Notes on the value of French pistoles
The value of French pistoles stated
Pistoles one wth another weigh 11.dwt 7 grains |as I find by weighing them| whereby if they were standard, a pistole would be worth 17s: 1d in our money. but they have been found by former Assays of old pistoles of a grain worse than standard; & ye new coynd pistoles upon Assaying are\prove found/ of a grain worse by wch last Assays pistoles are worth but 17s.
Double pistoles being less worn than single ones, are one wth another, about one grain heavier than two single ones; & so may be valued at 34:s 1d a piece. but ye number of ym is inconsiderable
There are some pistoles three or four grains lighter than ye rest, or more. wch are not worth more than s16: 11d. each
