> world who confess not <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> Iesus Christ is come in <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> flesh. This is a deceiver &amp; an Antichrist. 3 Iohn 1.7.</p>
<p xml:id="par138">We have not an high Priest <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> cannot be touched <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> feeling of <choice><abbr>o<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>our</expan></choice> infirmities but was in all points tempted like as we are. Heb 4.15</p>
<p xml:id="par139">Forasmuch <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">n</hi></abbr><expan>then</expan></choice> as Christ hath suffered for us in <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> fflesh 1 Pet. 4.1 <choice type="oldCorr"><sic>being</sic><corr>Being</corr></choice> put to death in <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> flesh. 1 Pet. 3.18.</p>

The Iews did not expect their Messiah to be more then a man, yet freely called him <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Son of God. Christ did not magnify his divinity before his passion yet freely called himself <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Son of God. <p xml:id="par142">As Ionas was 3 days &amp; thre nights in <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> whales belly, so shall <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> son of man be three days &amp; thre nights in <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> heart of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> earth (<foreign xml:lang="gre">ἐν καρδία της γης</foreign>) Matth 12.40</p>
<p xml:id="par143">Christ hath once suffered for sins, <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> just for <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> flesh but quickned by the spirit. <choice type="oldCorr"><sic>by</sic><corr>By</corr></choice> <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> also he went &amp; preached to <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> spirits in prison (<foreign xml:lang="gre">εν φυλακη</foreign>): <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> sometime were disobedient when once the long suffering of God waited in the days of Noah while <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Ark was a preparing wherein few, <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> is 8 souls were saved by water. 1 Peter 3.18.</p>
<p xml:id="par144">The graves were opened &amp; many bodies of Saints <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> slept arose, &amp; came out of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> graves after his resurrection &amp; went into the holy city, &amp; appeared unto many. Matth 27.52.</p>
<p xml:id="par145">To this end Christ both died &amp; rose &amp; revived <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> he might be lord both of the dead &amp; living Rom 14.9</p>
<p xml:id="par146">We see Iesus who was made a little lower then <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Angels for <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> suffering of death crowned with glory &amp; honour, that he by <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> grace of God should tast of death for every man. For it became him for whom are all things &amp; by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings. – Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren that he might be a mercifull &amp; faithfull high Priest in things pertaining to God to make reconciliation for <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> people: For in <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted. Hebr 2.9, 10, 17, 18.</p>
<p xml:id="par147">In the days of his flesh when he had offered up prayers &amp; supplications with strong crying &amp; tears unto him <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> was able to save him from death, &amp; was heard in <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> he feared: though he were a son yet learned he obedience by the things <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> he suffered: &amp; being made perfect he became <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> author of eternall salvation unto all them that obey him; called of God an high Priest &amp;c Hebr 5.7.</p>
<p xml:id="par148">Once in <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> end of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself. And as it is appointed unto men once to dy but after <del type="strikethrough">death</del> <add place="supralinear" indicator="no">this</add> <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> judgment, So christ was once offered to bear <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> sins of many. Hebr 9.26.</p>
<p xml:id="par149">Ye <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">denied <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> holy one &amp; <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> just &amp; desired a murderer – &amp;</add> killed <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Prince of life, <foreign xml:lang="gre">αρχηγον της ζωης</foreign>, author of life. Acts 3.14</p>
<p xml:id="par150">Then saith he unto <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">m</hi></abbr><expan>them</expan></choice> my soul is exceeding sorrowfull even unto death tarry ye here &amp; watch <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> me. And he went a little further &amp; fell on his face &amp; prayed, saying; O my Father, if it be possible let this cup pass from me nevertheless not as I will but as thou wilt. Matt 26.38. Iohn 12.27.</p>
<p xml:id="par151">Therefore doth my Father love me becaus I lay down my life <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> I might take it again. No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of my self: I have power to lay it down &amp; I have power to take it again, This commandment have I received of my Father. Iohn 10.17</p>
<p xml:id="par152">I determined not to know any thing among you save Iesus Christ &amp; him crucified. 1 Cor. 2.2.</p>
<p xml:id="par153">He <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> spared not his own son but delivered him up for us all, how shal he not <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> him also freely give us all things. Rom 8.32.</p>
<p xml:id="par154">Being found in fashion as a man (viz <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> word) he humbled himself &amp; became obedient unto death even <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> death of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Cross: wherefore God hath highly exalted him &amp;c Philip 2.8.</p>

<p xml:id="par158">He needeth not dayly to offer up sacrifice first for his own sins &amp; then for <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> peoples for this he did once when he offered up himself. Hebr 7.27.</p>
