Saviour, <add indicator="no" place="inline">p. 90,</add> hath these words</p>
<p xml:id="par2">And that he was not <choice><sic>not</sic><corr type="noText"/></choice> only with God before he assumed <lb xml:id="l2"/>humane nature but also was really God S<hi rend="superscript">t</hi> Paul tells us: <hi rend="underline">Let this <lb xml:id="l3"/>mind be in you <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> was also in Christ Iesus who being in the form <lb xml:id="l4"/>of God <foreign xml:lang="gre">ὀυχ᾽ ἁρπαγμὸν ἡγήσατο</foreign>, did not arrogate to himself to be <lb xml:id="l5"/>equal with God</hi>, that is, he made no ostentation of his Divinity. <lb xml:id="l6"/>For this I take to be <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> true meaning of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> phrase, both because <lb xml:id="l7"/>it is so used by Plutarch, &amp; because it makes <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> sense more <lb xml:id="l8"/>easy &amp; current, thus, who being in <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> form of God did not assume <lb xml:id="l9"/>an equality <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> God, that is he did not appear in <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> glory of his <lb xml:id="l10"/>Divinity <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> was hid under a veil of humane flesh &amp; infirmity <lb xml:id="l11"/>&amp;c.</p>

<addSpan spanTo="#addend002v-01" place="p002v" startDescription="f 2v" endDescription="f 2r" resp="#mjh"/><p rend="indent0" xml:id="par3">– Ian 13, &amp; therefore the ten horns were now to receive power as kings. <lb xml:id="l12"/><del type="strikethrough">The Dragon by</del> &amp; accordingly the<del type="cancelled"><unclear reason="del" cert="medium">ir</unclear></del> Empire began at this <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">very</add> time to break into <del type="cancelled">the</del> ten kingdoms <lb xml:id="l13"/><del type="strikethrough">The Drag</del> [And first the Dragon by giving the Beast his power &amp; throne became one of <lb xml:id="l14"/>his horns.  ffor the ten horns are kings <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> give their power &amp; strength to the Beast <lb xml:id="l15"/>(Apoc. 17.13.) &amp; power was given to the Beast over all kindreds &amp; tongues &amp; nations &amp; <lb xml:id="l16"/>all that dwelt upon the earth worshipped him whose names were not written in <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l17"/>book of life.  The same year] <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">For</add> the Visigoths under the conduct of Alaricus rose from their <lb xml:id="l18"/>seats in Thrace <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">presently after the death of Theodosius</add> &amp; made war upon the Empire, &amp; at length seated themselves in Gallia &amp; <lb xml:id="l19"/>Spain.  The same yeare the Hunns Alans &amp; Vandals rose up in arms &amp; began to make <lb xml:id="l20"/>war upon the Empire &amp; so did the Suevians the same year or soon after &amp; these nations <lb xml:id="l21"/>marching to the <del type="strikethrough">Rhene joyned</del> <choice><sic>the</sic><corr type="noText"/></choice> Burgundians upon the Rhene joyned them, <del type="cancelled">&amp;</del> passed the <lb xml:id="l22"/>Rhene at Ments, <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">invaded Gallia</add> put <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Salian Franks into commotion &amp; gave occasion to the revolt of <lb xml:id="l23"/>Britain &amp; after some wars seated them selves in various parts of ffrance &amp; Spain.  And <lb xml:id="l24"/><del type="cancelled">all</del> these <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">ten</add> kingdoms (one of the <del type="strikethrough">Greeks</del> <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes"><del type="strikethrough"><unclear reason="del" cert="low">west</unclear></del> western Empire <choice><sic><unclear cert="high" reason="hand">Their Emperors</unclear></sic><corr type="noText"/></choice></add> one of the Visigoths, <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">one of the Hunns <del type="cancelled"><gap reason="illgblDel" extent="2" unit="chars"/></del></add>, one of the Vandals, two of the Alans <lb xml:id="l25"/><add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">one of the Sweves</add> one of the Burgundians, one of the Franks, <add place="supralinear" indicator="no"><del type="strikethrough">&amp; two of the</del></add> <add place="inline" indicator="no">&amp;</add> <del type="cancelled"><gap reason="illgblDel" extent="1" unit="chars"/></del> one of the Britains) <del type="strikethrough">were formed within <lb xml:id="l26"/>the space of twelve or 13 years after the death of Theodosius</del> received power as kings most <lb xml:id="l27"/>of them upon the death of Theodosius &amp; the rest within the space of 12 or 13 years <lb xml:id="l28"/>after his death, the Empire breaking into these ten kingdoms by <del type="cancelled">a</del> <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">one</add> continued series of <lb xml:id="l29"/>war, as hath been explained above.  As the Leopard . . . . . her Beast.</p>
