Catalogue Entry: MINT01701
A list of various Masters of the Mint from the reign of King Edward III to Henry VIII in whose indentures there is no mention made of the Warden having oversight in melting
Notes
[See Westfall, 754, who suggests these documents may have been collected by Newton as master in reference to a dispute about control over melting with Craven Peyton, warden from 1708-1714. No documentation relating to such a dispute now survives, but there is ample evidence that Newton and Peyton disagreed about almost everything.]