<p xml:id="par159">Not by the blood of <del type="cancelled">Bulls</del> Goates &amp; Calves but by his own blood he entered once into <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> holy place having obteined eternal redemption for us. ffor if <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> blood of Bulls &amp; of Goats &amp; <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> ashes of an Heifer sprinkling <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> unclean sanctifieth to <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> purifying of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> flesh, how much more shall <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> blood of christ who through <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> eternall spirit offered himself to God, purge your Consciences from dead works to serve <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> living god. For a testament – is of no strength at all while <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> testator liveth. Whereupon neither was <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> first testament dedicated without blood. For when Moses had spoken every precept to all <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> people according to <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> law, he took the blood of <pb xml:id="p017v" n="17v"/> calves &amp; of Goates <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> water &amp; scarlet wool &amp; hysop &amp; sprinkled both <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> book &amp; all <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> people, saying this is <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> blood of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> testament <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> God hath injoyned unto you. Moreover he sprinkled likewise with blood both <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Tabernacle &amp; all <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> vessels of the ministry. And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; &amp; without shedding of blood is no remission It was therefore necessary that <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> pattern of things for <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> heavens should be purified with these but <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> heavenly things themselves <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> better sacrifices then these. &amp;c. Hebr 9.12.</p>

<p xml:id="par162">If righteousnes come by the law then is Christ dead in vain Gal 2.21.</p>

<p xml:id="par164">Christ hath loved us &amp; hath given himself for us, an offering &amp; a sacrifice to God for a sweet smelling savour. Eph 5.2</p>
<p xml:id="par165">In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins Colos 1.14 It pleased <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Father — (having made peace — through <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> blood of his cross) by him to reconcile all things to himself. vers. 20.</p>
<p xml:id="par166">When we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one dy, yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to dy. But God comendeth his love towards us in <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> while we were yet sinners Christ died for us. Much more being now justifyed by his blood we shall be saved from <del type="cancelled"><choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice></del> wrath <del type="strikethrough">to come</del> through him. For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his son, much more being reconciled we shall be saved by his life. For as by one mans disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous. Rom 5.6 to 11, 18, 19.</p>
<p xml:id="par167">He was declared to be <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> son of God with power according to <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> spirit of holiness by the resurrection from <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> dead. Rom 1.4</p>
<p xml:id="par168">If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Iesus &amp; beleive in thy heart that God hath raised him from <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> dead, thou shalt be saved. Rom 10.9</p>
<p xml:id="par169">Christ dyed for <choice><abbr>o<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>our</expan></choice> sins, – &amp; was buried, &amp; rose again <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> third day – &amp; was seen of Cephas, then of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> 12, after that he was seen of above 500 brethren at once of <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> <del type="strikethrough">above</del> the greatest part <del type="strikethrough">are alive at</del> <add place="supralinear" indicator="no">remain unto</add> this day, but some are faln asleep, after that he was seen of Iames, then of all the Apostles, &amp; last of all he was seen of me also as of one born out of due time. – Now if Christ be preached to you that he rose from <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> dead how say some among you that there is no resurrection of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> dead. – If <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> dead rise not then is not Christ raised – &amp; your faith is vain – but now is christ risen from <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> dead &amp; become <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> first fruits of them that <choice type="oldCorr"><sic>sleep</sic><corr cert="medium">slept</corr></choice>. For since by man came death, by man came also <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> resurrection from <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> dead. For as in Adam all dye so in Christ shall all be made alive. But every man in his own order Christ <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> first fruits, afterward they that are christs at his coming. 1 Cor. 15.4 to 23</p>
<p xml:id="par170">Christ being raised from <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> dead dieth no more, death hath no more dominion over him, for in <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> he died he died unto sin once, but in <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> he liveth he liveth unto God. Rom 6.9. I am he <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> liveth &amp; was dead &amp; behold I am alive for evermore, &amp; have <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> keys of hell &amp; of death. <p xml:id="par171">For <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> joy that was set before him he indured the cross despising the shame, &amp; is set down at <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> right hand of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> throne of god. For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself least you be wearied &amp; faint in your minds. Hebr 12.2.</p>

<p xml:id="par179">If one died for all then were all dead — All things are of God who hath reconciled us to himself by Iesus Christ &amp; hath given to us <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> ministery of reconciliation: to wit that God was in Christ reconciling <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them — He made him to be sin for us who knew no sin that we might be <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">made</add> <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> righteousness of God in him. 2 Cor. 5.14 to 21.</p>

<p xml:id="par189">Eye hath not seen nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man the things <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> God hath prepared for them that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by his spirit; for <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> spirit searcheth all things, yea the deep things of God. For what man knoweth <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> things of a man save <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> spirit <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">of a man</add> <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> is in him? even so <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> things of God knoweth no man but <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> spirit of god. Now we have received not <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> spirit of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> world, but the spirit <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> is of God, that we might know the things <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> are freely given to us of God. Which things also we speak, not in the words <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> mans wisdom but which the holy ghost teacheth comparing spirituall things with spirituall. But the naturall man receiveth not the things of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> spirit of God, for they are foolish unto him &amp;c. 1 Cor. 2.9.</p>