<p xml:id="par4">Yet considering that the ten horns are ten kings <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> <del type="strikethrough">give t</del> agree &amp; give their <lb xml:id="l30"/><del type="strikethrough">kingdom</del> <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">power &amp; strength</add> unto <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Beast &amp; that the Dragon gave the Beast his power &amp; throne &amp; great <lb xml:id="l31"/>authority &amp; that <del type="cancelled">the <gap reason="illgblDel" extent="2" unit="chars"/></del> power was given to the Beast over all kindreds &amp; tongues &amp; <lb xml:id="l32"/>nations &amp; all that dwelt upon the earth worshipped him whose names were not <lb xml:id="l33"/>written in the book of life: we may in some sense reccon that the Dragon when he <lb xml:id="l34"/>gave the beast his power &amp; throne became one of his horns.  And in this sense the western <lb xml:id="l35"/>Empire may be considered not as one of the horns but as the body of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Beast <lb xml:id="l36"/>to whom the ten kings give their power &amp; strength.  And where its said <del type="strikethrough">tha</del> <hi rend="underline">I saw <lb xml:id="l37"/>the Beast &amp; the kings of the earth &amp; their armies <del type="cancelled">&amp;c</del> gathered together</hi> &amp;c (Apoc <lb xml:id="l38"/>19.19) the Beast &amp; the kings of the earth may be taken for the body of the Beast &amp; <lb xml:id="l39"/>his horns.  But whether the kings of the earth are the horns of the Beast or the kings <lb xml:id="l40"/>of the east, <del type="cancelled">time will discover <gap reason="illgblDel" extent="3" unit="chars"/></del> or what is to be understood by them, time will dis<lb xml:id="l41"/>cover.  At present <del type="strikethrough">(that after</del> I observe that after it <del type="over">was</del><add place="over" indicator="no">is</add> said that the Dragon gave <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l42"/>Beast his throne &amp; power &amp; great authority &amp; that all <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> world wondred after the Beast it <lb xml:id="l43"/>is added in the next words that <hi rend="underline">they wor</hi><anchor xml:id="addend002v-01"/><hi rend="underline"><add place="supralinear" indicator="no">shipped</add> the Dragon which gave power unto the Beast, &amp; they worshipped the Beast <lb xml:id="l44"/>saying, Who is like <add place="inline" indicator="no">un</add>to the Beast? Who is able to make war with him?  And by these <lb xml:id="l45"/>words the Dragon &amp; Beast are still considered as two distinct <del type="strikethrough">dominions</del> bodies &amp; the <lb xml:id="l46"/>Greek Empire still continues to be the Dragon, &amp; the power of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> Beast is uni<lb type="hyphenated" xml:id="l47"/>versal <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">only</add> in respect of his worship.  After his resurrection from the dead, the <lb xml:id="l48"/>two-horned Beast became his Priest, conescrated him <del type="cancelled">&amp;</del> <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">in the east, by consecrati<choice><orig>ō</orig><reg>on</reg></choice></add> created all his power <lb xml:id="l49"/><del type="strikethrough">in the eas</del> as a God, &amp; caused the eastern nations to erect <del type="cancelled">&amp;</del> an image to him &amp; to <lb xml:id="l50"/>worship him &amp; his image &amp; wonder after him.</hi></p>

<p xml:id="par5">Vpon the ceasing of the line of Hunnimund the son of Hermaneric, the Ostrogoths li<lb xml:id="l51"/>ved without kings of their own nation about 40 years together, most of <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l52"/>timethey spent in Pannonia.  ‡<addSpan spanTo="#addend002r-01" place="p002r-lower" startDescription="lower down f 2r" endDescription="higher up f 2r" resp="#mjh"/> ‡ For they came over the Danube (according to Procopius<supplied reason="omitted">)</supplied> about <lb xml:id="l53"/>the same time that the Vandals &amp; Alans passed the Rhene &amp; the Visigoths invaded <lb xml:id="l54"/>italy <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">that is, about the year 407 or 408</add>.  And when Attila began to make war upon the Romans, <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> was in the year <lb xml:id="l55"/>444, he made Valamir with his brothers Theudemir &amp; Videmir <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">the grandsons of Winithar</add>, Captains or kings of <lb xml:id="l56"/>these Ostrogoths.  And in the 12<hi rend="superscript">th</hi> year of Valamir's reign dated from thence, the <lb xml:id="l57"/>Hunns were driven out of Pannonia <del type="strikethrough">by these Goths</del><anchor xml:id="addend002r-01"/> [When Attila began to make war upon the <lb xml:id="l58"/>Romans, <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> was in the year 444, he made Valamir with his brothers Capitains <lb xml:id="l59"/>or kings over them, &amp; [<del type="cancelled"><gap reason="illgblDel" extent="1" unit="chars"/></del> the <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">ejection of the Hunns in the</add> end of <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> year 455 was in the 12<hi rend="superscript">th</hi> year of his reign <lb xml:id="l60"/>dated from thence.] in the 12<hi rend="superscript">th</hi> year of his reign dated from thence, the Hunns were <lb xml:id="l61"/>driven out of Pannonia].</p></div>