<p xml:id="par190">I will pray the Father &amp; he shall give you another comforter that he may abide with you for ever; even the spirit of truth whom <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> world cannot receive becaus it seeth him not neither knoweth him; but ye know him for he dwelleth with you &amp; shall be in you. Iohn 14, 16. These things have I spoken unto you being <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">yet</add> present with you; but the Comforter which is the holy ghost whom <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things &amp; bring all things to your remembrance whatsoever I have said unto you. vers 25. – When <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Comforter cometh whom I will send unto you from <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Father, even <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> spirit of truth which proceedeth from <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Father, he shall testify of me. ch 15.26. — It is expedient for you that I go away, for if I go not away the Comforter will not come unto you, but if I depart, I will send him unto you. And when he is come he will reprove <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> world of Sin, &amp; of righteousness &amp; of judgment —– I have yet many things to say unto you but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit when the spirit of truth is com he will guide you into all the truth. For he shall not speak of himself but whatsoever he shall hear, that he shall speak, &amp; he will shew you things to come. He shall glorify me, for he shall receive of mine &amp; shall shew it unto you All things that <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Father hath are mine: Therefore said I he shall take of mine &amp; shall shew it unto you. chap 16.7.</p>
<p xml:id="par191">Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie unto the holy ghost, &amp; to keep back part of the price of the land? whilst it remained was it not thine own, &amp; after it was sold was it not in <choice><sic>thin</sic><corr>thine</corr></choice> own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men but unto God. Acts 5.3.</p>
<p xml:id="par192">Know ye not that ye are <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> temple of God, &amp; that <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> spirit of God dwelleth in you. If any man defile the temple of god, him shall god destroy; for <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> temple of god is holy, which temple ye are. 1 Cor 3.16. Compare this with 1 Cor 6.19 Know ye not that your body is the temple of the holy ghost <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> is in you which ye have of god, &amp; ye are not your own? For ye are bought <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> a price, therefore glorify god in your body, &amp; in your spirit which are god's.</p>
<p xml:id="par193">Go - teach all nations, baptising them in <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> name of the Father &amp; of the Son &amp; of the holy ghost. Matt 28.19.</p>
<p xml:id="par194">It is the spirit that beareth witness becaus the spirit is truth. For there are three that beare record in heaven the father, <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> word, &amp; <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> holy ghost, &amp; these thre are one. And there are three <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> beare witness in earth, <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> spirit &amp; <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> water &amp; the blood &amp; these thre agree in one. 1 Iohn 5.6.</p>
<p xml:id="par195">How much more shall <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> blood of christ, who through <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Eternall spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge <choice><abbr>yo<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>your</expan></choice> conscience from dead works Heb 9.14</p>
<p xml:id="par196">The holy ghost shall come upon thee &amp; the power of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> most high shall overshaddow thee. Luke 1.35.</p>
<p xml:id="par197">Iesus being baptised &amp; praying, the heaven was opened, &amp; <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> holy ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, &amp; a voyce came from heaven <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> said, Thou art my beloved son in whom I am well pleased – And Iesus being full of the holy ghost returned from Iordan &amp; was led by the spirit into the wilderness. Luke 3.21 &amp; 4.1. — God annointed Iesus of Nazareth with <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> holy ghost &amp; with power. Acts 10.38. – God giveth not the spirit by measure unto him. Iohn 3.34.</p>

And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, &amp; it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the holy ghost <pb xml:id="p024v" n="24v"/> &amp; began to speak with other tongues as <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> spirit gave tthem utterance — And Peter said, This is that <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> was spoken of by the Prophet Ioel: And it shal come to pass in the last days (saith God) I will pour out of my spirit upon all flesh, &amp; your sons &amp; <choice><abbr>yo<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>your</expan></choice> daughters shall prophesy &amp; your young men shall see visions &amp; your old men shall dream dreams &amp;c — Iesus being by the right hand of God exalted, &amp; having received of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> father the Promis of the holy ghost, he hath shed forth this that ye now see &amp; hear. — Repent &amp; be baptised every one of you in <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> name of Iesus Christ &amp; ye shall receive <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> gift of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> holy ghost. Acts 2.</p>
<p xml:id="par199">Philip went down <choice type="oldCorr"><sic>into</sic><corr>to</corr></choice> <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> City of Samaria &amp; preached Christ unto them, <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">doing many miracles &amp; baptising <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">m</hi></abbr><expan>them</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> beleived both men &amp; wemen</add> – Now when the Apostles <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> were at Ierusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them <choice type="oldCorr"><sic>Peeter</sic><corr>Peter</corr></choice> &amp; Iohn, who when they were come down prayed for them that they might receive the holy ghost (for as yet he was faln upon none of them: onely they were baptised in the name of the Lord Iesus.) Then laid they their hands on them &amp; they received the holy ghost. And when Simon saw that through laying on of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Apostles hands the holy ghost was given, he offered them mony, saying, <choice type="oldCorr"><sic>give</sic><corr>Give</corr></choice> me also this power that on whomsoever I lay hands he may receive <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> holy ghost. But Peter said thy money perish with thee becaus thou hast thought <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> gift of God may be purchased with mony. Acts 8.</p>
<p xml:id="par200">While Peter spake to Cornelius, the holy ghost fell on all them that heard the word. And they of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Circumcision <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes"><choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> beleived</add> were astonished, <del type="cancelled"><choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice></del> as many as came <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> Peter, becaus <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> on <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the holy ghost: ffor they heard them speak <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> tongues &amp; magnify god. Then answered Peter, Can any man forbid water that these should not be baptised <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> have received <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> holy ghost as well as wee? Acts 10.44. — Peter said, as I began to speak <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> holy ghost fell on them as on us at the beginning. Then remembered I the word of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Lord how that he said Iohn indeed baptised with water but ye shall be baptised <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> holy ghost. Acts 11.15.</p>
<p xml:id="par201">It seemed good to <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Holy ghost &amp; to us to lay upon you no greater <choice type="oldCorr"><sic>burden</sic><corr>burthen</corr></choice> then these necessary things, That <choice><sic><choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice></sic><corr>ye</corr></choice> abstain from meats offered to Idols &amp;c. Acts 15.28.</p>
<p xml:id="par202">While Appollos was at Corinth Paul having passed <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">through</add> the upper coasts came to Ephesus, &amp; finding certain disciples, he said unto them have ye received the holy ghost since ye beleived. And they said unto him, we have not so much as heard whither there be any holy ghost. And he said unto them unto (or into) what then were ye baptised? <choice type="oldCorr"><sic>&amp;</sic><corr>And</corr></choice> they said. Vnto Iohns baptism. Then said Paul. Iohn verily baptised with <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> baptism of repentance saying unto the people that they should beleive on him that should come after him that is on Christ Iesus. When they heard this they were baptised in <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">or into</add> <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> name of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Lord Iesus (id est into the <add place="supralinear" indicator="no">faith &amp;</add> profession of his name) And when Paul had laid his hands on them the holy ghost came on them, &amp; they spake <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> tongues &amp; prophesied. And all <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> men were about twelve. Acts 19.1. Hence Iohn baptised not in <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">name of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice></add> holy ghost but <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Aposles always did.</p>

<p xml:id="par205">If the spirit of him that raised up Iesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by the spirit that dwelleth in you Rom 8.11.</p>
<p xml:id="par206">He hath made us able ministers of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> new Testament, not of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> letter but of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> spirit for <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> letter killeth but <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> spirit reviveth — Now <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> lord is <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> spirit &amp; where <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> spirit of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Lord is there is liberty 2 Cor 3.6, 17. Quære whether meant of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> holy ghost.</p>
<p xml:id="par207">No man speaking by the spirit of God calleth Iesus accursed, &amp; no man can say that Iesus is the Lord but by the holy ghost. For there are diversities of gifts but the <hi rend="underline">same spirit</hi>, &amp; there are differences (diversities) of administrations (offices) but the <hi rend="underline">same Lord</hi>, And there are diversities of operations but it is the <hi rend="underline">same God</hi> that worketh all <del type="cancelled"><gap reason="illgblDel" extent="2" unit="chars"/></del> in all. But the Manifestation of the spirit is given to every man to profit withall. For to one is given by the spirit the word of wisdom, to another the word of knowledg by the same spirit. To another the working of miracles, to another Prophesy, to another discerning of spirits, to another divers kinds of tongues to another the interpretation of tongues. But all these worketh that <hi rend="underline">one &amp; the self same</hi> spirit, dividing to every severally as he <hi rend="underline">will</hi>. For as the body is one &amp; hath many members, &amp; all the members of that one <del type="cancelled"><gap reason="illgblDel" extent="1" unit="chars"/></del> body being many are one body, so also is christ. For by one spirit we are al baptised into one body</p>

<p xml:id="par210">The spirit also helpeth our infirmities. ffor we know not what we should pray for as we ought, but <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> spirit it self maketh intercession for us with groanings <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> cannot be uttered. And he that searcheth <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> hearts knoweth what is <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> mind of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> spirit because he maketh intercession for <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> saints according to <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> will of God. <p xml:id="par211">Through him we have an access by one spirit unto <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Father — in whome ye also are built together for an habitation of God through <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> spirit. Eph: 2 18, 22.</p>

<p xml:id="par212">Grace be to you from – the seven spirits that are before <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> throne. Apoc 1.4 And there were seven lamps burning before <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> throne <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> are <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> seven spirits of God. Apoc 4.5. The Lamb had seven eyes <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> are <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> seven spirits of God, sent forth into all <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> earth. Apoc 8.3, 4.</p>
<p xml:id="par213">The Revelation of Iesus Christ <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> God gave unto him <del type="cancelled">— &amp; he sent &amp; s</del> to shew unto his servants, <del type="cancelled">&amp;</del> – &amp; he sent &amp; signified it by his Angel unto his servant Iohn. Apoc 1.1. And <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Lord God of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> holy Prophets sent his Angel to shew unto his servants things <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> must shortly be done Apoc 22.6. I Iesus have sent mine Angel to testify unto you these things in <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Churches. And <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> <hi rend="underline">spirit</hi> &amp; the Bride say come. Apoc 22.16, 17. I [Iohn] was in <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> spirit on <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Lord's day, &amp; heard behind me a great voyce as of a Trumpet Apoc 1.10. And behold – the first voyce <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> I heard as it were of a Trumpet talking <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> me, saying Come up hither &amp; I will shew the things <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> must be hereafter <choice type="oldCorr"><sic>&amp;</sic><corr>And</corr></choice> immediately I was in <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> spirit. Apoc 4.1, 2. He that hath an ear let him hear what the spirit saith unto <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Churches. Apoc 2.7, 11, 17, 29 &amp; 3.7, 13, 22. And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said See thou do it not. I am thy fellow servant &amp; of thy brethren that have the testimon<supplied reason="damage">y</supplied> of Iesus. Worship God: ffor <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> testimony of Iesus is <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> spirit of prophesy. Apoc 19.10. &amp; 22.8, 9.</p>
<p xml:id="par214">Compare Apoc 1.13, 14, 15 <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> Dan 10.5, 6, where the two Angels begin <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> like visions. The Prince of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Kingdom of Persia withstood me one &amp; twenty days, but lo Michael one [or the first] of the chief Princes came to help me &amp; I remained there <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Kings of Persia. <pb xml:id="p025v" n="25v"/> – And <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">I became dumb, &amp;</add> one like <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> similitude of the sons of men touched my lips. Then I opened my mouth &amp; spake – There remained no strength in me neither is there breath left in me. Then there came again one like <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> appearance of a man &amp; he <choice><sic>&amp; he</sic><corr type="noText"/></choice> strengthened me — Then said he Knowest thou wherefore I come unto thee? And now I will return to fight with the Prince of Persia. And when I am gone forth lo the Prince of Grece shall come. But I will shew that <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> is noted in <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> scripture of truth, &amp; there is none that holdeth with me in these things but Michael <choice><abbr>yo<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>your</expan></choice> Prince. Also I in <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> first year of Darius <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Mede even I stood to confirm &amp; to strengthen him. — And at that time shall Michael stand up <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> great Prince <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> <app type="authorial"><rdg place="inline">standeth for</rdg> <rdg place="supralinear">is set over</rdg></app>  <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> children of thy People. Dan 10, 11, 12. Michael <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Archangel. Iude 9. Michael &amp; his Angels Apoc. 12.7. Gabriel make this man understand <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> vision. Dan 8.16. And <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> man Gabriel whom I had seen in <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">vision at the</add> beginning be caused to fly swiftly, touched me Dan 9.21. And <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Angel said unto him, I am Gabriel <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> stand in <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> presence of God, &amp; am sent &amp;c Luc 1.19. And in <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> sixt month the Angel Gabriel was sent from God - vers 26.</p>
<p xml:id="par215">Cornelius saw an <hi rend="underline">Angel</hi> of God coming to him &amp; saying unto him Cornelius – Send men to Ioppa &amp; call for one Simon whose sirname is Peter. – While Peter thought on <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> vision (viz of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> sheet let down) the <hi rend="underline">spirit</hi> said unto him: Behold three men seek thee Arise therefore &amp; get the down &amp; go <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> them doubting nothing: ffor I have sent them. <p xml:id="par216">And the <hi rend="underline">Angel</hi> of the Lord spake unto Philip saying Arise &amp; go towards <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> south &amp;c. And he arose &amp; went. – Then <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> <hi rend="underline">spirit</hi> said unto Philip Go near &amp; joyn thy self to this chariot — And when they were come up out of the water the <hi rend="underline">spirit</hi> of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Lord caught away Philip &amp;c Act 8.26, 29, 39.</p>
<p xml:id="par217">And it shall come to pass as soon as I am gone from thee that <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> spirit of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Lord shall carry thee whether I know not. 1 King. 18.12.</p>
<p xml:id="par218">Let fifty men go seek thy Master lest peradventure the spirit of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Lord hath taken him up &amp; cast him upon some mountain or into some valley. 2 King. 2.16.</p>
<p xml:id="par219">And he said, Son of man stand upon thy feet &amp; I will speak unto thee, &amp; the spirit entred into me when he spake unto me &amp; set me upon my feet. – So the spirit lifted me up &amp; took me away — <del type="cancelled">And he put for</del> I beheld &amp; lo a likeness as the appearance of fire: from <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> appearance of his loynes even downward fire &amp; from his loynes even upward as <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> appearance of brightness as the colour of Amber. And he put forth <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> form of an hand &amp; took me by a lock of mine head &amp; the spirit lift me up between <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> earth &amp; heaven &amp; brought me in <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> visions of God to Ierusalem. Ezek. 2.1, 2 &amp; 3.14 &amp; 8.2, 3. &amp; 11.1, 24.</p>
<p xml:id="par220">I saw the Lord standing upon <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Altar &amp; he said Smite the Lintel of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> door &amp;c Amos 9.1.</p>
<p xml:id="par221">He said, I may not return <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> thee, – for it was said to me by the word of the Lord Thou shalt eat no bread nor drink water there nor turn again to go by the way that thou camest. And he said unto him, I am a Prophet also as thou art &amp; an angel spake unto me by the word of the Lord saying, Bring him back with thee into thine house that he may eat bread &amp; drink water. <p xml:id="par222">Ahaziah was sick &amp; he sent messengers &amp; said unto them go &amp; enquire of Baal-zebub <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> God of Ekron whether I shall recover of this disease. But <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Angel of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Lord said to Elijah <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Tishbite, Arise, Go up to meet <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> messengers of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> King of Samaria &amp;c 2 King 1.2, 3. – And he sent again a capitain of the third fifty with his fifty And <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> third Captain of fifty went up &amp; fell <del type="cancelled">up</del>on his knees before Elijah — And <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Angel of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Lord said unto Elijah, Go down with him, be not afraid of him. &amp;c. 2 King 1.13, 14, 15. Curs ye Meroz saith <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Angel of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Lord. Iud. 5.23.</p>
<p xml:id="par223">The Angel who <choice type="oldCorr"><sic>speak</sic><corr>spake</corr></choice> to Zechariah chap. 1.2, 3, 4, 5 is called the Angel of Iehova chap 3.1. &amp; Iehova vers 2. To which place some (as Iunius in Parallelorum Appendice) think <choice><abbr>S<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Saint</expan></choice> Iude refers where he says that Michael <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Archangel said to Sathan, The Lord rebuke thee Sathan; interpreting <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Angel &amp; Michael of Christ. In Zech. 1. 7 its said <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> word of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>L<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Lord</expan></choice> came to Zechariah. And this word is a vision of a man on a red hors <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">among mirtle trees</add> <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> others on horses behind him, of <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> he said These are they whome the Lord hath sent to walk to &amp; fro<del type="cancelled"><gap reason="illgblDel" extent="1" unit="chars"/></del> through <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> earth. And they answered <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Angel of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Lord that stood among <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> mirtle trees We have walked to &amp; fro through <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> earth &amp;c. These therefore are <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> seven spirits of God (Zech 3.9 &amp; 4.10. Apoc. 1.4, &amp; 3.1, &amp; 4.5 &amp; 5.6. Tobit 12.15.) And the Angel of God <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> (as a note of precedency) stood before them &amp; talked <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> Zechariah is <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Son of God.</p>
<p xml:id="par224">In the first six <choice><sic>chapter</sic><corr>chapters</corr></choice> of Zechary the Spirit by <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> he prophesied is called an Angel.</p>
<p xml:id="par225">In 2 Ezdras 7.60 The Archangel Vriel (so called 2 Esdr. 4.36) saith: They beleived not him [Moses] <del type="cancelled"><gap reason="illgblDel" extent="2" unit="chars"/></del> nor yet <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Prophets after him, no nor me <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> have spoken unto them. Also by this Archangel are all <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Prophesies &amp; visions <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">in <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> 2<hi rend="superscript">d</hi> b. of Esdras</add> represented to be given &amp; made.</p>

<p xml:id="par227">And Abraham said unto his Servant – The Lord god of heaven – shall send his Angel befor the, &amp; thou shalt take a wife unto my Son from thence. Gen 24.7, 40.</p>
<p xml:id="par228">And Israel blessed Ioseph &amp; said, God before whom my fathers Abraham &amp; Isaac did walk, the God <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> fed me al my life long unto this day, the <hi rend="underline">Angel</hi> <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> redeemed me from all evil, bless the <choice type="oldCorr"><sic>ladds</sic><corr>lads</corr></choice>. Gen: 48.15, 16.</p>
<p xml:id="par229">And the <hi rend="underline">Angel</hi> of God <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> went before the camp of Israel removed and went behind them, &amp; the pillar of the cloud went from before their face &amp; stood behind them. <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">Exod 14.19</add> Compare <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> vers 24. And the <hi rend="underline">Lord</hi> looked unto <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> host of the Egyptians through <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Pillar of fire <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">&amp; of the cloud</add>. And <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">with</add> Exod 13.21. And <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> <hi rend="underline">Lord</hi> went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud – &amp; by night in a pillar of fire.</p>
<p xml:id="par230">Mine Angel shall go before thee &amp; bring thee in unto <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Amorite &amp; <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Hittite &amp;c Exod 23.20, 23. &amp; 32.34.</p>
<p xml:id="par231">I will send an Angel before the &amp; will drive out <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Canaanite <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Amorite &amp;c —– for I will not go up in <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> midst of thee, for thou art a stiffnecked people Exod 33.2, 3.</p>
<p xml:id="par232">This is he (Moses) that was in the church in the wilderness with the <hi rend="underline">Angel</hi> <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> spake to him in Mount Sina, &amp; with <choice><abbr>o<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>our</expan></choice> Fathers. Acts 7.38.</p>
<p xml:id="par233">Then said Daniel unto the King, <del type="strikethrough">m</del>— my God hath sent his Angel, &amp; hath shut the Lyons mouths that they have not hurt me. Dan 6.22.</p>
<p xml:id="par234">And I heard a mans voyce between the banks of Vlai, <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> called &amp; said, <del type="strikethrough">Daniel</del>, Gabriel, make this man understand the Vision. Dan 8.16.</p>
<p xml:id="par235">Whilst I was speaking in prayer – <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> man Gabriel whom I had seen in the vision at <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> beginning, touched me &amp; said — at the beginning of thy supplications the commandment came forth, &amp; I am come to shew thee &amp;c. Dan 9.21, 23.</p>
<p xml:id="par236">Behold a certain man clothed in linnen whose loynes were girt with fine gold of Vphaz, his body also was like <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Beryl, &amp; his face as <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> appearance of lightning, &amp; his eyes as lamps of fire, &amp; his arms &amp; his feet like in colour to polished brass, &amp; <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> voyce of his words like <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> voyce of a multitude. — And he said unto me, O Daniel — unto the am I now sent – for from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand and to chasten thy selfe before thy God, thy words were heard, &amp; I am come for thy words. But the Prince (i.e. Angel) of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one &amp; twenty days: but lo Michael one of the chief Princes came to help me, &amp; I remained there with the kings of Persia. Now am I come to make thee understand w<hi rend="superscript">t</hi> shall befall thy People in <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> latter days. Dan 10.5, 6, 11, 12, 13. — And at that time (i.e. the latter end) shall Michael stand up, the great Prince <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> standeth for <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> children of thy people. Dan 12.1.</p>
<p xml:id="par237">The revelation of Iesus Christ, <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> God gave unto him to shew unto his servants — &amp; he sent &amp; signified it by his <hi rend="underline">Angel</hi> unto his servant Iohn. Rev 1.1. In the midst of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> 7 candlesticks I saw one like <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> son of man clothed <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> a garment down to <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> foot, &amp; girt about <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> paps <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> a golden girdle. His head &amp; his hairs were like wool, as white as snow &amp; his eyes were as a flame of fire, &amp; his feet like unto fine brass as if they burned in a furnace, &amp; his voyce as <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> sound of many waters. Rev 1.13 see Dan 10.5, 6</p>
<p xml:id="par238">And I fell at his (the Angels) feet to worship him. And he said unto me see thou do it not. I am thy fellow servant, &amp; of thy brethren that have <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> testimony of Iesus: Worship God: for <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> testimony of Iesus is the spirit of prophesy. Rev 19.10. / I Iohn fell down to worship before <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> feet of the <hi rend="underline">Angel</hi> <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> shewed me these things. Then said he to me see thou do it not for I am thy fellow servant <add place="supralinear" indicator="no">&amp;</add> of thy brethren &amp;c. Rev 22.8.</p>
<p xml:id="par239">I Iesus have sent mine <hi rend="underline">Angel</hi> to testify unto you these things in the Churches. I am the root &amp; ofspring of David &amp;c. Rev 22.16.</p>
<p xml:id="par240"><choice><sic>And</sic><corr>An</corr></choice> <hi rend="underline">Angel</hi> of the Lord came up from Gilgal to Bochim, and said, I made you to go up out of Egypt &amp; have brought you unto the land which I sware unto <choice><abbr>yo<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>your</expan></choice> fathers. And I said I will never break my covenant <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> you. &amp;c. Iudges 2.1, 2, 4.</p>
<p xml:id="par241"><del type="cancelled">The Israelites Idolatrous</del> <choice type="oldCorr"><sic>And</sic><corr>An</corr></choice> Angel of the Lord appeared unto Gideon. And when Gideon perceived that he was an Angel of the Lord, he said, Alas <pb xml:id="p027v" n="27v"/> O Lord God, for becaus I have seen an Angel of the Lord face to face. And the Lord said unto him thou shalt not dye. Iudges 6.11, 21, 22, 23.</p>
<p xml:id="par242">An Angel of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Lord appeared unto the wife of Manoah — And she told her husband saying, A man of God came unto me &amp; his countenance was like the countenance of an Angel of God very terrible. — And the angel said to Manoah, though thou detain me I will not eat of thy bread, and if thou wilt offer a burnt offering thou must offer it to <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Lord. – And <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Angel ascended in the flame. Then Manoah knew that he was an Angel &amp; said – we shall dy becaus we have seen God. Iudges 13.3, 6, 9, 16, 22. See Exod 33.20, where God sayeth, no man shall see his face &amp; live.</p>
<p xml:id="par243">Behold I send an <hi rend="underline">Angel</hi> before thee to keep thee in the way &amp; to bring thee into <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> place <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> I have prepared; beware of him &amp; obey his voyce, <choice><sic>proke</sic><corr>provoke</corr></choice> him not for he will not pardon your transgressions: for my name is in him Exod 23.20, 21.</p>
<p xml:id="par244">And <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> <hi rend="underline">Angel</hi> of the Lord said unto Hagar, I will multiply thy seed Gen 16.10, 11</p>
<p xml:id="par245">And the <hi rend="underline">Lord</hi> appeared unto Abraham – and he lift up his eyes &amp; lo three men stood by him — &amp; he (one of them) said I will certainly return unto thee according to the time of life, &amp; Sarah thy wife shall have a Son. And Sarah laughed within her self, &amp; the Lord said unto Abraham wherefore did Sarah laugh, is any thing too hard for <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Lord? At the time appointed I will return unto thee — And the man rose up from thence &amp; looked toward Sodom. And Abraham went with them to bring them on the way. And the Lord said becaus the sin of Sodom is grievous, I will go down &amp; see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> is come unto me. And the men turned their faces from thence &amp; went toward Sodom, but Abraham stood yet before the Lord. — And the Lord (after he had communed with Abraham) went his way &amp; Abraham returned to his place. And there came two Angels to Sodom — and they said to Lot, we will destroy this place because the cry of them is waxen great before the face of the Lord, &amp; the Lord hath sent us to destroy it. Gen 18.1 to 32. &amp; Gen 19.1, 13.</p>
<p xml:id="par246">And the Angel of God called to Hagar out of Heaven &amp; said arise lift up the Lad for I will make of him a great nation. Gen 21.17.</p>
<p xml:id="par247">And the <hi rend="underline">Angel</hi> of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Lord called unto Abraham out of heaven &amp; said, lay not thy hand upon the lad, for now I know that thou fearest <hi rend="underline">God</hi> seeing thou hast not withheld thine onely son from <hi rend="underline">me</hi>. Gen. 22.12.</p>
<p xml:id="par248">And the Ass saw the Angel of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Lord &amp;c. Numb. 22.22. &amp;c</p>
<p xml:id="par249">The Angel of the Lord appeared to Ioseph in a dream. Math 1.20. &amp; 2.13, 19.</p>
<p xml:id="par250">There Appeared unto Zacharias an Angel of the Lord standing on the right side of the Altar. —— &amp; said unto him I am Gabriel that stand in the presence of God, &amp; am sent to speak unto thee &amp; to shew thee these glad tidings. – And in <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> sixt month the Angel Gabriel was sent from God to a Virgin espoused to Ioseph &amp;c. Luke 1.11, 26.</p>
<p xml:id="par251">The Angel of the Lord came upon the shepherds, &amp; the glory of the Lord shone round about them — And suddenly there was with the Angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God &amp; saying, Glory be to God on high — And as <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Angels were gone away from them into heaven &amp;c – Luke. 2.9.</p>
<p xml:id="par252">He shall give his Angels charge over thee to keep thee in all thy ways that they bear thee up in their hands least thou dash thy foot against a stone. Psalm 91.11. Math 4.6. Luke 4.10.</p>
<p xml:id="par253">Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, &amp; he shall presently give me more then twelve legions of <hi rend="underline">Angels</hi>. Matth 26.53.</p>
<p xml:id="par254">And there appeared an Angel unto him (Christ) from heaven, strengthening him Luke 22.43.</p>
<p xml:id="par255">The Angel of the Lord descended from heaven &amp; came &amp; rolled back the stone from the door &amp; sat upon it &amp; his countenance was like lightning, &amp; his rayment white as snow. Matth 28.2. Mark 16.5.</p>
<p xml:id="par256">Mary, as shee stooped down &amp; looked into the Sepulchre seeth two Angels in white sitting the one at the head, &amp; the other at the feet where the body of Iesus had layn Iohn 20.12. Luke 24.4.</p>

<p xml:id="par258">Do ye not know <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> we shall judg Angels? 1 Cor. 6.3.</p>
<p xml:id="par259">For if God spared not the Angels that sinned but cast them down to Hell &amp; delivered them into chains of darkness to be reserved unto judgment, &amp;c 2 Peter 2.4</p>
<p xml:id="par260">The Angels <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> kept not their first estate but left their own habitation he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> judgment of the great day. Iude 6.</p>
<p xml:id="par261">The reapers are <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Angels Matth 13.29. The son of man shal send forth his Angels &amp; they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend – &amp; cast them into a furnace of fire. Mat 13.41. i.e. in <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> end of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> world. vers 49. He shal send his Angels with a great sound of a Trumpet &amp; they shal gather together his elect from <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> four winds. Mat 24.31, 40. 1 Thes 4.17.</p>
<p xml:id="par262">Michael <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Archangel when contending with <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Devil he disputed about <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> body of Moses, <choice><sic>dust</sic><corr>durst</corr></choice> not bring against him a railing accusation but said, <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Lord rebuke thee. Iude 9.</p>
<p xml:id="par263">In the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage but are as <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> angels of God in Heaven Mat 22.30. Mark 12.25. Neither can they die any more, for they are equal unto the Angels Luke 20.36.</p>
<p xml:id="par264">When <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> son of man shall come in his glory &amp; all the holy angels with him Matth 25.3.</p>
<p xml:id="par265">But of that day &amp; hower knoweth no man, no not the Angels in heaven Matth Mat 24.36.</p>
<p xml:id="par266">The angel of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Lord by night opened the Prison doors. Acts 5.19.</p>
<p xml:id="par267">The angel of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Lord came upon Peter &amp; a light shined in the Prison &amp; he smote Peter on the side, saying arise up quickly &amp; his chains fell off from his hands. And <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Angel said gird thy self &amp; bind on thy sandalls — &amp; follow me. And when they were past the first &amp; second ward they came unto <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Iron gate that leadeth unto <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> city, <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> opened to them of his own accord, &amp; they went out &amp; passed through one street &amp; forthwith <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Angel departed from him. And when Peter was come to himself he said. Now I know of a surety the Lord hath sent his Angel &amp; hath delivered me – And he came to <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> house of Mary — &amp; knocked at <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> door. And a damsel came to hearken &amp; when she knew Peters voyce she opened not for gladness but ran in &amp; told how Peter stood before <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> gate. And they said thou art mad. But she constantly affirmed it was so. Then they said. It is his <hi rend="underline">Angel</hi>. Acts 12.7</p>
<p xml:id="par268">Hee took not on him the nature of <hi rend="underline">Angels</hi>, but he took on him the seed of Abraham. Hebr. 2.16.</p>
<p xml:id="par269">Vnto <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Angels he hath not put in subjection the world to come, whereof we speak. Heb 2.5</p>
<p xml:id="par270">Thou madest man a little lower then <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Angels. Heb 2.7. — Iesus who was made a little lower then <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Angels. Heb 2.9.</p>
<p xml:id="par271">Take heed <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> ye despise not one of these little ones, for I say unto you that in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes"><choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> is in heaven</add> Matth 18.10</p>
<p xml:id="par272">Vnto <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Angels said he at any time: Sit on my right hand untill I make thine enemies thy foot stool, Are they not all ministring spirits sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation. Hebr 1.13.</p>
<p xml:id="par273">Angels are called Gods. Psal. 97:7, Worship him all ye Gods. Psal 8.5 Thou hast made him (man) a little lower then <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Angels. (Heb then [Elohim] the Gods).</p>

<p xml:id="par275">All things work together for good to them <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> love God, to them who are <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">the</add> called according to his purpose. For whom he did foreknow he also did predestinate to be conformed to <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Image of his son, that he might be <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> first born among many brethren. Moreover whom he did predestinate, them also he called; &amp; whom he called them he also justified: &amp; whom he justified them he also glorified. Rom. 8.28.</p>
<p xml:id="par276">The children not being yet born, neither having done any good or evil, that <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> purpose of God according to election might stand not of works but of him that calleth, it was said unto her <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> elder shall serve <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> younger. And that he might make known <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> riches of his glory on <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> vessels of mercy which he had afore prepared unto glory; even us whom he hath called not of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Iews onely but also of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Gentiles. Rom 9.11.</p>
<p xml:id="par277">Blessed be <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> God &amp; Father of <choice><abbr>o<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>our</expan></choice> Lord Iesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spirituall blessings in heavenly places in christ; according as he hath chosen us in him before <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> foundation of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> world that we should be holy &amp; without blame before him in love: having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Iesus Christ to himself, according to <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> good pleasure of his will – In Christ we have obteined an inheritance, being predestinated according to <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> purpose of him who worketh all things after <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> counsel of his own will. Ephes 1.3, 11.</p>
<p xml:id="par278">Vnto me is this grace given – that I should – make all men see what is <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> fellowship of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> mystery, <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> from <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> beginning of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> world hath been hid in God who created all things by Iesus Christ: To <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> intent that now unto <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Principalities &amp; powers in heavenly places might be known by <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Church <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> manifold wisdom of God, according to <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> eternal purpose <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> he purposed in Christ Iesus <choice><abbr>o<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>our</expan></choice> Lord. Eph 3.9.</p>
<p xml:id="par279">When it pleased God who separated me from my Mothers womb &amp; called me by his grace to reveale his son in me <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> I might preach him among <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> heathen, immediately I conferred not with flesh &amp; blood, neither went I up to Ierusalem &amp;c Gal 1.15.</p>
